Did take a 4 day break from lifting and will record the session today. From the side aiming 45 degrees down, or looking at your feet from the top of your head aiming 45 degrees down.

The thing I hate about so many fitness discussions is that they seem to be mostly semantic arguments. So you need to explain what you think the exact physiological process is. What I suspect you think you are saying is that your body needs a certain surplus of fat to build muscle. What your backing of a bulking/cutting cycle is, though, is an assertion that you must be gaining fat at the same time as you are gaining muscle. This seems incorrect from the outset as many overweight people lose fat and gain muscle at the same time. If we assent only to the first statement and not to the second, then it's only a matter of determining what the surplus of fat should be. John Meadows thinks it's 12%. Do you want to go up to 15%? Fine. Do you really think you need to be at 18% or higher to gain muscle? We tell dieters that they should focus on a sustainable diet instead of yo-yo dieting. Why is lifting any different? You say that staying at 12% bodyfat is too hard, but you suggest that they instead bulk and cut where they could potentially screw up their metabolism?

Because John Meadows has never trained with or trained a person who is not on steroids, right? Again, the word games. No trainer is going to tell you you have to be at 18% bodyfat to gain muscle. So what exactly is your point?

If someone would actually respond to any of the arguments I made, I would just be tickled.

If someone would actually respond to any of the arguments I made, I would just be tickled. You're arguing with nobody. Nobody said become a total fat ass any time you want to get stronger, it's just easier to eat a bit in excess when putting on muscle rather than narrowing it down to the exact macros and training routine for your individual body to add muscle mass without putting on a bit of extra fat. I rather take the opinion of a) something scientific proven / peer reviewed or b) someone who deals with this in the average manner rather than a top tier body builder on steroids who's entire life revolves around their diet and exercise. Most people here are looking to move to healthy weight and add some practical strength along the way not compete in international bodybuilding.

12% is a fine bf to train at, but so is 14, 16, and even 18 given the proper context.

You also keep talking like a sustainable bodyfat % is unreasonable while suggesting that the average lifter do bulk/cut cycles- which is what bodybuilders do. Farvacola- Why are you comparing 12% to bodybuilders who are going down to 6-9% regularly?

No, but you do run the risk of killing brain cells and lowering your IQ by up to 10 points. If that seems worthwhile to you to get high once in a while, go for it.

I just think that if someone's going to make a decision about using a substance, they should at least know the possible side effects of it. George Leeman posted pictures of his back after he took something as *seemingly* harmless as testosterone and it caused some pretty terrible scarring. I think that weed is perfectly fine as long as you're responsible, but worrying about your strength should be an after thought.
