I finished all of the brutal missions to get the Kerrigan icon this morning.
What do you guys think the hardest mission was?
I don't think I had any trouble with most of them but the mission called "Engine of Destruction" was like insane hard, took me about 20 restarts to complete that one, eventually I ended up building an army of ghosts with the permanent cloak upgrade to complete it.
The final mission "All in" was pretty hard too, kinda regret destroying the spire and not the nydus worm in the previous mission, pretty sure Nydus worm makes it much much harder.
The mission "In Utter Darkness" took me a few tries to complete, kept getting to 2200 or so then getting killed, eventually replayed from the start and made an army of 3/3 Voidrays with only very few ground units, spent the vast majority of my minerals on cannons. Seemed to work ok.
What was your hardest mission?

Nydus worm on final level is extremely easy. But air is also easy once you know what to do. The most difficult was supernova. Once I discovered that there were bottom expos, it was a piece of cake.

Engine of Destruction by far. It felt impossible until I learned the trick (mass banshee/viking/sci vessel).

What one is supernova again? The one you gotta run away from the fire?

all in easily for me, didnt learn about thors stunning kerrigan until after i finished it, quite frustrating took me like 7-8 restarts
engine of destruction was problematic too, i ended up going mass tanks and ~20 scv repairing for that one
|
"All in" definatively, mostly due to some bad tech choices during the campaign, hard to fight off mass broodlords coming from just about everywhere when you spent all your credits on improving infantry, base and dominion.
Also forgot to put up Planetary Fortresses which led to my wall of bunkers+turrets getting broken a few times prompting a reload with frenzied SCV pre-repair movements
Other than that there were a few rough ones but nothing really exceptional, mass marine medic for the starter missions and just using mass air for the rest except the train mission (diamondbacks) cleared everything with relative ease

I'm reading about the strats for "All in" now.
Nuking or Stunning Kerrigan definitely sounds easier than my method.
I had 2 factories and 2 barracks spamming tanks and marines with SCVs building bunkers constantly and battlecruisers picking off the nydus worms as they appeared. Took me a good 10 or so restarts to complete it though.
Heard about planetary fortress spam being very effective too but I had taken the other upgrade for the command centre.

engine of destruction by far! I played on brutal and never needed more than two tries on any mission. but I tried engine of destruction like 10 times and never made it through the third base. so i just skipped that mission. maybe it felt that hard because i didn't have banshees/SVs (not sure about vikings) when I tried, but it was still the most frustrating mission of all....
|
engine of destruction is easy if you wait until BCs
also, for all in kerrigan has a hardened shield type thing so stimmed marines are the fastest way to kill her
|
All In for me. Engine of Destruction comes second. Respectively 6 tries and 4 tries to complete.
|
I don't know if it's the hardest, as I'm only a few missions in, but Outbreak on Brutal was amazingly fun.
+ Show Spoiler +After the 5th night I had mined out all the minerals, and had 21 buildings left to destroy. I held off the Zerg onslaught, was only able to kill 17 buildings before night fall again. I made my last stand on the ramp by the sensor tower in my base, lifting all of my buildings and placing them at the bottom to create a wall. When day-break came I had 35 guys left, zero buildings (except that lone sensor tower) zero SCVs, and zero minerals, but I was able to finish off the last four buildings and save the day. =)

The fire wall level is pretty damn hard until you realize you can let the fire do all the work. All In (nydus version) without thors/nukes went down to the wire for me. Had to restart like 5 times and almost lost the artifact on my final attempt.

Well I guess it may vary from person to person but I disagree. Most levels just took 1 try, and a few took 2 but "All In" (and I chose to take out air) took me several times to beat (on brutal obv.) Really surprised that anyone would describe that as extremely easy and somehow have trouble with any of the other levels.
The one where you have to destroy the protoss rip fields I knew I was kinda screwed so i just suicided and flew straight into the protoss to yamato the artifact container with my 12 bcs and it worked. Then the cut scene shows the dropship picking it up no problem which I thought was funny.

Engine of Destruction for me, because I was stubborn and did it with hardly any tech. I didn't have any starport units except for the medivac, so all I could do was mass wraith and micro. It took me a few hours and many many reloaded saves to finally beat it.
I expected All In to be harder, but I actually had an easier time with it on Brutal than I did on Hard, since I had a better idea of what I needed to do. I walled the sides with Perdition Turrets, put down a couple Psi Emitters and 6 tanks on each side, plus a bunch of SCVs to repair. Then I just massed Banshees, which I used to kill nydus worms and kill Kerrigan. Banshees can dodge her storm pretty easily, so I only lost a few of them every time she spawned. I spent most of the mission at 190+ food.

All in with air. (eliminated nydus). I didn't have a single bunker or turret upgrade and no aoe vikings(had range though). God, it was hell.
|
In my opinion, Supernova was the hardest, followed by In Utter Darkness, followed by All In (nydus, didn't play air version), followed by Engine of Destruction.
Supernova seriously took me like 5 restarts and 15+ loads.
In Utter Darkness took me like 5 or 6 restarts, All In and EoD took 2 and 3 restarts, respectively.
|
The secret mission was hardest for me. I beat Utter darkness in 1 try. I just massed collossus and stalkers and held off til 3k. The All In level was difficult but I abused save and helped me save time.
|
I found supernova to be the hardest by far. In the end I just 'cheesed it' with banshee/viking up along the top of the map. Took out phoenixes and the prisms powering the cannons and then killed the target with banshees, basically skipping the whole level.
Other than that, all-in was hard but the rest were pretty straightforward.

What's this about letting the fire do the work? Do you just build fliers and keep them out of the Toss's way but directly ahead of the fire wall?

Definitely supernova, fucking templars storming all my banshees 5 times in a row. That mission made me want to kill myself.
