Fuck it. The point of being the moderator is to not let someone answer a simple question with a 10 minute off-topic answer.

I feel bad for Wheat because this was honestly a pretty disappointing spell of moderation and his association with EG only makes it easier to point the finger. It was genuinely a very precarious situation for him and it seemed like he went with the safer bet.
There were genuinely moments where EG's Alex was talking for close to 10 minutes, and then Milkis would get a couple of sentences and we'd go back to Alex.
There was a point where Alex literally drones on as a precursor a question for like 6-7 minutes, then forgets what the question was. Meanwhile, Milkis was struggling to get a word in and both sides ended up talking in two different directions.
I do think one thing is valid in the end, Korea isn't the bee's knees when it comes to tournaments, but it is when it comes to players. The foreign scene wants the Korean players, the Koreans want the foreign tournaments. Neither side should be looking at this with a "They need to conform to us" outlook or they both get screwed over.
It's time for the Korean teams to start contracting players and holding on to them, because the foreign teams have the money... and they want the talent that's in Korea.

since we all know this isnt actually going to happen you could spend your time replying to people you feel make valid points rather than throwing your rattle on the ground

Did you learn the victim play from Incontrol? It was blatant how biased the show based on the comments in the thread and from what I saw.. Just say that it was an accident and get over it.

That's the thing Wheat, you do have the power to control how much or how little they talk. For instance, at the end of the interview Alex spent a long time questioning the ethics of Milkis posting the tranlated interview without going to EG first. Then, when Milkis tried to explain why it is not his job to get EG's side of the story, you cut him off. I understand that the conversation was getting uncomfortable, but allowing Alex to throw a lot of accusations Milkis way (some which were completely unfounded) was what took it down that road in the first place.

By cutting Milkis off, for a good reason or not, you are deciding that a guest isn't allowed to talk on a certain topic. You cannot do that and then say you aren't accountable for how much they talk! It makes no sense to cut off Milkis and claim it would have been unreasonable for you to cut off Alex, it doesn't make any sense

Wasn't the whole point so we could see EG's side of the story? I agree Alex rambled on and it was annoying he couldn't just keep it short and concise but admitting EG should have gone through the TSL coach, I fail to see how wheat was being biased by letting us hear EG's side of the story, if anything it shows wheat didn't do a great job at moderation, but not really bias
but i had the feeling before the show, that Alex could give everybody a million dollars and it was going to derail anyway, nobody is ever happy on TL, its a new witch hunt, different day.

I don't know why you're even responding to anyone in this thread past your original statement. That was all that needed to be said. Anything after that will just get ripped apart and turned around by "the internet" crowd. Just leave it at your statement, and move on to the next thing. Don't worry so much what the mob thinks.

I beg to differ. I found it absolutely neccessary to touch on the business side of things. Some may not want to hear that things don't go all that well for everybody in the KR SC2 scene. That while SC:BW may have been romantic and all that, players living off of trust etc, but at some point it just does not work. That there is money available outside of KR, that tries to get into it.

I made plenty of mistakes while moderating. And I thought everyone (including Milkis) wanted to hear AG's side of the story (which we got plenty of - and I for one was happy to learn new details about the deal/approach). As that topic began to close and somehow we got on the topic of "how do teams do business", I quickly realized that I was pretty much fucked.
Why?
Cause Milkis admitted that he has basically no knowledge of eSports out of Korea.
So suddenly, I'm sitting here going, well fuck. How in the fuck do you let two guys argue over something will OBVIOUSLY take two VERY DIFFERENT paths. I don't even think Milkis knows that EG has contracted Street Fighter players, etc, and I'm not sure Alex realizes just how deep Milkis' BW roots go.
While everything started out great, I felt like we were suddenly going to take a bad path because we were now arguing from two different perspectives. I did the best I could to balance out the topics and speaking time as much as I could, so I agree I failed there.
However, I want to make a comment about the people who said I cut off Milkis at the end and that they have "lost all respect for me". I DID NOT WANT TO GO INTO THAT DISCUSSION (about the responsibilities of a member/journalist on TL) PERIOD. I even said on air that this was not an appropriate place for this discussion... HOWEVER, I do agree with some things that Alex said on that, and to be fair, it's not like he's the first person to say it.
I was not cutting off Milkis because I was "defending AG" or that I was just trying to be a dick... I was simply trying to stop all discussion on it. Because I didn't want to deter away from the topic at hand. I don't care if it made me look like a dick, cause I feel like I probably saved both of them from going down a road that neither of them wanted to go down.
What I was extremely disappointed with was the fact that he related it to this article, and I didn't think that was appropriate. THAT IS WHY I CUT IT OFF. If you interpreted that as me fucking over Milkis, well then I apologize (especially if Milkis feels that way) - but honestly, it was NOT the time nor place for that discussion so I stopped it. I will take the consequences of doing so like a man, but I feel like I made the right decision.
I think people feel you didn't treat them equally, not only in the journalist thing (if you did it to avoid going deep, it's fine). To me it felt like everytime Milkis had a doubt or just a not very fluent response, you cut him off. And given that a lawsuit shines in this matter, you should have allowed Milkis more (time at least) to explain himself as he has more trouble to do so.
It felt like battle was not fair and the referee was not going to allow a "surprise" (terrible example, I know ^^)

you shouldn't overreact... I mean you definitely didn't do a good job this show and it was easily visible that you weren't comfortable at all but it's mistakes one learns from. And those few posts of critique shouldn't really harm you... I mean consider what happens to pro-gamers when the underperform on those forums (or even worse on german e-sport sites).
I think the biggest mistake was to invite 2 so uneven persons, this is just a hell to moderate.

Real rough show to run for you wheat, went decently I guess. Props for setting it up and giving everyone a chance to get some viewpoints etc. Going to be hard to moderate for you, and gonna get som flak from someone anyways. Keep strong dude, love the shows overall.

i dont think a moderator of presidential debates could keep alex on track, on message, and terse.
that man is too strong at talking for just one host and translator with his first podcast experience to take on. I don't like how alex does his business, but he is very good at it.
This episode, unlike all the past ones, was almost impossible for wheat to control. I know he was trying to hear alex out in case he ever got to the point, and alex is really good at dancing around the point so he's almost there but never actually addressing it.

djWheat is employed by EG, who honestly thought he would be an impartial moderator? Why was a simple translator pitted against EG's head spin doctor to begin with?

People are saying this because they thought you handled the situation badly. I sort of agree with them, you definetely could have done a better job moderating, especially in the later stages of the show. You should take that criticism and try to improve for next time a similar situation occurs, you don't start like you did writing that post.
I personally thought you did do a poor job in the end there, especially when you seemed to feel more comfortable cutting one of the two guests you had off. Imbalances like that becomes VERY apparent in a show of that nature. If you feel any pressure regarding your ties with EG then you probably shouldn't do a show with EG business involved.
I wouldn't look too much into the painting of yourself. If you handle the next situation better, this isn't gonna stick around for long. You said yourself in your previous post that you made mistakes in your moderation. Well, some people feel very strongly about those mistakes made, thats just the way things work.

JP didn't cop this much flak during Tyler and IncontroL's spat over EG Masters Cup on SOTG, but he did get frowned upon for not stepping in and cutting things off when that was turning a little ugly. It's a tricky spot to be in and I don't think anybody envies the position.
You better not be throwing in the towel though, man.
