Agreed.

I'd like to see more talented players post instead of seeing a 1:1 ratio of good threads to "Terran unit X is imbalanced in TvX".

If you want to have a place where comments are restricted to skilled players and good tactical strategists, it should be by nomination. Those nominated should be contributors that have demonstrated skill by being in some top level tournaments or have consistently shown insightful analysis or very up to date on the state of the high level metagame. Someone like Day[9] that watches and studies high level players is just as helpful in noticing trends in SC2 play as a top level player.

It'd be like one of TL's strategy talk sessions except in forum form with the invitations of guests in the form of nominated and approved contributors.

Yes, I agree. I try to argue sometimes, but I get into it with an open mind and sometimes I will be wrong. Instead of getting angry about it, I learn from it until next time.

I also try to play macro games to increase my skill in the long run, because I am an 800 diamond player atm and I feel like my gameplay is full of mistakes and small things that I just do wrong or badly.

But, I am happy to learn, because in the end, what does your rank do for you if you are a bad player.
To pray is to accept defeat.

Thanks for this post. I think a lot of newer players think they are better than they really are, but as time goes on, people will realise where they 'belong'. I'm not sure if I'm for or against a Pro League, but if there is one, it really needs to be done correctly. Diamond League could be the same way, but Blizzard made it too easy. If they introduce a Pro League, I really want the requirements to be high.

Platinum (not stuck-in-platinum-because-stupid-system-won't-promote-me but actual platinum): I have played through my build order more than twenty times.

And what's your source?

so far the plans for Proleague(IF it comes) is that it will be invite only, and i think(and hope) that you need to do alot more than just be high in ladder to be invited, IE; doing good at tournaments and so on

You know how I know Diamond players are bad?

I can beat them (and in my opinion, that's absurd).

I guess the only difference is that I actually review what I have done good and what I haven't done good and try to optimize my builds throughout my games.

i hope not. That sorta defies the whole idea of proleague as envisioned. Doing good in tournaments is good for doing good in tournaments, getting invited to invite only ones and winning cash, while proleague adresses the people who succeed in ladder.

Yeah the diamond league is a joke, I'm mid-diamond, never played BW and I'm not a good player at all. I make plenty of mistakes, mess up my timings, yet making it to diamond was a breeze.

I would be all for keeping the TL forums the same as they are now so people of all skill levels to post ideas. Theory crafting is useless most of the time but every once in a while a game changing strat will get posted.
Having in invite/nomiation sessions of progamers would be fine by me you would get a much more intellectual discussions with a lot less trolls.

Perfect example of why TL moderaters need to start laying down the warn/ban hammer more:

http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=145740

Fist made a great post, listed the pro's and con's of his build, gave some solid advice about transitions into mid-game, AND posted multiple replays. He did everything his was supposed to do.

The initial community response: shit all over his post.

"I didn't watch the replays but your build will die to 2 gate"
"Well based on the replays all your opponents sucked, I could counter that easy"
"Rofl how could those be diamond opponents, get better reps"
"This build won't work vs xyz strat"

Armchair theorycrafters at their finest. Evidently the only way to discuss a build is to play vs people that don't make mistakes. Newsflash: EVERYONE makes mistakes. Hindsight is 20/20 and when you are watching a replay you know what your opponent is doing at any given second. You could take a replay of anyone and figure out a way to counter what they did in that given instance. Do you normally go into games and tell someone, "oh hey btw I'm banshee rushing this game, good luck!" or "probably going 2 gate into robo and getting immortals"? I'm guessing the answer is no. The whole point of having an arsenal of builds to choose from is so that your opponent doesn't know exactly what you are doing.

Fist didn't claim to invent the strat, or be the only one using it. He never claimed it would work in every scenario, or that it was a super build that assured you a win. He simply had a build that he had been using with great succes and took some time out of his day to post it here. Thankfully the trolls finally let off and real discussion began. Many people were grateful for his contribution to the community, but if that's what people have to go through everytime they put up a post don't expect them to keep posting.

Why is the inital reaction of the community so negative? It's like people need to prove they are superior instead of having a discussion as equals. Now if Fist had posted, "Hey guyz I made this super build dat got me diamond lol, I dun have any replays but here's the BO. Btw when you use plz tell people you are "Fist'ing" them cuz dat would be coo! lololol" Then please by all means rip him apart.

Note I'm not against low skilled players asking for help and making posts. There's nothing wrong with that as long as they follow the same format of providing replays and posting constructively. What I'm against is the opinionated garbage that spewed forth by people that would rather try to "one up" someone on the internet instead of taking the time to watch the replays and give meaningful feedback.

I also think it is in the best interest of the thread that when someone is warned/banned for their post that it gets pruned out of the thread and placed in another thread, call it the "Trash Thread" or something. That keeps the garbage out and the discussion focused on the meaningful replies.

The reason why Diamond is full of low level players is because there is an overall lack of good players. If Starcraft was a new game, there would be scrubs who have A/A+ ranks as well.

Maybe I'm wrong -_-

Well on pokernet.dk a danish pokersite. They have a section where only invited pro players can talk.

Arenajunkies for WoW arena also requires 2400+ rating.

This makes for much better forums.

Coming from a former r1 glad s5-s6 lock glad, no, Arenajunkies is awful. Like, really fucking aweful. Though I guess it was awesome relative to the quality of the WoW boards, or blizzboards in general. The quality of a site has very little to do with the quality of the players using it, its an correlation, not a causation.

Instead, the quality of any forum is basically a sole result of the posting attitude of the users. Forums are good when posters post to contribute to the community and talk with people who share their interests in what they're doing. They're bad once forumers post for "erep" or "epeen" or to virtually "win" (lol) an argument. And thats accomplished mainly by good moderators.

A poor player posting constructively literally CANNOT act in a ignorant or obnoxious way. Because if hes posting constructively, hes talking from his own base of experiences, and realizing much of that is anecdotal. Literally anyone thinking rationally would realize that, its only lost when said poor player attempts to make an "epeen" for himself and starts taking himself and his ego too seriously, and thinking his anecedotal experiences are the only thing that matters.

The best WoW board is probably elitistjerks, (it is pve tho) and it doesn't have a rank requirement, just iron fisted moderation. So gogo tl staff :p.

BG9 or GTFO Kidding aside I really agree with everything you said. I would love to see the ban hammer come down hard on the strat forums. Don't follow the rules, BAN!

I appreciate people announcing their rating when they post. As a 600+ diamond player I know that it doesn't mean anything because I'm there and I don't have even one solid build order, just good micro and macro. Rating is valuable information because it tells me that their strategy is working against player with decent mechanics.

You're actually approaching it the right way. Up to a certain skill level, the proper development doesn't require any memorization of build orders at. Your focus should be working on your tactical tactical ability (micro and macro). In fact working on build orders might hinder the development of the basics (mechanics, control, reaction, and decision-making.)

If you focus on build orders too early, it may hinder your development of reaction and decision-making. You no longer learned all reasoning behind build orders before learning to execute them. That means you might find yourself in unfamiliar territory and freeze up when the opponent takes you out of the book by trying some cheese or funky build.

While I think the intentions of the OP were well, his analysis might be off a bit. IMO his definitions of the ranks are pretty absurd. I know plenty of bronze players who know all the units very well, and even have some build orders, they are usually just bad at macro. And I disagree that it is easy to get to high level diamond with one all-in build. Sure, I was able to get to diamond using 4-gate 90% of the time, but once you get to diamond you find out pretty quick that most of the players know how to stop a 4-gate push.

I think it is pretty naive to say that diamond level players know nothing about the game. Almost all diamond players are going to have a pretty solid understanding of the game. What separates the midlevel diamond players from the pros is the ability to adapt to the game and skill. Sure, you can practice over and over, but some people are just gifted at playing video games, just like athletes are naturally gifted.

I'm not really sure about the actual statistics, so please correct me if I am wrong, but I would guess diamond players are in the top 10% of the players in starcraft, which means they are pretty good. And while one subforum might be a good spot to restrict posting, it also has it's consequences. Arenajunkies has some good info but such stupid bickering and bashing it can make you sick at times. Elitistjerks is much better IMO and they let everyone post but keep very strict mods.
