The whole point for them, particularly the American owners, was guaranteeing the revenue without having to qualify for the Champions League. If that's not a guarantee, why join when the EPL rights are so lucrative? i think the assumption is the super league will generate higher revenue because all of the worlds biggest teams are combined.

It's still a far better guarantee than trying to land top 4 in a league where there are 6 or 7 absolutely massive clubs and handful more that still have adequate resources to challenge you on a good season. I don't feel much sympathy for the colder cash grabbing moves in football, but I'd also hate to be the person who has to budget with the current UCL qualification rules.

Its actually much, much worse the way they've set it up. 16 teams from EPL? At least 3 of those will be in the middle of a relegation battle, just to have to travel to the UAE to get absolutely wrecked by PSG for no reason.

Lets say there's 20 teams in the "top league". Why do you think it'll be easier to avoid relegation battles if that is the best 20 out of, off the top of my head: those same 6-7 teams + Juve, Napoli, both Milans, Barça, Real and Atletico Madrid, Valencia, Sevilla, Bayern, Dortmund, RB Leipzig, PSG, Lyon, Ajax, PSV, Benfica, Sporting, Club Brugge, Anderlecht, Zenith, Spartak Moskow, Legia Warsaw, RB Salzburg, AEK Athena, Olympiakos, ...

You still need to have a pretty bad season to fail to leave some of the lot of Brugge, Anderlech, Zenith, Spartak Moskow, Legia Warsaw, Salzburg, AEK Athena or Olympiakos behind. You need to beat 3 of those rather than trying to beat 3 of the top 6 PL clubs. To get relegated, you really need to have a bad season. To fail to qualify to UCL in current situation, you just need 4 of your main competitors to be a bit sharper than you. That being said, I think relegation could happen. For that they probably have some nice parachute rules in place that are designed with big clubs in mind. It's not like getting relegated means you're playing against small clubs either, these are likely still massive clubs with massive market value there too. Edit: To be clear, I don't think it's without issues and risk, but I think a league where they get to decide a lot of the rules and details can absolutely give them more financial stability and better risk management. The people planning this may have limited appreciation for football, but I think most of them can smell the money quite alright.

A good way of minimizing risk and have better financial stability would be not buying 20yo players for fucking hundreds of millions of pound/euro or making long term contracts to circumvent financial fair play ... Nowdays its not about the sport anymore but about money and political white washing. This wont change with this new leage where only the richest of the rich already are able to play.
