In it's EULA isn't it stated that Octopshape will consume bandwith even after you close the stream? :o

Octoshape just segfaults for me.

Octoshape would eat too much bandwith for me to use. with 30gig ul/dl i already have to chose what i watch carefuly.

Octoshape... is the biggest piece of garbage I've ever seen in my life
|
I agree, Octoshape needs to shape up and get better.

Octoshape. Beats my livestream and ustream experiences hands down. Thousands upon thousands of viewers, NO LAG.
That for me is the most important thing when watching streams.
And you can setup it to close when not needed, not eating your bandwith after you finish watching.

True. But the argument was that it's only consuming bandwith when the stream is on, which is false. The fact that you can turn it off doesn't change that. Just wanted to clear that up for the masses who don't really know what octoshape is.

To fair they do state it when promting you to install, that it will consume bandwidth even after you close the stream. So its not like its something they do underhanded. And Im willing to accept that since it was so lag free and good (at least for me), maybe because it runs in the background for a lot of people.

It's what you could call a Worm. I installed it, but it has literally no contact with the outside world.
|
judging by IEM and now MLG, i will say i fully support octoshape so far, the streams have been 0% lagging for me and with so few hickups that its barely worth complaining about, compared to other streams that seems much more random
but it IS a shame that alot have trouble with getting it to work, hopefully it will be solved over time

I'm surprised more people are not mad or at least annoyed it's a forced thing. Personally I don't mind sending out my extra bandwidth torrent style if I'm watching a stream and only doing that. I don't like being forced to put that strain on my computer though. Just because I have a stream up doesn't mean I'm devoting my attention to it. Normally when I'm going to get on sc2 the first thing I do is pop up the tl/jtv stream sections and tab a bunch of streams to see if anyone is worth watching over playing myself. I also sometimes listen to tourney streams in the background of gaming. In those situations being forced to use Octoshape is annoying. If it at least gave the option to not use it, or to limit the bandwidth used I wouldn't mind it as much. I also question it being used by corporate sponsored events, in the mlg case especially. I felt like I had to mute almost as many commercial breaks as content, content that was barely high enough quality to tell what was going on. I don't know I guess all I'm saying is that if it was jtv/ustream/livestream I'd be more open to it (with being able to control it's bandwidth use) as I'd be more likely to believe it was for the better of the viewership, and not skeptical this is just a ploy to cut mlg streaming costs to the absolute minimum regardless of the quality provided. (Clearly they want to provide the best stream for the least money, I'm just saying I think the low quality of the free stream combined with this and quite a few commercials..seems to far in one direction to me).

Never worked for me and I'm not going to try it again.

works fine for me, never had issues

I'm bumping this thread because since yesterday my Antivir is spotting an octoshape dll file as a malware : AppData\Roaming\Octoshape\Octoshape Streaming Services\sua-1002170-0-libOctoshapeClient.dll Anyone else got this ? Is it dangerous ? Thanks !
|
It was such a hassle to get the plug-in to watch the iem. Man, i almost went insane. I probably did something wrong a bunch of times seeing as i had to install it about 4-5 times before i could get it to work. Good quality stream though. Was well worth it for the iem games in my opinion.

For those having a problem with Octoshape not working with your default browser, if you go into settings in Octoshape you can change the browser it uses from the "Default Browser" which I think is IE to the "System Default Browser" I believe.
|
Never had any problems with it.

Us in the SEA region might have download caps. I'm just worried about Octoshape consuming tons of bandwidth while I'm unawares.
In Firefox, I went to Tools -> Add-ons and disabled Octoshape. Yet for some reason, I am still able to watch Octoshape streams =/.
Do any of you guys know what the deal behind that is? Is Octoshape still running?
|
I think while you have the octoshape icon in your taskbar it's still running. Don't know if the disable thing in firefox changes something. Anyone but me having Antivir spotting sua-1002170-0-libOctoshapeClient.dll as a backdoor malware ?
