as a dude who did alot of War3 modding, changing MPQ pictures won't do the game any harm at all

Unless you majorly fuck up (ie clicking on wrong file and deleting it forever hurr durr) there is really no risk in doing this

This is a 100% untrue. Few years ago there was exactly the same thing for WC3 were u could change the backround in the chat channel lobbys and people actually got banned for it w/o any patch which checked MPQ datas (so i guess battle.net checks on login)

Even though it is about the sound files, the same concept should apply here. In any case, just ask the goddamn support, there is no problem asking about it! In fact, I think I will ask them right now and post here the official response asap.

Are you serious? There are a lot of serious grammar errors in that portuguese version of the e-mail...

It was pure copy'n'paste from both sides, and I do recognize the name "Ciro E." as an official Blizzard Support employee, so I assume it is safe. Either way, I'm waiting for a response.

Interesting, but I'd rather wait to see what their official stance is on something like this. Blizzard has had a slight stick up their collective asses lately, so even though this isn't malicious and is just changing the UI to a more custom experience they very well could choose to ban people for altering a file.

I'd love to have a Kerrigan one, since Tychus is just flat out fucking boring to look at, but whatever.

Changing MPQ files in WoW was one of the best things you could do. Changing the look of your character (race change/Gender change) was so awesome. Then again thats literally stealing money from blizzard because they want to charge you $15 for a change you can do in 2min copying and pasting files by yourself with basically zero computer knowledge needed.

If blizzard kept in the SC2 system for loading MPQ resources, there should be a way to force it to load from folders that mirror the MPQ file structure, and if that is the case, you could override the MPQ data without even changing any of the files....

I have no idea if this feature actually exists in SC2 though...

i dont think this is too risky, i used a different character model in WoW for 3years without getting banned. You can def get banned for this tho

it will not stop any anti-cheat measure blizzard implements from looking at your MPQ files and noticing they are modified. writing you off as a cheat and banning your account.
