Does anyone use them? I have a razer mamba and feel it would help me a lot to say, bind control groups 0 and 9 to my mouse buttons and use them for my active control units.

Another question is how do you do it? Is it even possible? I tried to change the settings in the options tab in SC2 and I was unable to.

Do not do this. You will be banned by Blizzard.

I've heard of people being banned because they used macros, I wouldn't use them...

Not for changing the key bindings. But if he creates a macro to automate a few steps, THEN he'll get banned.

Edit: Clarity: What he's saying (if I'm understanding) is he wants to bind control groups to his mouse keys instead of 0-9. That's not a macro, it'd be like if I bound my control groups to qwerty...etc.

how' that a macro?

it's simply rebinding your keys.
one button press will still be one action

If you do it via mouse software (for example, Logitech's software), then there's no way for Blizz to know.

The question is how do I do it? And yes all I want to do here is have my left mouse button register as my "9"key, for example.

atm you can't customise keybinding in sc2, although they are working on that!

Perhaps using something like joy2key would be what you are looking for, however i'm not sure how it would deal with a multi button mouse like the mamba... j2k normally is used to bind a joystick to keys for playing guitar hero or whatever on your PC, but you can bind any key to any other key essentially.

You should be able to bind 1-9 to mouse buttons with it. There are probably easier ways, but this was the first thing that came to mind

Let me get this straight :O, i can't use any macros even if i have a Logitech g15 keyboard? can anyone conform this? thanks!.

As for the Op i think if you run the software that you installed from Razer for the Mamba you have you can change whatever key on that mouse to whatever command you wish it to issue when you click it, At least that's the case with my Logitech G5 .

yes this is allowed, changing keybinds is allowed.

the moment you have 2 actions for 1 keybind its not allowed (macro)

The software that came with your Mamba (or that you can download from Razer) will have a binding system on it, undoubtedly, so that you can bind special effects, specific keys or macros (which will get you banned, as others have stated).

I'm interested in this too. I would absolutely LOVE having the extra buttons on my Razer Naga to use for stuff. Is that Joy2Key program the only way to do it?

Logitech Setpoint will do it. I used to use all the buttons on my MX Revolution. Had 1, 2 on the side and 0 as the little button in the middle. Worked really good. But my MX Revolution is wireless, so I had to bail on it.
And it makes it so you can't click the mouse wheel in on webpages for scrolling : /

How does Blizzard even know that your'e macro-ing to ban you? It's not even online and will definitely not trigger any hack detection since it is a normal hardware modification.

I'm using AutoHotkey to map mouse button 4 to control group 0, still not banned.

Okay, I'll look into this.

For the people recommending I use the Razer Mamba software I tried that and there wasn't any option to just switch two key bindings, it was all macros and I didn't want to bother with that.

I have a Razer Death Adder and bind 9, 0 to each of the mouse buttons and have been doing this trouble free since release.

For the OP it's OK to use a macro mouse as long as you're just rebinding keys. One press, one action = OK. Nothing wrong with having the key be on your mouse or a clapper or whatever.

Otherwise, it's totally cheating to use macros, so obviously you shouldn't do it. APM is intended to be a limiting resource in SC2.

Wrong. Only queueing up macros for a single button is illegal. For example, if pressing a side mouse button selects a queen and then tells it to inject larva, that is illegal. But simply assigning a side mouse button to 0 or 9 is perfectly legal.

1 button = 1 command = legal
1 button = 2+ commands = illegal

So i can use logitech setpoint to assign like a command center(control group 4) to the side buttons on my mouse as long as it only selects the command center?

Pretty much this. I wonder why blizzard didn't implement any sort of re-binding system (WoW had it :\)

If the side-button only sends the #4, then it's perfectly fine. If it sends 4s that's cheating. There's no reason players can't configure their inputs in a way that's convenient, as long as they aren't using a program to add inputs that the player doesn't have to execute.

i did that for my logitech mx518, however after playing like 200 games i started to feel some pain, due to the high usage of mouse buttons ( for example 7 used for cc, witch was my mouse button 4, my hand posture became really weird, after that i changed to number 5 better but the pain was still there.... so i was forced to go back to my keyboard bindings.

You can use them for something like upgrades structures, however i would highly recommend sticking to keyboard, as you never know when you might have software problems, cant install anything on tourney computers etc.

I like having more control group hotkeys that are suitable for units (basically buttons that are at a convenient distance to press). Just 3 groups (1-3, 4+ for macro related stuff) isn't enough when you start having a lot of specialized (infestor, ghost, etc.) units, and I like the possibility of having ad-hoc control groups for stuff like drops.

Hey guys, a question related to the issues discussed thus far in the thread:

I have been doing the same thing - using a program to have my mouse buttons register as keyboard presses. My concern is that, theoretically, if I ever wanted to go play in a tournament I'd be screwed because the way I'm currently accomplishing this is via a third party program.

I've seen Razer mouses advertise "Synapse On-board Memory" - would these carry these switched keybindings around with them so that, for instance, if I just plugged the mouse into a new computer, they'd retain the keybinds? Or should I, for consistency's sake, force myself to relearn the default hotkey setup without using mouse binds?

I have shift and control on my mouse buttons.

I attempted to make a macro when the mineral bug existed, but stopped when I found out I could be banned for it.
