Otherwise, we will be committing the same laughably horrible error someone did with the Kobe landing mechanics youtube video and used a few selected clips to make the conclusion that Kobe's career was shortened due to bad landing mechanics...
But yeah, there is merit to the basic analysis, and it could be looked into further.

IDK. but coach challenge in the last 2 mins will bog down an already slow pace at the end of games... I would rather a few mistakes. Tyen every game being slowed. Indeed. There was even a segment in a show, Inside the NBA if I remember correctly, where Kerr says that replays cost Spurs the 2013 championship. Kerr said that the review after the Ray Allen 3 allowed the defense to set. If it had gone as normal, Parker was ready to push the ball and would have gotten a much better shot to win that game and the title.
As long as the mistake in call/no call is not a blatant referee cheating or manipulation but is a result of understandable human error such as judgment call, bad angles from the referee, 50/50 calls. I think we can all live with that. Human error is part of the game, and uninterrupted end games will serve the NBA well. It will also allow smart players to rise to the occasion and make good judgment on the fly.

I've been waiting for this video this year. Usually he waits until they hit a slump to poop all over the Toronto parade after their hot start every year.
the Raptors bench is carving up lousy teams. its fun to watch... that said... the Raptors are 6-7 against teams above .500 with losses to a depleted Spurs team, Boston without Kyrie, and the Wizards without Wall. Jack Armstrong brought this up last night... the test of this team occurs from January 9th to February 1. Cleveland, San Antonio, Minnesota twice, Miami, Washington, and Philly. if Lowry keeps on playin' the way he has been playin' the last 3 games the Raptors are going to get their asses kicked. i see the Raptors have drawn the excitement of a couple of boxscore followers in this thread though. did you see that Alley oop from Derozan to OG? Derozan is creating more offense than ever. the alley oop comes right at the end of this clip. First time i've ever seen Derozan initiate an alley-oop. Looks like another weapon in the Raptors high octane offense. https://streamable.com/vysx8it really looks like the corner 3 is now a part of Derozan's game. its a tool in his toolbox now. nice to see. Derozan's 3 Point Statsstats say Derozan is 33% from 3. However, he has 3 half court heaves in there. Furthermore, throughout October and November Derozan was handed the ball with 5 or less seconds left on the clock at the end of a failed play. often , he'd heave up a suicide off balance 3. So, I'd say Derozan is better than a 33% 3-point shooter despite what the stat says. I think that 33% number will continue to climb. what you say about the Raptors is true. What's your analysis on why the Raptors are suddenly good?
i think it's really cool that they are getting good, i've always thought they are a playoff team.
|
welp, they've been a playoff team for years.
i would not say they are "suddenly good". i'd say they are somewhat better than last year. i think they are better than last year because JV, Powell, VanVleet, Poetl, Wright and Siakam are a little bit better than last year. Ibaka is better than that fat guy free agent PF that used to play for Boston. They miss Patterson, but he has been replaced by OG. OG keeps his mouth shut and does his job rather than bad-mouthing Casey on instagram. Right now, i'd say the OG of this year is slightly worse than Patterson of last year. Lowry is about the same as last year.
Derozan, again, got better this summer. His playmaking has incrementally improved every year for the past 5 years. Small improvements over 5 years add up. He finally has a 3 point shot. His defense is still weak. Derozan is better than last year.
Casey/Ujiri designed an offense with a higher ceiling/potential. the article posted by MassHysteria goes into some detail about WHY the offense is better. Specifically , the quote by Nick NUrse identifies a change they made in how they run plays.
Right now, I think they can beat Cleveland. However, I don't think that makes them an elite team. I don't view Cleveland as an elite team this year. Right now, the Raptors look like an Eastern Conference Final type of team.
We'll know more when the Raptors play some tough teams in January if they are an elite title contender.
|
i agree. What do you mean about by having a offense with a higher ceiling/potential? I read the article that you referred to but I think its kinda fluff. I dont see any actual difference, maybe its gotta do with the confidence or the advanced stats of the players?
i honestly think Cavs is still #1. Are you saying that Raptors are #1 only because they faced weak teams so far?
|
the offense is better because its a 2-headed snake. Demar and Kyle both can act like PGs and they can really force defenses to rotate and switch with their ball movement. They can create havoc for opposition defenses with their better ball movement. In the past Kyle has been the 1 and only play maker. Now 2 guys are playmakers. and, Demar now has a 3 point shot. This stretches defenses more.
Their bench line up is the same way. Fred or Delon can be the PG. and, Fred and Delon are both clearly better than last year. They're both completely interchangeable.
i believe Nemirick originally posted this video about the Raptors offense. + Show Spoiler +

Are you saying that Raptors are #1 only because they faced weak teams so far? welp, the Raptors are 24-10 and they are not #1. The Raptors have had a road heavy western conference-centric schedule so far. So its hard to get a read on exactly how good they are. we'll know in January though.
They are an evolving team. They are asking their longest serving veteran players to change their game and asking 1st and 2nd year players to carry an important role in the team. They are doing more than just "gel"-ing as a team, They are asking their players to change how they think and approach the game of basketball.
This is why i didn't have a wins prediction for this team. The Raptors have too many moving parts. Too much is changing for me to nail this team down.
Most of Cleveland's players will be basically the same players come playoff time that they were in late October. For the Raptors 2/3's of the team will be better than they were compared to October and still on a growth path come the playoffs. If Cleveland meets Toronto in the playoffs it will make for a fascinating series.
I'll take 1 example. The backup/2nd-string PG for Cleveland is Wade. For Toronto, it is Delon Wright. Wright's game is growing and evolving along multiple dimensions simultaneously. Wade? maybe he has improved his 3 point shot. that's about it. If Delon is fully healthy come playoff time he will give some guards in the east a rude awakening.

amazing analysis. You hit the nail in the head with Demar and Kyle sharing the PG position. They multiply the offensive threats and make it difficult for teams to adjust in a timely manner.
I think the Cavs biggest problem is that Lebron is not having complementary players that suit his playing style like in Miami would you agree? Do you happen to work in sports? You're spot on with the Cavs and Toronto match up and it's interesting.

nope, i made a report writer add-on tool for a piece of medical admin software called "Procura"; i live off of the royalties and product support requests. I'm ridiculously lazy. the report writer allows power-users to build their own reports. This saves money because they don't have to pay a database programmer to make custom 1-off reports.

that's awesome. i think it pays well enough for you to indulge in other interests. Do you also work on sports analysis? Because i mean you should based on the stuff you write here. What's something to look out for in this season that not very many are aware of?

look for Rubio, Dragic, and Waiters to break down in the 2nd half. Rubio and Dragic put in too many hard minutes in a big summer European tourney. Especially Dragic, he was far and way the best Serbian playing in the event so he was tasked with being the #1 scorer, primary ball distributor, and stopper defender. When Dragic arrived at training camp Spoelstra said his #1 priority for Dragic at the start of camp was to "not play basketball". WTF? Waiters has been in "pain management mode" with his ankle since day 1 of training camp. He was told surgery would be needed and elected against it. WTF?
Minnesota replacing Teague with Rubio doesn't appear to be a massive change for better or worse at first glance. Well Rubio intends on playing for his country every summer. Thibs made a ruthless and correct move by getting Rubio out of Minnesota even if Teague isn't an improvement.

why did Dunn take that 5th foul? turning point in the game, imo.

Mirotic and Harden should shave their beards today and start a 2018 beard growing contest.

More Harden shenanigans. He chicken wings Josh Harts arm and pivots and embellishes a "tangle" to draw a shooting foul. SMDH. Harden is a bitch for doing this and the ref is an idiot. He was right in front of them too!
