I'm pretty sure fellow TLers from Spain and Italy with 4-5 disallowed goals will back me up on it (though I'm not arguing Poland defeat against Korea in group stage - that was quite legit game and the result was the reflection of Poland being bad).

Fred (aka Frederick, Federico, etc.) seems to be common outside English-speaking countries. In any case, this is super not relevant. What a coincidence that Hiddink resigned an hour before Martino was appointed for Barca (even though he had a disciplinary problem with a referee recently). Or is it? ![]()

These are names that are pretty much common all over the world, and also did not originate in England. So it's kinda pointless to do what you're doing ^^ Also you don't seem to get it. You also don't seem to realise why it's amusing. We English don't expect Brazilians to be called Fred. Or Allan. Or Wallace. They are tremendously English sounding names. We expect Brazilians to be called De Souza Miracolos Golazo Pereira or something ending in -inho. They sound like a county cricket player. That is where the humour lies. And there is no humour in the concept of a brazilian called Maicon because that sounds pretty swarthy and dago-ish already. A Brazilian called Mike would be awesome. And @Twisted I swear dutch names are usually like Wim and Jan and Thijs.

I find it hard to believe that 'Fred' is a common name in Brazil. Although Frederico is, do they seriously abbreviate it to Fred? It sounds so...not brazilian lol. But I have not travelled that much I will admit.

Eh we'll see. I don't think we're gonna see much difference on the field. Maybe some new way to play the ball from defense to midfield, how he wants the wingers to act and other small tactical shit like that.

Gerardo Martino has emerged as the likely replacement for Tito Vilanova as Barcelona coach. According to widespread media reports in Spain on Monday evening, the Argentinian is set to be confirmed as the next Barca boss on a three-year contract following talks The 50-year-old led Newell's Old Boys to the Argentinian Clausura title last season but recently severed ties with the club. Barcelona have made no official announcement.

I'd love to see him there though, his presence could probably make the team play better and perhaps make the match a bit less one-sided in the process...

Bayern have undergone a lot more changes than Barca so far. Also it's pre-season and a rather meaningless match. This could go either way and in the end, nobody will really care. The cup will just be a way of testing stuff and seeing what certain aspects of the teams' games are at.
