Rakakas Greykarn writes an open letter to the communit:
Dear community friends, esports lovers & Starcraft-fans! An early morning the 15th January 2011 me, Hellspawn, Ponde and Iceman in Uppsala. After a sleepover at Pondes place we set the alarm clocks to way-to-early. It was time for GSL with Artosis and Tasteless. Everyone had a coffe cup in their hand and their eyes set on group D RO16 with oGsMC, MarineKing, Rainbow and star-player Jinro who made his big breakthrough the previous season where he reached was the first non-korean to reach the semi-final of a korean tournament.
Two hours later we're all going crazy, cheering JIIIIIINRO which probably woke the entire building. After the initial loss to MarineKing, Jinro had done the impossible and beaten the current GSL-champion MC twice - first on Lost temple and then on Scrap Station. He beat the player who just a few weeks earlier had humiliated him in a semi-final where the swede didn't stand a chance
Around this time I decided to become a dedicated Jinro-fan. A new swedish e-sports star was born as big as Lakerman or HeatoN. Perhaps even bigger. I don't know if it was all the coffee we drank that morning or if it was his nickname, "Gorilla Terran", that made me such a Jinro-fan. Maybe it was because he was such a dedicated forumposter on teamliquid with his 30 000 posts who now got the chance to live his dream in the promised land of e-sports. Maybe it was something else... but I'll never forget that morning.
With a burst of confidence Jinro surged forth to the semifinals. In the semis he once again had to play Marineking, and once again lost. But never before have two semifinal losses been so big. Jinro wrote swedish e-sports history. Jinro opened our eyes for a whole new e-sports world. The koreans aren't unbeatable. In Brood War this feat would've been impossible, but in Starcraft II the foreigners could match the korean superstars. Jinro became a fanfavorite not only in Sweden, but the entire online world was impressed by the Swedish Terran. This could be seen on Twitter - where he was a global "trending topic".
10th April 11:20 Jonathan "Jinro" Walsh lands at Arlanda airport. He will be arriving together with TeamLiquid-member HuK and the oGs-star MC. Jinro and the others are invited to play in the DreamHack Stockholm Invitational at Kulturhuset. This is the first time Jinro returns to Sweden after his success in Korea.
I've said it before but it was somewhere there in Uppsala that I decided: If Jinro returns to Sweden the swedish e-sportscommunity needs to stop what they are doing, go to Arlanda and welcome the swedish hero on his return home. He will probably want to see his friends and family after landing, but hopefully we will be able to give back atleast a little bit of the entertainment that he has given us this winter.
I encourage all e-sportsfans out there, book a bus, a train, take a cab or fill up the tank of your car. 11 o'clock on sunday (10/4) we will be at Ankomsthallen in Terminal 5 at Arlanda to salute our hero.
Bring cameras, signs or whatever you want. There will be a ton of Starcraft II talk, maybe a visit to McDonalds and the perfect hype up for the tournament on the 12th April. Because who wouldn't want a swedish champion at Kulturhuset?
So get ready and post in the comments below if you are coming!
Edit: ah beat me too it

Huk vs IdrA car wrestling, go!
That's probably why they're bringing some Jinro muscle :D

Rakaka's greykarn writes an open letter to the community:
Dear community members, esport lovers & StarCraft fans! During en early morning on the 15th of January 2011 Ponde, Hellspawn and I woke up in Uppsala. After spending the night in Ponde's appartment we had set the alarm clock to way-too-early. it was time for GSL with Artosis and Tasteless. With a cup of coffee in each person's hand and our sights set for Group D in the Ro16 with oGsMC, MKP, Rainb0w and the new success Jinro, who got his big break during the last season as the first non-korean to have reached the semi finals of a Korean StarCraft II tournament.
Two hours later we stand up and let out a collective scream, raise our arms towards the sky and howl an echoing "JIIIIIINRO" which should have been enought to wake up everyone in the building. After the intial loss to MKP, swedish Jinro had done the impossible and beaten the ruling GSL champion twice - first on Lost Temple and then on Scrap Station. He beat a player who just a few weeks earlier had humiliated him in a semi final series in which the swede didn't stand a chance.
It was somewhere around that time I decided to become a dedicated Jinro supporter. Sweden had gotten a new a e-sports star, in the same league as Lakerman and Heaton. If not bigger. I don't know if it was all the coffee we drank that morning, or if it was his nickname "Gorilla Terran" that made me join the church of Jinro. Maybe it was that he had previously been a devoted forum posted on Team Liquid with 30,000 posts in his bag, and now got to live is dream in the promised land of e-sports. Maybe it was something else, but it was a morning that won't soon be forgotten.
Reinforced with confidence Jinro once again steamed on towards a semi final. In the semi final he had to once more face off against MKP, which unfortunately resulted in another defeat. But never have two semi final losses been impactful. Jinro wrote hinmself into the swedish e-sports history. Jinro also opened the eyes of a whole e-sports world: the South-Koreans aren't unbeatable. In Brood War it would have been an impossible achievement, but in StarCraft II the westeners could finally stand toe to toe with the korean superstars. Jinro had become a fan favourite, not only in Sweden - a whole online world was impressed by the swedish Terran player. It could be seen, if not anywhere else, on twitter, where he was "trending" globally.
On the 10th of April, at 11:20, Jonatan "Jinro" Walsh will be arriving at Arlanda airport. He will be coming together with his TL team mate Huk, and the oGs superstar MC. Jinro is invited, just like the other two, to play in DreamHack's tournament "Stockholm Invitational" at Kulturhuset. It is the first time Jinro will be arriving in Sweden after the success in South Korea.
I've said is several times, but it was somewhere there in Uppsala that I made my mind up: if Jinro comes home to Sweden the swedish e-sport community has to band together, go to Arlanda and give our swedish e-sports hero a proper welcome home to Stockholm. He's probably looking forward to meeting his family and friends when he arrives, but hopefully we can at least give back some of the entertainment he blessed us with during the dark winter.
I therefore encourage all e-sport fans out there to do like I, Ponde and Hellspawn will. Book a bus, take the train, a cab or simply fill the car up with gas. Because at 11 am on Sunday (10/4) we will see eachother in the terminal 5 arrival hall at Arlanda to hail or superhero.
Bring cameras, signs or whatever. There will of course be a whole lot of StarCraft talk, maybe a visit to McDonalds and a perfect build-up to the event on the 12th of April. Because who wouldn't want a swedish victory at Kulturhuset?
Så kamma luggen nu och skriv i kommentarerna under om du dyker upp! Det vore om inte annat - kul att ses!
So comb your fringe hair right now and write a comment to let us know you'll be there. It would, if nothing else, be great to meet you!
|
I really wish that I could participate at Arlanda and greet Jinro Welcome home Jinro, hope you'll win the DH event!
|
If 500 people can watch the games @ kulturhuset live on a tuesday, there should atleast be 200 to meet and great at Arlanda on a sunday!

Välkommen hem, welcome home Jinro! And welcome Huk, Idra and MC to the heart of european esports, Sweden!
Good luck, Have fun!

I just realized that this is a chance for me to meet other SC2 players from Uppsala too as none of my friends here are gamers. Ill be there! (If I manage to get up in time).

Haha would be cool if there was a bunch of people there but I don't think it will happen.

He's looking forward to the enthusiastic welcome from Swedish fans. He just doesn't want to sit next to Idra in the car.
I heard Idra has huge respect for MC. Maybe MC can tell Idra to play nice.

Haha, LOL didn't realize thet he actually wouldn't like that. I thought you guys just was trolling hardcore :D
What the hell would IdrA do? Huk should just ignore him and unzip his hoodie to expose his "Hallu Voidrays" t-shirt (MAKE ONE WOULD HAVE BEEN EPIC) :D
...or he could just take a cab or whatever.
