sigh, yeah it's the same guy. He forged over 800 records from 2 IPs lol :p

Appear to be proxies though so that's probably pointless.

EDIT: To those wondering how the attacks happened:

The updater uploads data by sending a POST request to starcraftrankings.com/input.php with the players in the division (as well as a version number for the updater). This is unencrypted and trivial to forge.

hitting starcraftrankings.com/input.php?version=4&data=Gibybo.gibybo,9000,999,0 (with a POST so not your browser unless you make an html form with the POST method) will insert Gibybo.gibybo with a rating of 9000 and 999 wins 0 losses.

Further, hitting starcraftrankings.com/input.php?version=4&data=<img src='goatse'>,9000 etc will insert that image in place of my name.

The second one is a little emberassing since I wasn't escaping characters like I should have been, but the first was intentional because I just wanted to see how long it would take before someone did it. They will be encrypted from the next versions of the updater onwards as a trivial fix to spoofing the data.

i think that any reporting done on player names shouldn't post the second identifier. Like when i see qxc, or TLO, i know their names and chat with them

so instead of qxc.root, i only see qxc

i can also pester them while they are busy competing.

lack of DnD isn't nice, so how bout a little privacy?

just a suggestion, that i think would do a great good for now (and perhaps in the future), in which only players Avatar names are displayed (instead of the dot ident).

since there has been countless amounts of times when im watching a game and a player gets messaged, or spammed.

again, i don't want to sound rude. but hey. if i was a top plat player, i wouldn't want everyone to know my ident, unless i say so. and honestly, this is a problem with blizzards ID function, and not related to the amazing work your doing with the ladder system

When you set yourself to busy/away you don't get messages during games. The messages are still received but you only see them when you leave the game.

Edit: Forgot to mention this rankings page is also not the only way to get someones identifier. They've been posted in countless threads with brackets for a tourney. If an idiot wanted to really spam someone over and over again they'd do it. There is a "block communication" function in the friends list for a reason.

I'd vote against this. I think if you're popular enough to have people stalk you (like movie stars for example) that's just something you have to live with. I for example like looking at popular players' match history, which would be impossible to do if I don't know the player's in-game identity. Blizzard could make life easier for the famous players by implementing spam filters etc.

this only sometimes works (i don't know about the newest patch).

day9 was casting a game (forgot which one), where the player logged off then back on and set status to busy.

yet he still got messaged in game.

if this has indeed been fixed, then i guess i don't have any problem. but i still find it a bit nerving that i can go look up anyone top in the ladder and talk to them at any time, and perhaps even spam them.

I very much dislike the secret identifier system in the first place. First of all, it's not really secret because you can get someone's identifier by looking at their ladder division on Battle.net, getting a message from them, or playing them in a game. It's really just an inconvenience to players that want to lookup other players and a way of endorsing impersonators.

I think it's a key feature of starcraftrankings.com that I can find someone's full game name and look up their profile if I so wish. I'm fixing Blizzard's ladder system as well as their broken identifier system at the same time!

If people are getting harassed because their name is public, then that is a failure of Blizzard's privacy features, not of a public ladder. Remember that ICCup, Wc3, and countless other competitive ladders provide the player's full game name and it wasn't a problem.

With that said, I might consider letting players change their own display name by request.

So I am getting


Error: No players found
Error: League not detected
Error: Division not found, this may fix itself after playing a game

when I try to update. I have the eu-uk client and try to scan eu plat division 20. Have had that problem forever, but I want to see my ranking and it's very obsolete.

Awesome idea, hope u get everything working some criticisms.

1. My name is not included and neither is the guy that just beat me so I assume a lot of people are still not included.
2. When I try to use the program it says Error: No players found so I guess it doesn't work with new patch
3. Rank 6 is 14-207 so there's still cheaters
4. The division list only goes down to 100

This is more then likely because wins are stored in more then 1 byte or whatever, so if the player has > 255 wins it doesn't work. Safe to assume that record is probably more like 269 - 207.

Anyways, in other news I've finally updated http://sc2ranks.heroku.com to use all the new data (region, leagues, etc).

It now has global ranks, region ranks, and division ranks.

I'm going to have to setup some background jobs (and hence, paid hosting) if I want to keep history data and updates running smoothly which means it's gonna start costing me money. Not entirely sure if I want to go down that road.

Keep in mind if your using the search fields (division, race, min rating, player name) that your results are also filtered by your navigation selections (Region & League).
