Basically it just "feels better" to him to have them on a hotkey. I do the same thing because I like having my buildings on sequential hotkeys instead of having to remember that for one set of buildings I need to hit the W instead of a number.
Not a game changing difference, just personal preference.

Just watched the daily from this Tuesday when he talks about fast expanding in PvT... An awesome idea, if you forget the fact that 99.99% of Terran players seem to go for marauder/marine all-in kind of rush that's really difficult to stop even on one base.

u also hotkey ur gates so u can turn them into warpgates once they r complete it makes sense ~ blizzard should remove this W global hotkey because many top toss users still hotkey their gates for this reason.
on top of it i think they think it "feels" better like day9 is saying aswell

i was fooling around with offrace 2 days before this daily and been doing this exact thing, and also going for the nexus before gateway build which can actually stop these pushes aswell, well not reaper tho but its still the same idea
the tech tree slows u down as much as the nexus does, kinda~ so it should work out fine imo. im expecting more players to do this in the future
i didnt have any concrete testing with it yet tho with actually top toss players. all i got behind my back is offracing and ladder on mid diamond xD

I agree that it slows you down just as much as teching - and perhaps even less - but it also spreads you out a lot, which is the main problem I have with it, mostly because of concussive shells. I can't hit and run efficiently because of the cc and if I wait for the four gates to kick in I lose the pylons around the expo immediately and at least some probes as well.
P.S. I dunno, maybe this strategy is a bit too advanced for my skill level (900-1000 diamond) but I watch a lot of games by top players and they seem to struggle the same way vs T early pushes.
|
would this apply to TvT as well? Instead of the standard 1:1:1 ... just get a quick CC before 2nd gas and tech a bit later for a better economy? i guess as long as the opponent doesn't get a critical number of tanks defending shouldn't be too tough with just MM.

I just recently hit diamond (~600) so I suck, but this fast expand idea that day9 put in my head really works out pretty good. Had some trouble with a fast reaper + bunker rush because my scout was delayed. But apart from that its pretty solid.
I was looking for a way to break off from one base play and this is pretty good.
Also, as always good fun to try new stuff.

There's a bit too much theory crafting going on in the dailys for my taste currently. It's fair enough showing these builds, but I'd rather see a series of ladder games and a description of your thought process than build order testing.

He's doing that tonight.

Well that's probably the thing. SC2 is a month old, so there's still going to be theory crafting for quite a while. When things become more solidified, I'm sure Day9 will have less of it too. But it's not all too bad...
I'd rather everyone play more creatively now, and even later than have solidified builds. I guess I can say that's the nice change in SC2 where we can see all of the units (At least for now) be used in different ways. Nothing's kind of left out like the scout, or something as rare as the devourer in other games.

No they shouldn't. For me (and i'm sure for other players) it feels a lot easier to use the W key. And it also frees a hotkey button.

yeah, the other night was okay. but when I saw him playing an easy computer again last night, I tuned out. I'm not a noob, day9.

Didn't day9 mention CauthonLuck always going for this sort of Macro-build? I think might have won all of his TvTs at MLG Raleigh, so it should lend validity to this sort of build. However, he also said that CLuck has pretty much forced this build to the point it would work his whole time playing, so it may require lot of time and refinement to use properly.

No more dailys with day[9] playing against the AI please
|
oh my god, that's SICK! After watching the PvT episode I'm no more down and depressed when paired with terran and I enjoy the matchup the most now! Thanks Day9!
Although this might sound ironic, it really isn't. Maybe it's the BW feeling I got after just MASSING zzzzzzzzzzzz and sssssssssssss from XX gates, expanding, adding storms later on.. but I recommend every P to give it a try.
And please please Day9! Cover this strat in some of your next dailies! With some real games against skilled players. Would like to see how you defend against early harass or banshees.
<3

Thanks for the awesome Dailys Day[9], ive tried this macro style build with protoss but i seem to have trouble against banshees and early bioball and sometimes both combined with an added viking to kill observers, could you do a daily on how to counter these plays? Thanks for your epic shows keep up the good work
