People tend to attribute a lot of a defensive effort to the D-line but they forget that the entire defense works as a unit together. Peyton Manning, despite the outcome of the game, is exceptionally good at checking down his list of receivers. His average time from snap to releasing the football is 2.4 seconds. If we have a good D-line but bad pass coverage, chances are he can hit the quick slant or curl route for at least a moderate gain. Denver's YAC was also a significant factor in their offense throughout the regular season. Having great pass coverage also gives our D-line time to reach Peyton and makes any pressured passes a huge risk. Having great pass rush gives our secondary chances to take the ball away. If he does manage to get the pass off and his receiver gets it, our linebackers and LOB have to be good enough to punish the receiver immediately for trying to run up the middle. Basically our entire defensive unit was on point the whole game and created opportunities for each other. | ||
