All the hate on him is way overblown. He's not great, but he's certainly a good starter in the NFL... And, most importantly, they have no immediate replacement available internally or in UFA. Besides, they can just cut him at any time if they do draft a mid round qb and he emerges.

I just can't wrap my head aroudn the hatred for him. The team's record has gotten better every year. He has gotten better every year and he's only entering his fourth season. Because of how they deal with contracts in the NFL, it's little risk.

he's a good starter sure - but can he actually take the team to the super bowl? from what i've seen, i'm inclined to say no. which is why i'm sort of confused by the numbers stemming from this contract extension. dalton's talented is limited and probably has peaked already.

however, that being said, i'll need to know the full details before making further judgment. it could be a kaepernick-like contract where dalton will have to work to earn the money. in that case, it should be less worrisome for the bengals.

Again, the main point is that even if they really didn't want him, the other option is to not resign him and...??? The team has made the playoffs three years in a row with him, and is coming off an 11 win season. If they don't resign him, they're back on the qb hunt for a few years, drop back to four wins a year, and piss away some of Green's prime seasons. The Giants have demonstrated before you don't have to be a powerhouse to win the SB. YOu just have to get hot at the right time due to the one and done structure of the playoffs.

also an article from today said it is modeled after kaepernick's contract

If it's like Kaepernick's deal, then Dalton's new contract is a pretty good deal for the Bengals. If it's a full-blown, multi-year commitment like most QB contracts, then the Bengals may have just hanged themselves. Dalton is average at best, and I just don't see him making another big step forward. It's not like he could ask for a much better situation to be in QB-wise. Great O-line. Very good array of weapons, including one of the best two or three receivers in the league. Fantastic defense to back him up. He's clearly the limiting factor on that team.

Yeah all these deals look massive but they seem to be heavily performance based. Can't seem to find any info on guaranteed cash for Dalton. He's an OK QB. His absolutely disastrous playoff games can't be unseen though.

I wonder how people liek Wilson and Newton feel about these deals. They might not get deals that are high in guaranteed cash but I bet their possible money ceiling is going to be insane...

20INTs as well he's not even at a 2:1 TD:Int. He's receiver dependent and he's leaning too much on jump balls. It's an unstable QB play. If he just cleaned up his play a bit more and played it safer they would win more games, that team is loaded everywhere with quality players.

Very good deal for Dalton because of the team control it provides. Decently priced too the way contracts for QBs are going.

According to Glaser, the NFL DID NOT see the Rice tape from the elevator. Apparently the ACPD never released it to them. I take back my defense of him in this case, I must've heard an erroneous report. I don't know what to believe anymore.
