Just wanted to leave the feedback that I really liked the daily's where you played the build out yourself. It was really helpful to watch the player's view as the build developed (even though it wasn't a real game situation).
This, my friends, is the power of the Shikyo Memorial for QQ therapy thread. We make the world a better place, one chainsaw massacre prevention at a time.

well, I guess it's because you rarely see any top-player do it AND day9 didn't actually "CAST" a game - I think much of the suspicion is due to the fact, that day9 obviously couldn't find any high-level-replays that showed exactly what he wanted to show; normally when he tries to make a point about strategy he demonstrates it using a high-level-replay

now of course that doesn't mean it can't be done; but the main reason why people are not trying to "get a lot of stuff" as protoss is, that the "lot of stuff" by the terran-player is stronger than "the lot of stuff" by the protoss-player; I don't want to talk balance here, but marine/marauder with stim and concussive-shell simply wins against any EQUAL food army of protoss-gateway wo tech; that's a fact; therefore you definitely have to pull probes to survive the timing push; the main reason for this is, that stim and concussive-shell are so ridiculously cheap; together they are 150/150 which is cheaper than eg. only charge (200/200); this means, the terran can boost his army with useful techs while having "more stuff" in the end than the protoss-player;
now if I have a disadvantage right after the very early stages of the game, it's pretty understandable that many players are very reluctant to expand; because (again this comes from day9) you should expand when you attack OR have an advantage; but expanding right at the time when I'm the most vulnerable seems very counterintuitive

against zerg on the other hand you see many protoss-player expanding pretty fast; again why? because here it's exactly the opposite: a protoss-gateway-army works great against pretty much everything the zerg can throw at you until midgame

again I'm not saying protoss-fe doesn't work; I'm just pointing out, that the FE will be thrown down exactly at the time when protoss has the biggest disadvantage in any battle; early midgame is the worst because later on you can use forcefield to trap the marauders and keep them from kiting; but early midgame is exactly when stim+concussive-shells are the most devestating

you are completely missing the point.

then please, enlighten me

I've really tried hard to explain, that my suspicion has NOTHING to do with fast expanding; I completely got that day9 tries to bring people to the point where they see that an expansion that is up and running is worth much more than 2-3 extra units and a 50/50 shot at ending the game; because the expansion will increase your chances of winning much more; I think this point is very valid and too few of the top protoss players (especially in europe/US) try to find timings for expansions; yesterday I did and failed miserably.....finishing my day with something like 10-15 lol; but then again I'm just low diamond; nevertheless it will be crucial, especially since more and more people have (obviously) figured out how to prepare for the toss-tech-timing-push;

what I meant was that day9 indeed did NOT just say "expand early" but said "get a lot of core units like zealots/stalkers" - pleaso don't mix these two things up! I have never questioned the intent to bring people to develop strats for early/earlier expansions (at least I didn't mean to); I am just curious why day9 seems to dislike units like the immortal or the void ray so much;
+ Show Spoiler +
yesterday I won against a pretty good terran by building two void rays, flying them directly to his base while fending the attack of from two gates + probes while using FF on my ramp to my advantage; the two void rays killed COUNTLESS scvs and allowed me to safely expand and macroing up from 4 gates while teching to templar; nowhere near all-in, the void rays are supposed to buy me time to expand at a point in the game where terran is at its strongest

I don't wanna be misunderstood on this point, because otherwise ppl will think I'm an idiot; clearly there's nothing wrong with trying new BOs that lead to a stronger economic play; I just don't understand why it has to be either economic-style with mass-gateway-units or one-basing with tech

awesoooooome. Day9 on euro times.

I will have to secure my seat to the floor and put straps around my ankles and wrists to brace for epic. This will probably make people think I'm electrocuting myself but it'll be worth it.

It mostly just features a Baneling Bust, which is an all-in-ish move by the Zerg. The double drone harass in the beginning seems to me to not be worth it, I'd much rather have the extra drone at my base mining.

was wondering why day9 would hotkey his warpgates since you can also use W. or is it just a habit from BW?

It's to make sure he doesn't miss units, warping in every time he can.

Is Day[9] having financial issues? I am sure so many fans would love to donate a small amount to thanks for the countless hours of Dailies and other good stuff.

1000 fans, 5 bucks each. Should help.

?

How does hotkeying help compared to W? W basically is a built in hotkey for all your warpgates.
My guess is that it's a habit from broodwar, used to spamming 1/2/3/4/5 but not W.

Don't be put off because day9 doesn't use it, I think W is almost certainly better, frees up an easy to reach hotkey.

That's what I'm thinking. If just like 10% of his fans donate like1$ every month, he could go to chipotle every day . We should convince him to setup some possibility to donate or buy a shirt or something.

Does anyone know the name of the song that Day9 had playing at the end of Episode 167 (Morrow vs Idra) when he was doing it live?

its been bugging me pretty badly.

also sorry if this was asked/answered, but my searches returned no queries.

I don't remember which is was for sure, but check out Blue Sky Black Death's "Movements". I also discovered this from a recent Daily, so it might be the same one you have in mind.
