Hello guys ! So my name is Chris and Despite the fact that i am new in SC 2 i tried to combine it with my passion for Editing and VFX :> So after watching the last 3 seasons of GSL i decided to try and make my own NameTAg animation because i think the last one that they created was a bit... hm... <<simple>> . I may have a passion but i am still a beginner so dont go very hard on me ! Please tell me if you enjoyed what i created , and how i can improve the Animations ! Oh.. and if any show about Sc2 wants to use them .. MSG me !!
Those look pretty sick. Possibly make the animations a little bit faster? It seems to take a little long to get the name out. But I really like the protoss and zerg ones!
Cool, I love fuckin' around with editing and random graphics. These look pretty decent for the most part, but they're a little slow. The animation part needs to finish sooner.
Nice video. You look really passionate about this. I like the first animation the most because of the high definition look and the terran one the least. the smoke looks really cheesy.
This looks pretty nice. I'd try and integrate this in my program but my executable would be huge :O
Anyways, my theory is that they only pull out the big guns for the Finals to make it feel show-offy, and for the rest they don't use such demanding hardware systems. For example:

It's not necessary to look that elaborate during say, Code A RO32.
So Happy you all liked it :D When i showed them to you , they weren't actually playing , i was using quicktime and scrolling throught the video so that you could see more details. The animation is pretty fast when played back in real time (exactly the same time as what they use in gsl now) And i agree about the smoke thingie :>
It appears my opinion is very much the minority here but I didn't like any of these animations. I just felt like they were all a little cheesy and not very professional looking. I'm not sure exactly what's needed to fix them.
The omiracial and protoss are ready to ship, the terran and zerg ones look cheesy to me as others have put it but compared to the current gsl one yours win out by a landside though.
The zerg creep doesn't look like creep to me because the edges of it dont emulate the edges of the creep in game. the terran smoke didn't quite look like smoke to me, but i also didn't like the shape of the structure, did like the black/yellow danger bands though commonly found on terran buildings though they looked kinda bright and clean my want to grunge them bit more. hope this helps. :D
Thx for the feedback Anon ! I agree that the smoke in the Terran Animation doesn't look that natural , and it would probably look nicer if i removed it (i should never count on .. Mom : yeah the smoke looks nice , can i go back to cooking now? ) :D But the shape is something i thought looked really cool :> And as i said havent really ever played or watched zerg closely , so i will probably change the way the creep <<spreads>> to give it that *Gulp/Spitting* look that it has in game :D
should have elaborated more: my problem with the terran structure is that it looks like twice the size of the nameplates for the other races. because the nameplate blends in so well to background part it gives the illusion of just a big name plate or just a big background, it could just be me though.
on the creep though also pay attention to the edge shape, it looks like it branches kinda your looks like you air brushed away the perimeter.
Indeed , i <<Air brushed them>> and i am not really sure how to make such small branch detail... but i will search it up :D ! And for those who liked the Wallpaper :http://www.rdex.net/wallpapers4/animegirl_big_gun.jpg
The idea and passion is awesome. Also I do think its created well, I would have no clue how to even begin making them.
The theme's I only really liked the protoss one, the zerg felt too mechanic until the very end when the creep has spread and the terran doesnt fit at all, most likely because of the colors. But I think thats ok, theres a lot of fun in trying out different themes etc.
The main reason for posting would be to give some feedback and suggestions concerning the usage. An animation itself cannot be used by anyone so you would have to team up with someone who can create a program that allows you to use them as overlays. There are many ways you can go about doing this but as a standalone for example, purely meant for a flashy intro, I can see that being easy to distribute and allow many casters play around with or integrate into their casts.
Another point for its usability which is probably pretty big is that it needs to be able to accept custom names. If every name would require its own made animation it would not be usable. So either some empty box where the custom name can be layed on top of after the animation finishes, or idk what kind of flashy things you can do with that, but that's definitely something to take into account if you would like it to be usable by many people. And you also run into a space issue, either have to limit the amount of name, have the animation scale or create a normal and a streched animation that when the name goes over X character the program would use the stretched animation as the overlay, or something just trying to come up with ideas here
For that program I think another part would be the audio component, since for example a craftcup can have many different names it's not feasable to prerecord them but maybe something like the microsoft robovoice that reads a name that is typed could fit the purpose well. The one from GSL is quite wierd aswell.
Eitherway whichever way you are gonna take it I wish you best of luck in your endeavour. It seems really cool and there is no such tool yet I believe. I hope it will get used in the future, not only is it cool and flashy but it could also help steer casters away from repeating their same old introduction of the players instead of playing around with it more.
The Jinro-one in the beginning looked real nice, you just need to make it a bit faster, it seems like it was on slow-mo or something. Other than that, great work!
The animations looked really nice. I have nothing to add about those, I just have one thought of my own to add. It feels like the font colors and styles that you chose could very easily become really hard to read. If these were used by someone who had a low quality stream (or even the high quality GSL stream), they would become illegible.
For people using low quality streams (I am not one, but I heard they exist) contrast and simple shapes reign supreme since a legible simple animation will beat out a fancy blob of color on a regular basis.
That being said, SC2 is such a pretty game that everyone should be using high quality streams whenever they can.
The Protoss one and that one for all races look great. I dont realy like the Terran and Zerg one. But im not really creative so i cant give you any tips on how to improve. Still, keep up the good work. Im sure they´ll get used in the future.
Really nice actually all of them. Might be hard to get them featured in GSL or whatever but I think this is something smaller tournaments should look in to. Or even the Nasl or TSL just to help promote someone from the community. Keep up the great work.
The animations themselves are pretty damn cool, but I found your video a bit... long-winded. Start off just showing the things (that's what most people are here for), then go into the explanation of your thoughts behind them. I mean, all I did was skip around the video looking for the animations themselves.
