All the euro teams kill penalties in this passive collapse in front manner. Canada is considerably more aggressive, in the lanes, rotating to cover for eachother, much greater pursuit of the puck. There were sequences there where all four Canadian skaters were in the one area of the ice. Its an interesting difference of philsophy; wanting to limit strong chances, and just wanting to take possession.

Yeah it resembles basketball, where in europe zone defence is popular while its not in NBA. By the way yesterday Russians tried to be more active on PK and you saw what happened. You really need to know how to play this style otherwise you'll fail horribly...

I think the zone style is a bit easier to pull off, but I think the man-to-man aggression is a little bit stronger when pulled off effectively. To pull it off though you need to have vision not only of your opponents and their seems, your teammates and their where-abouts, but you also need to outwork the other team with only 4 guys when they have 5. Its hard. Its something us Canadians are taught really early. I'd say that is a big difference in development between nations. Canada teaches kids to think the game, and creativity is an afterthought or an on your own time thing. Whereas stick skills and the like are the big focus of the European development systems. I dont know if one or the other is better, I suppose you could argue with the recent WJC's maybe the Euro way is stronger.

FUCK YEAH USA ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Quick came up big when it was needed late. JVR is a monster and that trade looks dumber by the day. Schenn is so mediocre. American defense and esp the pk was awesome against a very very scary pp. I thought the Russians played very well actually, and didn't do a lot of the dumb bullshit freelancing they did in their 2010 flameout. Radulov hurts my head as a player. So talented, but so stupid. On February 17 2014 00:18 iCanada wrote: No one was bashing all Russians. North America adores Datsyuk. Sub40APM perhaps, but no one else. I honestly do think Ovi's game has regressed though. He is no longer a dynamic player that just kills you from anywhere. He no longer has a strong passing game; he used to walk in, and if the shot was a bad choice he would make strong passes to trailers. Now he just shoots. Ovechkin has assist per 60 minutes numbers in the NHL similar to some really really awful players. Even worse is his 5v5 assist production; I think he has 2-3 all season. Given how he leads the NHL in icetime for a forward, that is horrifically bad. That assist production puts him in 4th line facepuncher territory in that regard. I definitely think he's regressed in that regard. I also think he was much stronger in his own end even just 2 years ago, but whatever thats just me. Washington as a team outside of Ovechkin is shooting at like 5% or something absurdly bad. It's not like they're scoring otherwise. That team as a whole has no one else scoring. Ovechkin is shitting out goals. The defensive commentary is silly because he's a winger and the only legit scoring threat on the team. His lack of defense would matter if he were a center and floating. He looked really good yesterday I thought. On February 17 2014 02:31 iCanada wrote: Wow. If that was anyone but Kunitz thats in the net. Yes. It's amazing this assclown is still playing and MSL sits. He exists because he's gooned it up in each game. This FIN-CAN game is really good. Finland always fields competitive teams no matter if they have injuries or not a ton of skill players any given year. They always look like they play together all year. Rask's been solid other than that first turd of a goal
