Anyway, you are of course right that the weather was very likely to become an issue. Does the IOC not investigate the Olympic bidding cities before allowing it's own members to then bid on the best candidate? They did so in Toronto for the 2008 summer games, commenting that our transit needed work and iirc that the buildings were kind of ugly. My wording was bad, though. I know the IOC bids on the city that a country chooses, but it should have took into account the climate before allowing a major event that relies on snow for so many sports to go forward.

Unfortunatelly with this much land - not a lot of mountains where all the Olympic could be hosted. Also, its raining and extremely warm even here in Moscow (+5 today) when normal average temperature for these days is close to -10. Its just a massive heat wave that covered all the Russia/Europe. You don't mess with the weather

EDIT: knowing that individual race can be unpredictable; i'm looking forward for Fourcade/Svendsen and Domracheva/Berger duels in mass-start. That would be freaking awesome! So ... no competition for Domracheva this Olympics at all. I'm somehow convinced same thing is reserved for Mr. Fourcade. Russia, Germany and Norway didn't show up at all these Olympics. Germany is in decline in Biathlon Men despite their outrageous budget, while Norway just aren't on top. Kinda disappointing for the spectacle Russia and Germany have disappointed, especially Germany, but it's not over yet. You have to remember that in biathlon there are like 20 men and women fighting for the top 5 positions, and 30 fighting for top 20, so you shouldn't look too much into the results, as it's a lot about day-to-day form and shooting.
I'd say Norway has performed as expected so far in biathlon. 1 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze, and more to come in the team events. They should have a good chance in the men's mass start as well. Sure, going back to last season, Norway is a disappointment, but that's entirely because of Svendsen and Berger. The rest of the norwegians have on average been performing as expected this winter.

Lol, I just saw Vanessa Mae compeeting in the Giant slalom... for Thailand. That's not something you see every day

I told myself I'm not going to have any expectations for Canada's short track results today, just because there are already so many crashes. Then Charles Hamelin falls again. Nooo
Not to mention Marianne St-Gelais fell too, earlier.

Biathlon is a fucking disaster for Russian team. Even two gold medals in relay won't help. That is what happens when you have tha same amount of bureaucrats as coaches and sportsmen together. Honestly, I agree with a joke "quote from Stalin": "Those who don't win gold will go to Siberia to dig it"

Svendsen almost blew it -_- Celebrating a bit early.

What a finish, Svendsen with an almost disaster on the last 2 meters.

Women team had no chance from the start, there were no high expectations there, but Shipulin blew his only chance in the Sprint. After that it all went downhill, so no surprises. I actually don't expect any medals in relay races (well maybe a bronze in men).

Svendsen pulling a Kalla and taking the interior. Good Mass Start !

Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir scored 75.33, 3 points lower than their personal best despite everyone thinking they had a fantastic performance. Meanwhile the American team Meryl Davis and Charlie White scored a new world record with 78.89 despite a few small errors on the Americans part, and most pundits finding the Canadian pairs having a much more technical and stronger dance. I didn't exactly watch the icedance, but there was some smoke there before. Did anyone here happen to watch the Ice Dance? What did everyone think? Are people being biased? http://olympics.cbc.ca/news/article/alleged-olympic-vote-swapping-deal-would-keep-canada-from-gold.html?cid=rssI could never be a Figure skater, the pure fact that things can come down to the potential of this sort of thing really bothers me. Although I suppose thats my Starcraft background talking. Didn't catch the ice dance myself, but this video of Sid Seixeiro from Sportsnet590 explains that even the inventor of some of the moves popularized in the event believes that Virtue and Moir should have won the gold. He goes on to give a monster rant here: http://www.sportsnet.ca/olympics/tim-sid-ice-dance-corrupt-as-hell/Other key points he makes is that the same French publication that accused Lance Armstrong 11 years (?) before he admitted to doping, also said that the Russians and Americans made a deal that the former would win the team competition and the latter the ice dance at the start of the Olympics before it actually occurred. He also goes on a rant about how ice dance is a joke of a sport when it's so subjective and that sports like golf, baseball and even MMA, whose base is wrestling and rooted in the original Athen Olympics, can't gain Olympic status. I pretty much agree with everything he had to say. And yes, the American team has beaten the Canadians in the past Worlds but they seem to crack under pressure like Patrick Chan (who also had won the previous three Worlds and choked in the Men's) and were silver behind Virtue and Moir's gold performance in Vancouver. Why would the americans have to make a deal securing a gold for Davis/White if the pair have been unbeatable for like 2 years? And why would the russians have to make a deal to secure the team competition gold when they already had pretty much a sure gold? The canadians are just overvaluing their own talent, and they should quit whining. It's pathetic if you ask me. Of course, they can say that they think Moir/Virtue deserved to win, but it's pathetic how they act like everybody agrees with them.
As for Patrick Chan choking, he wasn't even the favorite, and Yuzuru Hanyu choked even more than Chan did in the free program. That gold was Hanyu's to lose, which he did, but then Chan handed it back to him.

german arrogance at work in nordic combination... german trainer: frenzel had to give up his lead from ski jumping, so the other 3 germans can close up to the top4...
Would laugh so hard, if they now blow it... Why does Frenzel sacrifice his easy gold just to give the others a shot? And now Frenzel is having a hard time
