He does smoke, if that's what your asking. I don't know how anyone could know for a fact why his voice is different unless they were his doctor or something, though.

Does anyone know if he's still smoking?
|
He mentioned in a GSL game not too long ago that people think its the smoking but its because he is a caster, and that changed his voice over time.
|
It's because he's smokingly handsome. Such levels of handsomeness has its strain on a body, even his.
|
He should ask Artosis if he could massage his vocal cord. Not sure how it would be done but god darn it it have to be possible!
|
During a GSL cast, Tasteless said it wasn't from smoking, but that it was from casting so much

He denied that it was smoking that changed his voice on the basis that he really doesn't smoke that much (paraphrasing here).
Alternative theory: lots and lots of partying

It has to be from casting. I know multiple smokers who have been smoking for much longer than him and have no change to their voice. The guy was SOLO casting for extremely long hours for Gom. Takes a toll on your voice. I like his current voice, makes him a gnarly bad ass. His old voice is more boyish.

shouting too much during gotmv casts? smoking/partying/aging, but it's still quite a change.
|
Two things. Holy crap he was young in that one. Second I wish he still had that voice. I like it SOOO much better than his current smokers voice. Only started watching GSL a lot this past months GSL season so I only knew him as the smoker voice up till now and seeing the you tube vid. Sad that smoking can destroy so much.

<3 the GSI, my first starcraft tournament!
Thanks for going and being our English SC caster, Nick!
I've watched him cast over the years and never noticed the difference, but going back now it's almost unrecognisable lol
|
From experience casting really wears out your voice though. After a series you'd feel quite terrible
|
Uh guys. Smoking doesn't change your voice in the course of a couple years. He's gotten that voice mainly from doing avid casting, a little bit from growing up, and the smallest portion is from smoking.

damn BW Tasteless is a whole lot better than SC2 Tasteless and I'm not talking about his voice
his knowledge and passion just seems to come through a whole lot more while watching him talk about BW players
|
I'd say it's a combination of all of the above (casting, smoking, aging, maybe other factors). Tasteless is the only caster I have ever seen that has this problem. Day 9 casts quite a bit as well and he seems to be fine, Artosis casts a lot and he is fine. Sports casters who have been doing it for decades are fine as well so i'm sure that isn't it.

yea it is just an over worked voice in my honest opinion if you lose your voice to many times, you can end up doing permanent damage
