Why do so many people find it normal that blizzard replaces three horrible maps with three slightly less horrible maps. A billion dollar company like blizzard gets completely outskilled by amateur mapmakers, thats just pathetic.
Valor is a poor substitute for numbers.

I hate the natural on Slag Pits. A couple of times now protoss has gone zealot / sentry and just walked past my defenses and force fielded my ramp, and I'm really not sure how to stop it. It's just so far from any defensible position. Looks like I'm going to have to prioritize creep spread... but then there's the matter of the backdoor. Ugh. Close positions are such a nightmare.

What i guess blizzard is doing is mixing things up: in their minds, on some maps you have to play macro heavy, on some you have to be more 1base oriented, which leads to be a more "complete" player. Having said that, it sucks that even on "macro heavy maps" (or, maps with longer rush distances) the natural is so wide open, and that getting your 3rd expo is generally a nightmare.
It could have gone worse, but also far better imo.
ModeratorProtoss all-ins are like a wok. You can throw whatever you want in there and it will turn out alright.

Everyone complains for good reason. I just played one on of these in a ladder game, the gulch one that looks like blistering, except guess what? Blizzard must have thought blistering sands was such a great map, that instead of making one destructable rock entrance, they decided to give you two destructable rock entrances to your ramp, along with a ramp x4 the size of a normal ramp up.

SC1 maps didn't always need these gimmicks to be good maps, but they keep on adding destructable rocks to make SC2 be this gimmick/aggro/all-in type of game play...

I'm shouting like "GimmickGraaaaaaaaft" after I heard you saying this in your stream. Lol. "I like playing GimmickGraaaaaaaaaaft, it's so goooooood".

This is what really upsets me about it. Blizzard really had the chance to do something great here, and the community has been VERY vocal about what they want from maps recently(hence the GSL changes), and this is the best that Blizzard can come up with? I actually preferred the map pool prior to this update =\ but at best this is a very tiny improvement.

The community was starving for new maps, and in comes billionaire Blizzard to hand us a leaf of parsley that are these maps. Are things better? No, not really Blizzard =\ This isn't going to quell our hunger for new(READ, BETTER) maps in the slightest.

got all new maps but neo temple vetoed now .... i just can't/won't play such maps
Inputting special characters into chat should no longer cause the game to crash.

Well at least the 2v2 maps are awesome. The average game on the new 2v2 maps have been a lot more fun with longer macro games since it is a lot easier to help each other with less mobile army compositions. Defending a 3rd is a lot easier if you control the towers properly. I'm loving the 2v2 maps it's such an improvement..

As for 1v1, I hate Slag Pits with a passion and don't know why they would even compare it to metal. I guess it will just take time to learn how to defend the natural properly. Replace SP with Shakuras please. Backwater is interesting but I always feel uncomfortable on that map with all its "features". I like shattered temple as I had some good macro games, and maybe typhon peaks once I get more games on it since I have no clue how to sim city my natural yet.

Right, finally played some games, time to revise some opinions ><

Shattered Temple.. at least doesn't have a cliff I suppose. I always liked LT if it weren't for that however, so meh, not the worst they've done.

Backwater Gulch.. wait what, why did we remove Blistering Sands again? Now I have them rocks on both sides? Still, I kind of don't absolutely hate this one, at least some macroing is possible if you don't just die.

The other two make me sad however. Bigger maps and they manage to make even closer positions. And don't get me started on siege pushes.. Can't wait to run into Protoss on there either. Think these'll go on veto for a bit until either I or Blizzard figures something out (I suppose it'll turn out to have to be me ).

Also Slag Pits should come with 3d glasses.
Change to MY nostalgia? UNACCEPTABLE! Monkey paaaw!

Does anyone know if GOMtv made any decisions on this yet? They've been adding the bliz maps before, but i feel that their judgment on maps is superior to Blizzard and they might diss these maps.

Well, they can't introduce only macro-style maps without fixing macro-game balance first. Although the new LT and slag pits (any closer and i can shoot the enemy main from my natural) are pretty aweful, i find the rest of the maps not too bad. Backwater gulch actually tends to create relatively long games. Typhon peaks has too many narrow areas though in my opinion. I feel like with 3 sentries you can lock down half the map.

Yes, they are not really as good as the GSL maps, but they are certainly better than steppes of war.

Wait, the best map in the pool is "plain" and "boring"? SO MANY EPIC GAMES, the most epic games out of SC2 short history have been on that "plain" and "boring" map. Blizzard are you even following your own game's scene?

Clide Vs Lenoock
Nightend vs Morrow these are just 2 that come to mind... Even my sorry skill made for some epic games on shak.

And Slag Pits close spawn with that extra attack path blocked by the all-so-worshiped rocks that Blizz thinks they are "cool" and exiting"... Did you ever get tank pushed? Or pushed at all? Close spawns is one thing. Extra pathway that goes str8 into your natural? I have lost all faith in what once was the best game company in the world by FAR....

Well, there's nothing on the gomtv site as far as I know, so probably nobody knows about goms opinion towards the new blizzard maps.
But I doubt they will use them. Those maps are just NOT made for competitive gaming and a lot of the GSL players are against those maps for sure.

HOLY MAPS I got a surprise when searching for a game today 0_0.

Is it just me, or on Slag are there 4 destructible rocks that lead to nowhere? If so that's an awesome self depreciating joke by Blizzard.

As for people bitching, (e.g. 'how to beat 4gate on map x, so bad') give it time, god. Although, yes, Slag Pits must be the smallest 4 person map ever. My first thought was '...can I actually reach his main hatchery with tanks from the low ground? I think I can.'
