Well, looks like Blaine Gabbert is still about as valuable to a team as an outbreak of herpes. God help us if Kaepernick goes down.

Damn, the jets defense still looking solid

Johnny Football looks pretty good. The rest of the offense around him is playing like shit, but he seems to have some potential.

I'm doing my research for FFB right now and I forgot how much I missed this stuff. I either need to win my FBB title quickly or fall out of the race because I'm tunnel visioning on football now.
Can't watch the game, what makes you say that about Manziel?

Kellen Moore was looking like the best qb in that game until bobbling that snap. :/
edit: nope, still looking like the best qb in the game

Can't watch the game, what makes you say that about Manziel? He threw some really good balls, made good decisions, and had some nice runs. If his O-line, running backs, and receivers didn't shit the bed so much, he'd have a much better stat line.

I assume he was playing with the second team, but what makes us thing that Cleveland's O-line, running backs, and receivers aren't going to shit the bed this season? It seems like that's going to be the norm.

Interesting thing I came across in doing my FFB research: the Seattle defense might be worth the ridicule of your league-mates when you "overdraft" them. In my 14 team league, I had them as the 14th most valuable "player" last year, behind the likes of Knowshon Moreno and Josh Gordon, who are unlikely to repeat this year. Just an interesting note.

watched Manziel's highlights. he made some plays, but it didn't look like they gave him a particularly complex offense, I saw a lot of quick passes and him checking his first option on his progression before tucking it and running. that got Kaepernick to a Super Bowl, but it's not the best offense to run imo

In fantasy you should only be comparing players to those in the same position, the value of a player is how many more points they'll score you than a player in the same position you can get in a later round, or off the waiver wire.
The reason the elite RBs, Calvin Johnson and Jimmy Graham are generally top picks is because they are on average going to score so many more points than the 10th best player at their position. The difference between the top defences and the 10th best defences is much smaller, last year the Chiefs scored 216, the most of any defence, the Buccaneers the 10th best defence scored 140. That's a smaller difference between 1st and 10th than every position except K.
TLDR: The average fantasy player is going to way overvalue getting a good defence, you can pick up a decent one in the 2nd last round.

I suppose my league's scoring system is a touch different, and I play in a 14 team league. Seattle graded out as the 14th best player by replacement as you described (which is the method I use). Nothing to do with perception, I'd never take them in the first round, but they're serious value. Essentially, take at look at your league format and depth, and decide for yourself if they're more valuable in your format. They might not be, but in my league they are and therefore I thought I'd throw caution to the winds that they're worth a look.

Unless I can get a perennially solid D like the Seahawks or Niners in a decent round I always get my D's really late. The best and mediocre D's aren't that far apart in point spread, and in general they are very match up dependent. What I've done the last few years in FF is not draft some noob schmuck WR or RB in the later rounds hoping they are sleepers but instead draft 3 to 4ish defenses, despite my friends cruel chuckling. Often D's come out of nowhere to be very usable. Took the Chiefs D in the 14th round last year and they went on to be a top 10 FF scorer OVERALL for much of the fantasy season.

Ok one more question. You guys have been awesome so far. Should I draft more than 1 K/DEF? Do people usually just pick one each of those?
edit: also, would it be better to pick up K/DEF on draft day or just get players and pick up K/DEF after draft day but before game day?

I'm not sure that I'd take the Niners D in fantasy football. There are a lot of question marks in both the front seven and the secondary. The D line is pretty banged up. None of our starters from last year even played in the first preseason game because of injuries that they're nursing. Word is that most of them (other than Dorsey who tore his biceps) should be good to go come week 1, but one wonders. I think that the news guys are going to have to step up and fill in some holes. Dial and Carradine have looked very good so far, so the D line may be better than thought. The linebacking corps is a different matter. Bowman will be out most of the season. Aldon Smith is probably going to be suspended several games. The rookie and backup linebackers looked VERY green against the Ravens. They'll probably get better, but I'm not expecting the Niners D to shut down the middle of the field like they have in previous seasons. Lastly, there's the secondary, which could be a big problem. While the safeties are very good, the corners are suspect. With the injuries up front, I wouldn't expect the pass rush to be as good, which means that the corners are more likely to get exposed.
Long story short, I do not expect the Niners to win games with defense like they have before. Their offense is going to have to be much better. Fortunately, I think it will be given how loaded the Niners receiving corps is now and how good Carlos Hyde is looking. My only worry about offense is how thin the O-line is starting to look with various injuries and the Boone holdout.

I found out that my draft started at 7:30 Eastern time at 7:15 because I've been in the process of moving and setting up new stuff. Didn't even get to set my keeper because it was already locked >.>

They seemed quite middle of the pack in FFB last year, but who knows how much of that is randomness due to defensive touchdowns etc. that the Chiefs rode to the first slot.
