AFC is pretty open, every contender has big questions at important spots on their roster. Denver, Cincinnati, New England and San Diego are probably the biggest players.
I'll take New Orleans over San Diego in the big one. None of those teams can touch the West right now in the NFC. The Niners and Seahawks are more complete than any of those teams.
Cardinals are pretty fucking good too.

New Orleans' defense will surprise a lot of people this season. their front 7 is underrated and their secondary only got better with the addition of Jairus Byrd. Keep in mind they were fourth in scoring defense last year, ahead of both the Chiefs and Cardinals, defenses that got way more media attention.
Also factoring in the Drew Brees/Sean Payton factor with all of their young receivers, the Saints are going to be the team to beat this season.

The problem is that they're in the same division as two NFL superpowers and another team that has a defense with the pass rush from hell that is built to give the Cardinals fits. The Cardinals better pray that they get some better offensive line play this year, or Carson Palmer won't make it through the season.

haha, I didn't say the Seahawks are going to be bad this year, but I definitely think that the Saints are more balanced between offense and defense and that sets them up for success. they're a consistently top ranked offense and they were top 5 on both offense AND defense last season. also, consider their schedule. of their first 6 opponents, only one didn't pick in the top ten this year, and that's Dallas, who has a chance of being the worst team in the league. There's a potentially tough five game stretch at mid season, but after that is a bunch of very winnable games, on top of one of the best home field advantages in the league. New Orleans will be a top 2-3 team all season and is my pick to win it all.

This Mark Sanchez guy playing for Philly seems like the real deal. Look at that stat line

Ok so my leagues offline draft is officially over. I would like some honest thoughts on the team I assembled.
rnd 1: Matt Forte
rnd 2: Andre Ellington
rnd 3: Julio Jones
rnd 4: Keenan Allen
rnd 5: Micheal Crabtree
rnd 6: Brandin Cooks
rnd 7: Kyle Rudolph
rnd 8: Ryan Matthews
rnd 9: Tony Romo
rnd 10: Zach Ertz
rnd 11: Devonta Freeman
rnd 12: Trent Richardson
rnd 13:Ryan Tannehill
rnd 14: Matt Prater
rnd 15: Tampa Bay defense
I know I am weak at a couple positions. Most noticeably TE with Rudolph as my starter. A TE streak happened which took all the top TEs off the board right up to Witten being taken the pick before mine. I reached for Ellington, but no other RB seemed better in Rnd 2 than him with upside. Julio Jones is a bit of a risk with his foot but massive upside. Keenan Allen looks really good imo. I took Ryan Matthews in Rnd 8 O_O. How could I say no to a starting RB that late? Same with Richardson who I took in Rnd 12
I want to know, should I switch out TB defense with N Orleans before season starts? I pretty much flipped a coin mentally and went with TB. People picked defenses starting in round 8, and I didnt want to take a def/k till the last 2 rounds (which somehow I got Matt Prater???).
Edit: Some nice talent was left on the board. Noticeably Kendall Wright, Dwayne Bowe, Cecil Shorts, DeAndre Hopkins, Mike Evans, Hakeem Nicks, Jordan Matthews.
Anyone above that should be on my roster instead of who I currently own? Thanks guys, no one else I trust with advice outside of TL.

I don't think Tannehill is worth adding and Wright is going to be a stud. I would like to have a better handcuff than Tannehill anyway and since you don't have one, he's by worth rostering.
|
He was the best option left at QB. This draft went nothing like I thought it would. Defenses were picked early, a couple teams went with committee defenses even, QBs were snatched up quickly the middle rounds, somehow I got one of the best kickers even though 4 or 5 went off the board before I took one.
Should I get rid of Tannehill or Freeman and get Wright off waivers?
|
I'd drop Tannehill for now. Even if he plays well, which is a big if, would you ever have the balls to plug him in over Romo?
Your WRs are interesting. If Julio and Crabtree can stay healthy and have recovered from last year they could be good, and if Allen can improve upon his rookie season at all he will be extremely productive.
|
I agree, Id rather have Romo. Ok, when the commissioner puts up our teams on the league page I will try and snipe Wright off waivers. I dont know why I didnt grab him. I am currently listing Keenan Allen as my WR2 and Crabtree as my flex. Brandin Cooks will be my sub in and if he explodes (which I bought into the hype heavily) I will have a very good WR base. I know I missed out on the top receivers, but I didnt have all that much choice since I went RB -> RB in the first two rounds.

If NO defense is available I think they're going to have more upside than TB so I'd make that switch for sure. Hakeem Nicks should be a good waiver wire addition as well, he's got a potentially great QB in Andrew Luck, a pass first offense and he would likely be the number one option with Reggie Wayne coming back from injury.

Well 2 teams drafted 2 defenses each. The only reason I can think of is to trade later on for a good player. Nothing else makes sense. Reason I mention that is because I am not trading a solid player to move up with my defense. I have faith in TB to begin with because of the coaching.

What position were you and what's the scoring settings and roster size. Hard to say much beyond that but Imo is rather go for a top wr at two than Ellington. He's probably 12th best br or worse. Coulda had a top five wr and jumped on an elite te before everyone

Bridgewater looks pretty good.

Looks like Eli is aiming closer to 7% completion percentage rather than 70

This Viking-Cardinal game is pretty awesome for preseason. Wild finish. And Bridgewater looks legit.

Really excited with the QB's that the vikings have this year. makes 4 years of ponder hurt just a little less.

I picked #5. And I know I passed on good WRs for Ellington (top ones left were Marshall and Brown), but my nagging gut kept telling me to get him. WRs got picked like crazy. I even reached a bit for Brandin Cooks because of it.
edit:
Roster is:
1 QB 2 RB 2 WR 1 TE 1 flex (wr/te/rb) 1 k 1 def 6 bench
Scoring settings are:
Passing Yards 25 yards per point Passing Touchdowns 4 Interceptions -1 Rushing Yards 10 yards per point Rushing Touchdowns 6 Reception Yards 10 yards per point Reception Touchdowns 6

Sounds like a standard ESPN league. Some points now that I'm not looking at my phone and have a keyboard:
-I think Cooks is going to be a beast. I didn't know until recently that he was the Belitnikoff (sp?) winner from Oregon St. and the fact that the Saints went out to get him makes me think he's going to be a monster. He's a great handcuff for a Jones injury/Crabtree not living up to expectation/sophomore slump from Allen. -I don't really think you reached on Ellington if this is a 10 team league, that's about where he's been going ADP if I recall correctly. I like the guy a lot, but I probably won't be owning him in any leagues this year because I don't think I value him as highly as some people. -I stand by my Romo point, and that's a guy that I'm terrified is going to get hurt, but I think he's going to be good if he plays. The Cowboys hate running and with that defense, they're going to have to score a bajillion points to win. -I don't think you need a backup QB in a 10 team league if you have a safe guy (Rodgers, Brady (based on health, perhaps not ability), Manning, Brees) but I think you do or at least need to be cognizant of what's out there. If Tannehill was rosterable in your opinion, don't keep a second QB. If need be, you're going to be able to play the matchup game of guys at that ability level. Worst case, you pick up Orton if Romo goes down. Nobody's going to be owning him prior to an injury. -I see nothing out of Mathews this year, either due to injury or split time, so there's that. Still a better flier than Freeman. Why do you own him? Isn't Rodgers still there to backup Jackson anyway? Lots of bodies in the way.
For this being your first draft, I think you did quite well. Good luck to you this year!
