Too Many LANs? Tournament Oversaturation

Happy Friday.

After the COVID pandemic, Counter-Strike LAN tournament schedules are back to the point of potential oversaturation. For players, this often means jumping on a plane at the end of one tournament to compete in another, in some cases less than 24h later. The jet lag that comes with it may negatively impact their performance and health. Research on the matter is limited, but here is what it tells us.

Tiers of events is important to consider in this type of analysis. Would the worst full time pro team be allowed to attend the best events? Would the best team globally bother to attend the worst ones or the ones with bad scheduling clashing with a top tier event?

So the most impacted teams are likely mid tier teams that often attend top tournaments but might feel forced to attend a lower tier one just to keep their spot in top tier ones.

I'm headed to a LAN today! I can't wait! Except there is really no "LAN". Its a bunch of Sega Genesis and SNES systems.

Even top-tier team in CS are basically competing every other week or so, especially during the summer season. I would echo your thoughts on mid-tier teams. Especially since money has become tight in esports (esports winter), teams can't rely on sponsors and marketing anymore. They need prize money too.
