If blizzard can give away a few pixels to get people to play more, I think it's good overall for the game. I've been playing too much minecraft and not enough starcraft for the last couple weeks and I dropped down to #7, so I'll definitely be out there on the ladder this week, hopefully beating up some people who are at least as rusty as I am. | ||

I would disagree--a top 8 master's league icon is an indicator of considerable skill, and a top 16 grandmaster's league icon will be an indication of being a professional player of the highest caliber. For that matter, just being in the Grandmaster's league will be very prestigious; it's great to see Blizz finally implementing special in-game bonuses for the best players. | ||

There's only one Grandmaster's division, and would be extraordinarily surprised if random scrubs could get to the top 16 of it--especially in Korea. While I agree that master's top 8 is somewhat random--though, even in the easiest divisions, you have to be pretty good to get it--grandmaster's top 16 will not be. And if we're looking towards how much prestige the system awards, we should look towards its highest prizes--a special decoration for the region's top 16, 50, 100, and 200 players--not one of the prizes in the middle. And while ladder might not be the best indication of skill even at that level, it still is one--and some reward should be given for doing well on it. | ||

@Harry: It's only one week. Originally, we did plan on allowing you to have a full two weeks to play out your bonus pools, and ideally that's how long lock-out periods will be for seasons going forward. Season 1 ended up being about nine months, though, and in the hopes of simply not prolonging it any further, the lock was changed to one week. When we originally wrote this blog, we were still going forward with a two-week lock, which is why that information was originally reflected in the text. That was certainly our mistake, and we apologize for any confusion that may have been caused. | ||
