well part of it too is having to do commentating does take it's toll on your voice. If you watched any of his live casting during the original GOM tournaments, by the end of some nights, he'd literally have no voice, and force out a very raspy voice and you could see him straining in pain as he'd do it because he can't just have a whispered commentary.

I think that more than the smoking or the aging or whatever that made his voice this way, but hey as long as he's comfortable with it, tasteless is tasteless, raspy voice or not!

Well since he does a lot of talking due to casting and he's done it for so many years, the only logical and medical explanation is that his throat/vocal muscles are so buff and in shape, that it increases the badass-ness (or badassity if you live in the UK) of the sound of his voice.

WOAH thats a pretty crazy difference.. I remember listening to him back then but since ive been a listener to him since GomTV's first events, I didnt notice how much his voice has changed..

The male voice doesn't finish developing until the age 25, sometimes later depending on the depth of the person's voice (the lower the voice usually the longer it takes to mature). So that's a huge factor.

On top of that though, if your job is shoutcasting for numerous hours every day, it is going to affect your voice unless you have a near obsessive mentality to attempt to keep it pristine. Drinking, smoking (I don't actually know if Nick smokes but everyone seems to think he does), and yelling are only going to further affect speaking range and quality.

During one of his casts THIS season, he talked about the small coke cans and how perfect they were, gave some commentary about obesity in america and excessively large drinks, and mentioned that he smokes regularly but he feels he's healthier than a 400 lb man.
