I'd be pissed to see someone be crowned champion just because they had one better day vs the second place. Direct confrontation is stupid for a format which goes over more than half a year
If this happens, will it be the first time in Premier League history there has been a play-off?
Shame that it would happen at Villa Park though. Would be AMAZING if they had it at White Hart Lane. And I think they should have more of these playoffs. Imagine the intensity if United and City had to do a playoff last year instead of City winning the title on goal difference.

One game to win a championship, now that's something I'd like to watch.

So, what about our case here? Isn't it stupid? If Arsenal has ONE good day it will make them directly qualified for CL, and Chelsea will have to play 2 more games... Also your argument is bad, because the first deciding factor is POINTS. If both teams have the same amount of POINTS, they are already both deserving of the same spot. POINTS are already the 'regularity' deciding factor, how many do you need?... One team might play high risk high reward, the other one playing less risky but more with control; both would be equally deserving.
Also, I personally think that the direct confrontation rule would be more 'representative' of the supporters spirit. You like to have your team crowned champion, but if you are champion and you destroyed your rival, hell you're even happier. If you lost both games it feels really different... Like this year Barca is champion but we lost to Real in La Liga (which wasn't the most important game) and also in la Copa del Rey, so it feels 'different' than if we completely demolished them like the years before... Then people say you won the league against the small teams, etc...

Just like the Champions League and the World Cup?
To add some content, if Chelsea and Arsenal, or United and City, or whatever two teams play the same schedule, and have the same goal difference and goals scored, why shouldn't they have a playoff?
You might say "well Chelsea beat Arsenal twice." Yeah, well, Chelsea got six free points from Arsenal and STILL couldn't finish higher on the table than them? Not very convincing.
Not to mention the Chelsea-Arsenal games this season were very close.
Well it's not like cl or wc cause a)these teams have already met at least twice before and b)its a one game closure to a 38 series of games, unlike wc and cl which makes it all that more dramatic.
Chelsea beat arsenal twice as you said, so won't they feel "cheated" if they lose their spot now? It's the good sort of drama imo. It builds hype and tension.
@salteador can you translate the final's post game interview? must be hilarious

In this case the playoff is played instead of considering the 2 head-to-head games, so the result is the same: they had an equally good (or bad, depends of the point of view ) season and a head-to-head game is going to decide who has been better than the other one. Same thing as saying the direct confrontation difference is the one to take into account first...
I would be for a playoff but after every other factor has been considered. In Spain, there is even the 'fairplay' ranking (number of red/yellow cards) taken into account before they would organise a playoff. I just think the Championship format isn't really a Championship if at the end you have to play playoffs... It's probably more entertaining, but like said before we already have Cups for that...
Mou said: "A career is long. This is the worst season of my career, with only one title that isn't enough for a team like Real Madrid or for me. With a final, a semi final, a second place, and a Supercopa. For many coaches, it would be very good, for me, it is the worst".
"When the score is 1-1 and you hit the post three times, it's not normal. We should have won during the first 90 minutes, but we did not. We had two good opportunities during the added time, the result is unfair. In football, you can forget everything: the referee, the post hits... the history only remembers the winner, and today, it is the Atletico".
"I never hide. Sometimes I didn't come when I won important games. During these three years, I have always come to answer the press when my team lost. Mourinho has always shown up in front of you and in front of your peers."
"This season, I failed, because, the first season I feel it was normal to win the Copa, to be in the semis of the CL and to fight for the Liga. In the second one, it's considered a failure to win la Liga, to be in another semi in CL lost in penalties. The third one, with these results, is a failure. When everything is good, it's everybody's merit, but when things go wrong, it's the manager's fault. For me, it's my worst season. I have never ended up without any important title, because the Supercopa is 'few'."
"I have a contract for 3 more years. I have not met the president to discuss my future. I think it's normal to be talking about Ancelotti. There are also some people saying that I will go to Chelsea. There are still 2 Liga games, and I respect the goals of other teams like Real Sociedad and Osasuna (the next 2 games for RM). When it's over, the president and me will seat to make sure the supporter knows what will happen.''
(On Courtois): "It felt like they had a Saint behind their goal. Chelsea will make the decisions on his future". (On the red card): "I prefer not to say anything".
I didn't really listenthe interview, can't be bothered. Reading the highlights I love this part: "For many coaches, it would be very good, for me, it is the worst". Of course he forgets to say that the other coaches don't get a team that signed players for like 500M in the last few years lol.

Or that he beat barca with inter on pure luck. Meh.
Last matchday of the Bundesliga started 10 minutes ago, lets see who is going to be relegated and who gets the 4th spot for CL-Quali! Freiburg and Schalke are battling directly for the 4th in Freiburg, a tie would give it to Schalke, if Freiburg wins they are 4th! And BMG are already 2 up against Bayern lol Edit: nvm, 2-1 xD 2nd Edit: nvm, 3-1 for BMG rofl
How can you use the 'it's not about who had the better days' argument to discredit using head-to-head record tiebreakers if playoffs are precisely about who has the better day?
Oh, and can we agree that Mourinho's reign at RM has been a failure? 3 trophies in 3 years (if you count the super cup that is) isn't bad, especially considering last year's record-breaking La Liga campaign, but given how much money was funneled into the team and how much they wanted la decima, I think you can say with certainty that it hasn't been a success. I also have to mention that he's turned the team into a very special kind of sore-losers. From trying to kick their opponents off the field to serial divers, he's turned RM into a mess.
Jupp Heynckes would be a good fit for them, if he decides against retiring, that is.
Fuck me Hoffenheim may not be relegated directly and will most likely play 2 matches against the FCK for staying in the Bundesliga. Kevin Großkreutz is now the GK, since Dortmund subbed 3 times already and Weidenfeller got the red. Both goals scored after penalty. 2-1 for Hoffenheim.
Hummels may be injured. I hope he will be ok for the CL final.
As a Dortmund fan I'm really happy we can't lose shit today. Dominate Hoffenheim 75 minutes, get two penalties and a red card for the goalie against us within the next 6 minutes. Großkreutz now in the goal! Sadly that would mean that SAP Hoffenheim does go to the relegation match instead of directly down to the second league.
But: The fans make my headphones explode. Awesome.
