That's not going to calm down the conspiracy theories. Do you suspect them of being pro-France? Or pro-Morocco? Or just whatever the outcome is, that was what the Infantinati wanted to happen?
I don't suspect anything at all, but people are insisting that FIFA and all the refs want Argentina to win, so having Argentinian officials reffing the favourites' match is likely to stir things up is all i'm saying.

It’s errant nonsense, it makes almost no sense. If FIFA wanted to rig things why Argentina and not say, England? A wealthier nation salivating for a first prize in like 62 years, with by far the wealthiest domestic league in the world. Seems a good candidate if you wanted to fix it for anyone. Or FIFA, lead by a European favouring another European candidate might also makes sense.
I’m sick to my back teeth of this fucking bollocks every international tournament.
Watch the fucking football, enjoy it or don’t. There isn’t perfect officiating but there never will be with football. Mistakes don’t equal some intentional conspiracy
PS Jock my rather aggressive posturing here isn’t remotely directed at you, indeed I believe you largely share my position on this.

After the thriller that was Argentina-Egypt, Colombia and Switzerland are doing their absolute best to put all the neutral spectators to sleep.

You're right I shouldn't indulge it, but the Forest forum i'm on has like 90% of the people on it going on about all the ref calls being in Argentina's favour so I can't get away from it lol. But yeah, you pretty much summarized my position on it here.

Isn't the conspiracy that they're propping up Argentina to keep messi in it and isn’t it mostly fueled by Ronaldo fans who somehow have a hard time accepting that he is only the second best player of his generation?

You clearly mean third best after Zlatan and Messi? (I am just joking)

If you're inclined to believe FIFA favours Argentina the angle is quite obvious. They have Messi. Especially last world cup when it was the only prize he didn't have yet and it was potentially his last attempt. FIFA does itself no favours dispelling theories like this after the Balogun bs.
Regardless of FIFA favouring Argentina or not they certainly have a lot of important refereeing decisions going their way. The disallowed goal vs Egypt, Messi not getting a red card in the first match, parades shooting a ball at the Dutch bench and not getting any punishment last world cup are just a few that come to mind.

i dont agree with the decisions against egypt being unreasonably in favour of argentina. the foul on lisandro martinez was quite clear in the build up to the 2nd goal. i dont see how theres any ambiguity about that being a foul. there might be a question about how far you can pull a play back, but as far as im concerned the moment the foul occured leading up to the goal was all one phase of play so seems fair that it gets ruled out.
the "foul" on salah is another moment egypt is crying about, and theres absolutely no penalty there for me. salah was dispossessed and no longer in control of the ball. their feet make minimal contact in an effort to reposition themselves and salah makes a show of it because he knows hes already lost control of the ball.
i dont see how either of those moments are controversial at all tbh

We have quater finals now, what are your predictions?
FRA vs MOR -> Think France has this in the bag but it will be a good fight. SPA vs BEL -> Normally I would say Spain all the way but they didnt look so fresh and BEL had a great game against USA, still Spain has it I think NOR vs ENG -> Hyped for that game, England will have it in the end ARG vs SUI -> I cannot see the underdog win here without a miracle so Argentina will advance

I expect that and i think that is what will happen in the end.
However, Argentina didnt look fresh at all against the previous 2 opponents. If the swiss team manages a high intensity game, they might surprise there.
I also think norway's run ends here. As much as it was great defeating Brasil, England is currently a tier above Brasil's showing this WC.
Spain should prevail against Belgium and France are already warned about Morocco so they should be focused. If they take the game lightly there might be an upset but im not counting on it.
|
FRA vs MOR -> FRA are favourites but MOR are built to counter them. If FRA is not fresh, the game can get complicated. SPA vs BEL -> SPA, biased here but we are being rock solid so far. NOR vs ENG -> Coin toss really. ENG is not being consistent and NOR has enough talent to punish out of nothing. ARG vs SUI -> ARG is being terrible, 2 matches in a row barely avoiding PKs. SUI are unconfortable as fuck to play against. Not an easy game to predict. On paper, ARG goes through easily but "todays ARG"? I don't think so.

I mean FIFA favoring Argentina / Messi isn't really a conspiracy theory anymore after what happened with USA red card
I believe they are indeed trying to favor Argentina, but I also believe that Argentina's squad is not good enough for it to matter this time We'll see I guess
|
We have the president of FIFA saying publicly he was hurting each time Cap Verde scored against Argentina. CAP VERDE!!! Every non-Messi fan was celebrating their good game this world cup but Infantino said he was hurting lol
|
Infantino can think what he likes, he isn't on the pitch during the matches.

Predictions : FRA > MOR - it’s going to be a very difficult match, many of my friends who are living in France but from Morroco are trying to jinx France (shouldn’t work but you never know) Spain > Belgium - I think Belgium had good momentum with the dumb red card thing, while USA team choked because of it, so Belgium looked better than they are because of it. But Spain is playing quite a boring football that wins games -> they didn’t concede and they can score at least one goal Norway > England - difficult to predict, England looked scrappy all tournament long but managed to get through. Norway convincingly beat Brazil but Brazil has been overrated / bad for like 16 years already. I still Hope that Norway pulls through Argentina > Switzerland - Switzerland have the power of boring draws no matter the opponent, but Argentina is backed up by FIFA. Even without FIFA, I expect Argentina to be better than Switzerland so should be an easy win

Didn't Switzerland lose like two really important players due to injury so far? The one guy from Freiburg SC which I cannot remember the name. I envy Switzerland because they have such a good squad for a long time now.
