oh, and not even server reset? cool, i thought all the servers would get wiped with this patch

guess it just shows that patch 13 is coming soon and the ultra buffs will come with that, and hopefully the zerg roach dwn to 1 supply again

Why would they nerf roaches only to buff them? Not to mention an ultra buff is not going to do anything to stop the ever widening imbalance that exists with zerg units. Simply put with this nerf zerg do not have enough units to do anything.

Before Roaches were one of the most efficient hp/population units. They were 145hp/pop while ultras by comparison are 100hp/pop. So part of me understands this change. The other part of me realizes that now roaches are 72.5hp/pop which is only 2.5hp/pop better than zerglings. Obviously in game there are more factors like resource cost, armor, and so on.

Roaches are now moving away from being a useful unit and toward being a unit you make because your opponent has splash dmg and/or bonus dmg vs light and roaches are the only thing you can make to deal with that. While it may increase diversity, diversity is only fun when you WANT to make the different units because of what they do. It's not fun when you have to make a unit because it's the only armored unit you have.

Further patches might improve the situation, but it's not going to be an enjoyable wait at all.

I can only hope they are trying to define Ultras as the goto ground unit in late game, however nerfing the roach before doing anything to the ultra (other than lolmoardamage) seems highly weird.

Im no where near high caliber but Ive found even with double the bases up I cant beat a terran mech that has sufficient viking backup. Every ZvT I play is completely geared around ending it by midgame because of that.

Now with this roach nerf Im not sure I can end it with midgame pushes so unless something changes I may have to just go with bling early pool cheese when my random gives me ZvT. Or try for silly doomdrops when terran unsieges and moves out.

Frankly Im just stumped by this patch change, with no other changes to zerg race I don't see how what its meant to do to change zerg play other than crack it with a massive nerfbat.

I've been thinking for a while that that I should switch to different races more during beta, thanks for giving me a very good reason, Blizzard.

Honestly not sure what I am going to have to do to compensate, roaches functioned as meat tanks not just in their high HP but also in their numbers. Lings could never quite hope to accomplish that role short of dark swarm making a return. I pretty much agree with Morrow, in the later game fights I am just going to be working with absolutely less HP's worth of units going in with little way to make a difference on the matter.

Why are so many zerg so reliant on roaches?
Roaches are great units but to me it seems sort of weird that the most used zerg unit is/was a 1 supply unit~.
I'm glad i can expect more unique builds rather than a bunch of roach rushes.

Games still in beta so the changes/nerfs/buffs aren't going to be permanent~ Explore the game some more

You guys should really stop acting like every patch should be it.

It's not pin the fucking tail on the donkey. You don't throw some shit at it and be like TADA!! DONE!!!

They make changes, observe the effects, make changes, observe the effects. Not only is it not bad to expect that each patch won't be the end of balance -- it's probably better to do it this way.

Was there another 1 supply unit for zerg in BW? Also, why don't we approach this roach nerf like a slight cost increase for roaches at first? I realize that 200 supply of roaches now means 100 instead of 200, which is obviously huge, but until you get supply capped really the only difference is that now you need to make more overlords. That might screw up the early roach rush, but otherwise it's really just equivalent to a price hike on roaches, no? Now instead of spending 100 extra minerals for an ovie after every 10 roaches you spend 200 (and admittedly a larva).
I don't see why that change was necessary either, but it's true that the roach is ridiculously powerful for a 1 food unit. I thought it worked out ok balance wise, but it sure as hell never seemed "fair" that a unit that powerful would be 1 food. When I first was told they were I was all "haha, yeah right, you misread that".

It's nice to know that the ONLY thing that removes force field is a unit from the same race that comes at the opposite end of the tech tree. My 2v2 partner and I are looking to perma block some people into bases and see how that works lol. Anyways, I wonder if this change was for balance, or for buggy issues.
