Master Toss. Wow, it's SO EASY to secure 4 bases and turtle like a bitch on shattered temple >_> good luck stopping the Protoss deathball Zergies. I like the new choke to the natural.
Slag Pits looks dumb as hell if you aren't Zerg, I'm probably just gonna 2base all-in every Zerg opponent on this map.
Striking Backwater Gulch, need more practice on this map.
Typhon Peaks will definitely favour the mobility of an army more than anything else. At least on this map, additional expansions are placed in modest locations. Need more practice on the different spawn locations first.

Initial reaction when playing the maps.
Zerg: 'Is it big enough for me to macro safely? Are there spaces for me to engage properly? are there multiple paths of attack to the enemy base'
Terran: 'Can I do effective drops? Can I bunker rush? Can I cover this in turrets?'
Protoss: 'Fuck the map I'll just 4-gate'

No freaking way... "4)Shakuras Plateau
This map we decided to remove for a different reason. There isn't a huge problem with this map, but we felt there aren't enough interesting features of this map. The natural expansion is easy to take and defend; there are only two possible attack paths only one of which is generally used, and main bases aren't easy to harass. For a change, we wanted to replace this relatively plain map with something new.``

The best games i ever saw on non-GSL maps were on Shakuras and they remove it...its really like Blizzard dont want maps were u can secure a fast 3rd w/o rocks. Seeing them remove Shakuras i have not much hope in them adding one of the bigger GSL maps. Oh and Slag Pits is aweful.

I recall Jinro talking about how Metalopolis is a poor map because close positions, it's an insta-win against zerg, and cross positions it's almost an insta-lose against zerg.
These maps generally have similar positional issues. It's like Blizzard goes "hey, race winrates are where they need to be, so lets go forward with these maps" without taking into account why race winrates are even. If they are even because positional imbalances...well, balance themselves out, that's terrible map design.

Good one

Who the fuck designed this piece of shit map.
PvZ, zerg can make nothing but zerglings and run circles around you. Good luck trying to hold an expansion. Same way they do it on xel naga caverns
That's not true. The trouble with these maps is the ramp is away from the natural [joke of a] choke, which means you can only wall off one of them. With xel naga you can wall off the natural with the Command Center and ramp or the two front chokes. With the new maps you need about 10 barracks to wall off both the natural and main.

They saw SanZenith own up on Shakuras Plateau and had to remove it due to "imbalances"

As a Zerg player, I'm not really liking Slag Pits. Close positions feel as close as Steppes, and even close air positions (where you share a gold, since it's not really close air per se) feel pretty close. I think it's closer than comparable positions on Metal or LT, but I'd have to test.
|
My take on the new maps...
Backwater Gulch: Should be down voted by anyone who's not a fan of steppes... the rush distances and layout of expansions is just terrible...
Slag Pits: Well... if your bitbybit you might like this map, but for none cheeser/1 base all in's players this map is just terrible, close position is really short rush distance, natural is extremely far from the main, even the ramp is far, won't be easy to defend at all...
The Shattered Temple: I feel they did it right, but they fucked up abit on the mains, basicly if you spawn in 3/4 o'clock position you picked the short straw, cause your main is freaking huge, and so far from your natural compared to the other 3 spawns... and I don't like the fact that the naturals got pushed behind the ramp insted of at the ramp...
Typhon Peaks: Generaly okay from what I could just shortly pick up, natural seems way to open, xel'naga caverns is open, but this map gives a whole new meaning to open natural, and the back doors to the natural doesnt make this fact any better... I asume alot of 2 base play on this map, as taking a 3rd will allways leave your natural way to exposed.
This is just my take and first impression on the new maps, so flame me all you like

After all the mockery of Zerg players QQing over the last few months, it is refreshing to watch the Terran and Protoss squirm.
|
Shakuras is so much better than the new maps :/ Only typhon is alright, other 2 are just plain awful. And liek said before: just use the gstl maps already...
|
Shakuras was..."plain" to them? What game are are they watching -.-
|
Blizzard...please please please let me play on the same maps as the pros.
|
Gosh darn you Blizzard and your let's put more random crap on the map. You go and remove arguably one of the best if not the best balanced map because it's "too plain." Sigh, I've lost all hope of Blizzard ever putting decent maps onto ladder. Screw ladder I'll stick with custom maps.

The ramp to your main is so far away from the natural you can't put any sort of sim-city up to safely secure an expansion. The naturals ramp is so big and the fact there is not one but two fucking destructo rocks makes it a nightmare if you want to have any kind of security against speedlings or roaches.
Seriously, I played one game on this map and it was insta-veto. Terrible design.
I just wish I had enough votes to vote off the other new maps too.
Blizz get the GSL maps here faster, please.
|
Just played my first game on a new map. It was Typhon Peaks and tbh I really liked it, especially how the main is pretty small and theres not miles of room behind it. Makes it much easier to defend against drops.
My TvT ended with a push through the rocks at the natural. I think it would be even better in cross positions, but seems like a decent enough map as it is. Better than Shakuras imo.

They removed the best map and put in a bunch of crappy ones? And they fixed a map that wasn't even imbalanced?

Dude, look around. Even Zergs are hating the new maps.

Is Typhon peaks the PTR map #3 (the one in which if the rocks go down, it takes like 10 seconds to get tanks in the other players base)?
