This was before my time but I still hear older folks talking about it at times. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stig_WetzellTimes and rules change I suppose. Anyway I don't think entire teams should be punished from one player fucking up outside the ice, and I'm happy with us destroying USA and picking up that Bronze rather than getting crushed in the final by Canada. IOC agrees with you. So now it requires two or more failed tests for team wide medal removal/disqualification.

I still think it's a huge overreaction for someone taking one or two too many allergy pills. Calling him a doper is pretty much bullshit IMO

Except its like really really unlikely that a world class athlete has the kind of major kidney issues required for 1 pill a day to show that kind of dose on "1 allergy pill".
I'm sorry, but I've seen this story a hundred times before. If he came out and told the truth and it was confirmed fine, but Armstro... A-ro... Bon... Backstrom has already went through 3 different excuses to shift the blame.
If he was telling the truth, why has he already changed his story? Why has the Swedish team Doctor changed his story? Why does the Finnish, Canadian, Austraulian Olympic Head Medical guys, and even several experts in sweden say that something here in the story doesn't check out?
Look, if everything comes out and Backstrom for whatever reason is the 1% where a test like this is wildly innaccurate because of other health issues, then I'll take it all back. But as of now, Backstrom's story doesn't really pass the smell test. He didn't even tell the IOC he was taking the medication in his pre-required registration forms, but supposedly he has been taking it for 7 years now? Yeah, cool story bro.

I know I can be wrong and that I might eat my words. And they won't taste good, lol.
But I'd say the Finnish, Canadian and Australian head medical guys and several experts in Sweden don't know their shit either. If it's a urine sample Bäckström's levels are certainly not extreme - he can certainly be telling the truth. That would mean he's accidentally doped and that IS a big difference from taking pure pseudofedrine.
Timo Seppelä for example, that's just shit coming from him.
I have to admit I'm embarrassed by this situation though and not really comfortable defending Bäckström anymore. But it's a bit early to call him a doper as well.
Anyhow, can you tell me about the changed story? Didn't see that in media.

Seems like the medicine can be used as an "upper" and is, or was, fairly common over there in the big league. From "Sportbladet" through a translator:
In a survey of Pseudoephedrine conducted by Sports Illustrated for the Olympics in Nagano in 1998 meant the then Colorado striker Jari Kurri, who took the medication, that it could be behind the ugly game in the NHL, and a lack of respect between players. - You take it and you get pumped up. I think the league needs to look at it, said Kurri. Montreal forward Mark Recchi also took the medication. - You get pumped up. Sometimes emotions run high on the ice, a little too much. Swedish striker Kristian Huselius, former player in Florida and Calgary, also certifies that the access to medicine has been large in the NHL. - When I arrived in the NHL in the early 2000's it was available to all. It was just to go and pick out of the medicine cabinet. Was there a lot of talk about tablets ? - No, but everybody took it in the open. There was nothing strange. When they felt tired they got energy and got up the pulse. Players used it for that purpose. Did you try yourself? - No, I never did. Did you notice any difference in teammates who took it? - I talked to players who used the pills. They thought it was effective, that they "woke up". And you could see that they got a little excited and aggressive.

i seem to recall "little jimmy raynor, the people's hero" repeatedly defending Yzerman and Babcock before the tournament... during the selection process and when Subban was not used. .. and even lauding Team Canada for its intelligent play and "high hockey IQ" at the very start of the tournament.
Yzerman has a good hockey mind.

The only person I've seen say anything remotely bad about Mike Babcock was Sub40APM, and nobody was saying that Yzerman was doing a bad job either, so...?

Go for it. In the meantime let me present YzermanFacts. Two prominent Swedes have had the same number as Yzerman - Markus Näslund and Mikael Renberg. YzermanFacts.

here are a few of the shots taken at the Babcock/Yzerman decision making team. as per your request.
there are several in the NHL thread that were made during the Team Canada roster announcement process. but, i'm too lazy to dig those up.

Not gonna lie. These choices don't make any sense...

and here is a random compliment from me.

in a whacky BO1 event i don't know how much better you can look. BO1's do not prove a lot, but when you did it the way Canada did it has more meaning.
when is the last time a team won the Gold without ever trailing? no idea. when is the last time a team went undefeated to win gold ? i think its USSR 1984... pros versus amateurs.
3 goals in 6 games. Congratz to Yzerman and Babcock.
Listening to the players who got the short end of the playing time stick will tell u a lot about what they think of Babcock and Yzerman.
i'll stick with my off-hand compliment of Feb 17 and add to it that it starts with the leadership of Team Canada and trickles down just like Reagan-omics.
the originator of this thread has littered it with american jingo-ism. in that same vane i had to make a ronald reagan joke.

Right Raynor, you want us to believe you're worried about some Swede's medal?
You just wanna bump this thread up so you can have another excuse to go on about Team Canada's gold medals.
WE GOT IT! Canada is great at Ice Hockey.. no surprise there PAL!
The way you and lamprey go on and on and on and on about it, you'd think you guys were on the team! You might make the girls team... as bench warmers!
