So I noticed on the liquipedia article it says:
"During a broadcast game on September 16, 2009, OGN commentator Um Jae Kyung (์์ฌ๊ฒฝ) briefly discussed the difference between a bunker rush and a "cheese" rush. According to his explanation, the term "cheese" originated from the word "cheater's" (words in Korean are sometimes shortened by the middle syllables, so ์นํฐ์ฆ [chi tuh zu] would become ์น์ฆ [chi zu])."
which implies that "cheese" may have been invented during some korean e-sports, but I don't believe that is true. I know long before Starcraft was even invented gaming still had the "cheese" phrase. The earliest account of it I saw was in 1994's Primal Rage where it would actually display a Swiss Cheese icon above you when you did "cheap" moves and then prevent you from continuing the cheesy move. It may have existed before that as well, thats just the first time I was introduced to it.

This is actually really eye opening.

Not really, but proxied it is.

Two month old thread: "Cheesing what is it really"
TL wasn't launched a week before the beta. We have discussed this over, and over, and over, and over again. And then it got closed. http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=118089
The cheese characterization has been used in several games for a long time not related to Starcraft at all so I doubt that it has anything to do with Korean language.

No, it is not a cheese. It is just early pressure/harass, if it doesn't do any damage you will just be a little behind. A cheese would be GG upon failure.

That would be an all-in, and I believe cheese and all-in can exist as both or only one. From what I read on these forums a little while back cheese is a term to describe a strat that would fail if spotted (ie proxying a darkshrine against T so they use their OC energy and don't produce turrets/ravens)
Edit:
Cheese
Cheese is a negative expression which refers to a strategy that is highly unconventional and designed to take one's opponent by surprise. In general, cheese is nearly impossible to defeat if it is not scouted but easy to defeat if it is scouted.

I guess as a brief add-on, does proxy stand for proximity? Or is it supposed to mean it's actual definition?

Pretty sure it's proxy's literal denotative definition.

Proxy: acting as substitute for another Proximity: 1: the property of being close together 2: the region close around a person or thing
They both make sense to me, but I think proximity is more likely the correct one, as it'd be kinda strange if SC people actually adapted the literal definition of proxy to the game. It's a bit too "intelligent," if you'll forgive me for saying so.

Proxy is short for proximity. It refers to building structures near your opponents base, or even in your opponents base.

From Liquipedia:
A proxy building is a building built outside your own base including your natural base, sometimes in the proximity of your opponent's base. Despite the similarity between the words 'proximity' and 'proxy', the term actually stems from the word 'proxy' as something which in acts on behalf of someone or something else.

cheese = cheap and easy. cheesy.
pretty much applies to most of the cheese rushes since they a) often mean a easy win and b) often require very little control or even skill outside of timings.
