Modifying MPQ's has always been against the ToS, no doubt about that. Blizzard has stated several times in WoWs history, that they dont 'like' it. However, Blizzards anti cheating tool, in this case warden. Cannot, will not, and has never looked or done anything towards file manipulation of MPQs, Warden scans the address space of SC2, WoW. Not the files. What Blizzard did implement, and keeps 'patching' at times, for WoW to stop or somehow hinder MPQ changes, was a file called scan.dll. It sits inside your WoW directory, and whenever you delete the file, open wow it will redownload it. What it did, was search for MPQ manipulation, as soon as you opened the application(wow) it would pop up and give you this message ''Model edits has been detected, please repair or reinstall World of Warcraft'' this warning was as soon as you opened wow, BEFORE you logged in. No harm was done towards accounts, none banned or suspended, you simply just couldnt use WoW until the manipulated MPQ was removed from the directory. I see no reason why SC2 would be any different, Warden is the same in SC2 as WoW. No MPQ scanning tools is implemented for SC2 as of now, but i would expect the same thing if people found 'serious' ways of manipulating models, like making DTs visible and so on. Either way, 99.9% sure this aint gonna harm no one, it never has. UPDATE: A little update on the whole WoW story. Back when Blizzard implemented the scan.dll, someone created an application to run WoW from that bypassed the scan. So people once again could use model edits. Blizzard still never banned for it. Ever since Wrath of the Lich king, scan.dll started to have no effect on model edits, MPQ manipulation. No application was suddenly needed, just dropping an MPQ file within the /data folder succesfully changed a model, like this picture for SC2. Ever since Wrath, nothing has been done to MPQ manipulation. I honestly think, Blizzard has stopped to care. | ||

Blizzard has moved toward this attitude of "We're going to make you pay for the privilege of playing our game, and you have to play it on our terms. While you're playing Starcraft, your computer belongs to us. If we choose not to fuck with it, that's purely a *choice* on our part. You have to play on our servers, and we will modify your client and do whatever the hell else we want to your computer whenever we like, and if you even try to see what we're doing, we'll ban your account without refunding the money you paid for the game". Perhaps they are entitled to do this legally, but it's a dick move, and contrary to the original attitude that made the company successful in the first place. | ||

Eh, if you read ZnyX post above, I think that pretty much sums it up. These mods do not give the player any sort of advantage at all, and never will be able to. This thread inspired me to search for a way to add BW sounds to sc2 (I want my zerg to sound scary damnit) and I am now happily playing with all the BW glory (ie "Aaaah Yeah" stimpacks, overmind over the annoying queen voice, and the awesomely evil hydra voice) thanks to petergibbons' tutorial posted here: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=117317¤tpage=14 I highly suggest anyone else interested to give it a go if the sc2 sounds have always annoyed you, as they did annoy me.It doesn't take much time and makes me roll zerg more than I used to (I despise the wet noodle slapping attack noise so much). Just grab the sound pack Zelniq posted on the 1st page OP, and follow peter's instructions. Also, terran's BW advisor sounds too cute ^_^ | ||

Why you ask? Well, if we get banned, odds are some of us will buy a second copy, meaning they make big money T.T I think Activision-Blizzard might actually do this | ||

EULA's are shrinkwrap licences, you only get to view the licence after you already paid for the game, meaning that they lack a lot of the legal validity of actual agreements which you get to see before you purchase a service or good. edit: Another thing is that you edit a client, and clients are not an account, it is perfectly legal by blizzard's terms to share a client and keep separate accounts, can they really ban you for an edit your brother made without your notice? | ||

Its a good version for those that dont like as much seethroughness though. Also, Existor idk if you would need this, but for anyone who wants to make their own background here is a nice starter kit of what I used. BackgroundStarterKit Just open it in photoshop and put your desired background between the two layers. Have fun! | ||
