Hello everyone! I would like to know your Opinions about different Input Devices. I think we Can Not and Must Not Deny Future technologies!

The Poll about Macros showed that more than 90% of the people would Not Allow the usage of them, So I cleared this poll from the Topic.

The Variation of Input Devices only gives an Opportunity for Different People to feel Comfortable !!! Maybe someone wouldn't like to press Ctrl with like his "Wrist", or would like to use ALL the ControlGroup keys like me.
Do Not Be Scared!, if you haven't ever come across with more than a Simple Keyboard and Mouse. These are just Tools, although the New ones are much more Handy and Comfortable for Everyone, than they Ancestors were.
An Important thing about GamePads is they usually have only like 10-20 Keys ! So if you would like to use the ~40 Hotkeys in StarCraft II, then you Must make at least 2 different Layers for this, and keep Changing them Constantly to get to the Hotkey desired ! This means some constant minor time loss. Personally I use one Layer for mostly Micro, and another for mostly Macro, with a 2 Button Mouse.
Pre-defined Macros won't get you ahead in StarCraft I think !!! For example a "Shift+B+G" Macro will prepare building GateWays for you immediately, BUT you cannot use this Chain-Macroed key for anything else !!! So in the end it's way better to separate these 3 type of keys from each other !!!
Finally I think you wouldn't say for example to a Football player, that he can use ONLY the Cheapest Shoes during his Matches, because... because... Why ???
PS: Sorry in anticipation, if I don't visit the topic frequently.

I think you should be able to choose whatever controller you want and configurate them as much as you want as long as you follow the rule one button one action.

I'd love to see someone play with a gamepad, just for kicks. I wonder if it would even be possible.

It can be done, but you got just like 10-20 Keys on GamePads, so you need to Spread the ~40 Keys used in StarCraft 2 to Two different Layers and need to Change them constantly to get to the Hotkeys you would like to use. Personally I use a Micro-like Layer and a Macro-like Layer.

Rule of thumb: one press -> one key sent.
Equipment must be keyboard/mouse only. Result: You can use stuff like the g500, razer keyboards, etc, but you may not use macros, only direct button re-mapping.
|
The Macro Poll seems pointless, cause more than 90% of the people wouldn't like to see it in Tourneys, so I'm gonna take it off the list soon I think.
A plus thing about Mice, that I think with the Razer one on the Picture with a ton of Buttons maybe looks cool, but I think you just Can Not Micro with it well, so I use the 2 Button Logitech Mini Optical too. =)

I have the G110 keyboard, but have not used the extra buttons. It was a waste of money, only thing I like is the lit keys.

Well, mostly...I have [enter]gl hf[enter] bound to G4, but that's it. The media controls and backlight are nice, but not worth the price tag.

Maybe I'm just not correct in what I think "modifiable buttons" are but do any of these options represent mult-button mouse w/o macro functionality? Sorry if I sound ignorant, but I've been using my Intellimouse for like 10 years now.

+1
I don't thing there is anything wrong with a 3rd mouse button. Sometimes it's nice to scroll with it.

Modifiable Buttons mean for me, that these Buttons can be set as any letter Keys, but the cream on the cake is if you can even set them as Ctrl, Shift, Alt too.
About the G110 keyboard: I've looked after it and the 2 Columns seem like a beginning for modifiable left side buttons on Keyboards, But 2 Columns are just not enough to get it going I think. I've been using 3 Columns since I've made my first Lego "GamePad" (Link to it is on the Bottom of the Topic)

As long as one button = one action, I see no problem with gamepads/other odd-shaped keyboards or mice with many programmable buttons.

Actually by "basic keyboard" I just think "keyboard without additional macro stuff". If he wants to use a Tarantula or a G15 because he finds it confortable, why not, but without using the macro functions. That's the same with the football player, he can use any shoes he loves, but he can't use shoes with automatic ball-launcher or something like that. I don't have anything against confort, but confort doesn't mean new functions.

I'm all for customizing and improving performance of any input devices. Something like a gamepad is hard since they mostly require some software.
But any more automatization than what is already in the game should be disallowed.
The same goes for visual aid, like and APM meter or timer.

I don't have anything against confort, but confort doesn't mean new functions. I've been waiting for a Response to my Football example =) And I think you got the Point I wanted to say. I wouldn't like to see Automatic Ball-Launcher on Shoes neither. And back to the Inputs I share the same opinion with the people saying: 1 Keypress = 1 Action

Are there actually tournaments that do not allow gamepads? I always assumed gamepads would be fine because they're really just a type of keyboard: they are a board with keys on it. As far as 2-button mice goes, who the hell doesn't at least have a wheel on their mouse nowadays? This isn't the 1990's anymore.
I say, use whatever you want as long as it doesn't play the game for you... in 10 years I plan to be playing this game with those gloves that Tom Cruise used in Minority Report.

I've changed the Structure of the Topic, and made the Polls much Clearer and Rational, while the EU servers were down. Excuse me for the ~60 votes untill now, but they got lost in the process.

I have a G9, and I recently bought a G15 only because it was on sale with a big discount, and, the customisable buttons are awesome, but I won't ever set them up to record macros. Customising my mouse' sidebuttons to hotkeys feels "cheap" enough; but hey, I waited ages (2+ years) before I finally caved in and bought this mouse, so I might as well indulge in its awesomeness.
I'm not sure how I feel about the "advancement" of these technologies. In a way, I want these to be more popular, so that they can become more widely accepted, e.g. in tourneys. But at the same time, I really don't like their macro function, since it's as close to cheating as you can get, without, you know, actually cheating. And, it's also something that's probably really hard to police?
