I haven't played too many matches on it yet, but I feel like spawning close positions on Slag Pits (this is close by ground) is just a joke. With a very large area to defend, expanding even closer to your opponent is extremely hard. Across map though, I really like this map so far. I think they should put in the same thing they had on Shakuras, where players could only spawn on opposite sides of the map.
If the quarter was in your right hand, that would've been micro

Dont like any of the new maps except the fixed Temple. They all have ridiculous chokes and stupid positional imbalances - its like, if you want to encourage straight up terran play, 1 rax CC absolutely HAS to be viable for the map to have a healthy variety in openings... Xelnaga is the only map defying this rule I can think of.

And 1 rax CC is only viable if you can 3 rax wall your nat or baneling bust gets you every time.

Removing Shakuras might be the single most mindboggling decision ever made in this games history.

i miss shakuras =/. Blizzard doesnt realise that a "boring" map might appeal to a competitive community, trying to improve. Interesting things are good and fun, but if you want your macro going...

After chilling for about two months of WoW, watching a lot of GSL, day9 dailies and a lot of other tournaments I decided to come back to praciticing sc2. Changed my hotkeys yesterday, downvoted maps I hate and was ready to rock the ladder today. Suddenly, I am thrown into some Brackwater thingy and couldnt find myself on that map, lost to some BO failure but anyway after playing only vs comp I didn't expect much. Ok then, actually I thought "Yay new maps are on!" and then well, I see no Shakuras, dissapointing. Now meh, looks like with relearning game skill, I need to learn new maps as well. Are this maps going to stay in ladder pool now?

•The choke point by the natural expansions were too small; it was possible to block them off easily using only a few buildings.

THAT IS NOT A BAD THING.

God, I cant take this.

Yeah, dunno what blizzard is thinking, I thought they were supposedly taking advice from progamers about maps....but it doesn't really seem like they're paying attention to these things.

lol, the genius map designers at blizzard would rather games be 10 minute slug fests.

It's so obscenely strange, GSL puts all these awesome macro maps in their pool and what do we get? Long, exciting games where 1 or 2 base all-ins are usually just not possible. Reaction from fans (and Tastosis)? Love it. Really provides entertaining games.

Blizzards reaction to all this? Let's take out one of if not the best map in our ladder pool (that has had some of the most epic games in GSL history mind you) and put in a bunch of maps that greatly encourage 1 base play. Good luck securing an expansion without a migraine in most of them.

Definitely the worst thing to happen to this game yet.

Nah man, people hate maps now because they are terribly designed.

Temple is decent, haven't played enough on it to really comment on how much the wider natural choke is going to affect it, but at least you can simcity your natural from your ramp. Unlike most of these maps.

I just played a few matches, I'm not sure if I should make a decision yet. My first impressions are pretty negative though...
1.The maps have lots of weird geometry, making proxies even easier to hide. The advanced proxy gateway is extremely effective on alot of the new maps because there are so many places to hide the gateways. I've done it to 3 players today, telling them beforehand, that i would do some sort of proxy. All of them were unable to find the gateways. (These matches were played from the new maps). This could be simply because people don't quiet understand the maps yet, but I've been seeing a huge rush of cheese strategies in today's matches.
2. Close positions on slag pit is stupid...plain and simple. It's worst than steppes of war.
3. Shakuras Plateau was a cool map. I don't care if it was ''boring'', atleast it had aspects to it that made it very balanced and promoted long macro games.
4. Shattered Temple is nice, it'll take some time getting used to though.
5.I still prefer x'el naga caverns/metalopolis (non-close positions atleast)/delta quadrant over the new maps...

I don't know if I trust Blizzard with this game. As a Random player, these maps are just damn confusing and strange. I mean, really, aren't you supposed to have the ability wall off with a "few" buildings(3+)? I have no idea what to make of this. I'll give them a shot, but I don't know if I have the faith going forward.

It's kind of interesting to see which GSL "user made" map they'll be adding in the next few weeks. Crossfire SE is the most obvious candidate, but not sure if that counts as an user made map as it's just a modified version.

Just quoting this again as there hasn't been much reaction

Blizzard says the company plans to add "a couple more new maps to the official ladder rotation in the coming weeks, including a user-made 1v1 map that is currently being featured in the Global StarCraft League (GSL)."

Typhon peak feels like a narrow and more chokes' version of shakuras. if it does go to late game, it could be awesome.

Though im kinda bugged that they said 'shakuras plateau is a plain macro map and we find it uninteresting'. WHAT? Seriously, have these guys seen GSL? Epic games ALWAYS happens on shakuras

The positional imbalances are the worst - I mean, I could pretty much live with each and every stupidly designed map if it was at least EQUALLY stupid on each position.

I think they removed Shakuras, because bronze players couldn't find their opponent. Blizzard wants every matchup to be PvP. You 4gate and if it doesn't work, you go plan B.

Blistering: We wanted to reduce the number of rush maps in general, and Blistering Sands was one of them.

except you kept in Delta Quadrant. fuck you Blizzard.

Jungle Basin has a few traits that make it extremely favorable for Terran, so we decided to remove it from the ladder.

except you kept in Delta Quadrant. fuck you Blizzard.

Again, we wanted to reduce the number of rush maps, and Steppes was the most rush-friendly rush map we decided to cut.

guess the only reason why they chose to keep in Delta Quadrant was because it was 4 player instead of 2 player.

Lost Temple: If one side controls one of the center watch towers, there's no alternate ground-based route to half of the map, meaning it's too easy for the game to become a stalemate with each side taking half of the map.

god forbid splitting up the map results in a bad game to be played

Shakuras: For a change, we wanted to replace this relatively plain map with something new.

fuck you Blizzard

Backwater: Early game play on this map should feel familiar and there probably aren't too many early game threats or difficulties in terms of gimmicky strategies you need to worry about.

I'm getting trolled by Blizzard because breakable rocks to attack nat or get into main obviously isn't gimmicky.

Slag: Metalopolis was one of two favorite maps across the different skill levels of players. We decided to introduce a very similar map, but slightly more macro heavy.

still getting trolled by Blizzard

Question: are the map changes part of the PTR 1.3, aka open to discussion so that they might undo some of the changes or is it a distinct change that is definite?
Always smile~
