- wall of text, but after you'll read it, your Zergs will be with Overmind voice instead grandmother voice -
WARNING!!! Officially it's not allowed to modify game files. You are installing this mod for your own risk
I know, that many players don't like new Zerg announcer voice. In SC2 we heard old grandmother's voice for Zergs. Yes, Overmind was killed in SC1, but... his voice is more cool, than new.
I've created small modification for StarCraft 2 with Overmind's voice for Zerg.
Some voice changes in this mod - fixed some bad replies, like "Spawn moar overlooods" to "Spawn more overlords" - deleted long pauses from some replies - added echo and some sound effects, that makes voices more like Overmind from SC1 and from SC2 vampaign from one of Zeratul's briefings
Another good thing for this MOD - you can play with this mod in MULTIPLAYER, and of course, in ranked matches too.
It's a compromise between SC1 Overmind (announcer) and SC2 Overmind (Zeratul's campaign) SC1 Overmind voice [SPOILER]SC2 Overmind voice
You can download it in 2 versions - russian and english.

* links deleted, because Blizzard can ban you for replacing VOICE files *

First read this topic: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=142356 how to repplace ingame files -OR- read this first post instructions.
1) Make file-copies for StarCraft II/Mods/Liberty.SC2Mod/enGB.SC2Assets _AND MAYBE_ StarCraft II/Versions/Base/15405/patch-enGB.SC2Archive (if this file exists. I don't know, did Blizzard replaced announcer voice "We must place that on vespene geyser" to "On vespene geyser")
2) Download MPQ Editor.
3) Open enGB.SC2Assets and go to LocalizedData -> Sounds -> ZergUnitVO -> Queen. Select all sound files from downloaded archive (from eng or rus folders) and move them to MPQEditor's windows with replacing original voice .ogg files. COnfirm replacement.
4) *If Blizzard added shorter reply about "place on vespene geyser", if not, miss this paragraph* Open StarCraft II/Versions/Base15405/patch-enGB.SC2Archive like you're opened previous archive and go in MPQEditor to folder Liberty.SC2Mod -> ruRU.SC2Assets -> LocalizedData -> Sounds -> ZergUnitVO -> Queen, where you must replace only ONE file - Alert_ZergPlaceOnVespeneGeyser.ogg
4) Confirm replacement and CLOSE MPQ EDITOR. If you didn't closed it, SC2 will have some problems
5) Start StarCraft 2 and play with Overmind's voice
P.S. If you want test new voices without changing game files, open voice .ogg-files in any media-player.
|
please add a youtube video with the sounds, i dont know what to expect LE I previewed the files in the archive, Imo you should rip the sounds in SC1 and place them in SC2
|
It's alright... the only problem is that a lot of the sounds are almost distant and tinny.
The "Nuclear Launch Detected" sound is really nice, the others aren't of a high enough quality though.
Just my opinion. Take of it what you will.
Keep in mind I just listened to the sound OUT of game and am using 7.1 surround sound. This may have caused an issue I don't know about.

1) Video doesn't needed. Download archive and open sound .ogg files in any media-player (if you have K-Lite codec pack).
2) SC1 announcer voice dosn't have a lot replies, that are in StarCraft 2. Thats why I've changed Zerg grandmother's voice to Overmind's voice. Same words, same replies, but with bass, echoes and some fixes, like long sounds ("spawn more overloooords", etc) or long pauses ("Mutation...... complete", etc)
3) Bad quality? I have standart sound output. Remember, that there are original sound voices, but with some changes, as I said, to bass, echo and other

i like the idea, but the voice doesnt sound like the original, its all echoey and tinny like the above poster said.
|
oh wow lol i'm gonna try the russian just to hear what it sounds like
|
Have you checked the TOU to make sure this is allowed?
Zelniq did this in the beta but one of the patches broke it, id love to have my bw sounds back in sc2
|
I agree that it sounds weird...
Would definitely use if I thought it sounds the same!

Kryptonite Remember overmind's voice from SC2 campaign from one of zeratul's briefings. I think, it's very same with new overmind voice from campaign. I'm not expert in sound editing.
prodiG TOU? Yes, one of many patches broked it, but if you will replace files in SC2 archives (sc2assets, etc), it will work
Thratur That's your choice. Play then with original woman zerg announcer

Russian= Hella hard to understand even if you know russian, unless you know what it says before you listen to it :-) Edit: IMO i think the 'woman announser' is supposed to be the queen. Perhaps im wrong

Half Download archive and open it. If you have codecs for .ogg-format files, you can open it in any media-player

Does anyone still have the file for the phase 1 "WE REQUIRE MORE MINERAWLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ"? I wanna switch that back to the boring less zergy voice.

Great work!! Can I reupload my archive with your files? And take from your files reply "Our drones are under atack", because my version is bad.
P.S. If yes, I'll add your nickname to first post, ok?
