I has a funeral for my grandfather today. I haven't told anyone I know at school that doesn't need to know, so I guess you could say TL is the first time I've told anyone. I was a pallbearer, along with several of my cousins... and wether it was actually so, or it was in my head, that coffin was the heaviest damn thing I ever want to lift in my life. Every step of the way I was thankful for every single squat and deadlift I've ever done. Every drop of sweat ive shed these last months, every one of the fourty pounds ive put on. I think back now, and I doubt that if this had happened in august, I would have been able to stand here as a man amongst my family, and carry my grandfather to his burial.
Starting to get emotional again... but I will leave you all with a thank you. The confidence, the poise, he mindset I've earned from lifting has done so much for me these last months. I can't recommend it enough to anyone. And to all you who are already lifting... do your deadlifts. Even in a modern world, there are some things you're going to want to do yourself.
Mark Rippetoe had a point when he said: A weak man is not as happy as that same man if would be if he were strong.
110 kg squat! Last two reps felt pretty shitty but hey, I managed
I'm stuck, again, at 67,5 kg BP. I've deloaded two times already. Pro-tip anyone ?

You would achieve the same training results (as I do) with a balanced diet given a similar caloric intake, provided the nutrients you take are of good quality. It takes less to achieve said intake if you eat a lot of fat, I'll give you that.
Why promote paleo diet so much if its not really sustainable. One would generate more food if land was given to crops rather than cattle feed. Maybe ancestors relied more so on meat than their modern counterpart, they also did way more exercise and had to fight the climate/environment a lot more, not to mention their life expectancy was prolly in the 30's. You cant compare wild game (lean meat) with growth hormone/antibiotics/powerfed livestock. I cant rely on a study that compares apples to oranges.
Ah, I like how you didn't even read the article about how meat eating made us human. He doesn't plug his book in ANY of the paragraphs of that article, AND the study is linked at the bottom. This is why I can't take you seriously. No attempt at even doing research.
Sustainable agriculture is actually more productive than typical farming because of things like free fertilizer from manure. But no one every talks about things like this. It's just rant and rave about how crop growing is super good.

Really sorry to hear that phyre. But I'm happy that you've forged the strength to carry that sort of burden.
When the doctor said "no weight bearing for a week" i dont think he meant "go in the gym tomorrow and do 3 snatch triples at 80, a few doubles of hang c&j, then finish up with some heavy squats". Oh well, what can i say? I can't stop. Ice bucket time!

Very touching story. I'm glad you had the strength to bear that responsibility emotionally, mentally, and physically. Whenever I'm feeling sad, angry, or have a problem, I know that barbell is always there for me.

I figure as long as I'm at a caloric defect it shouldn't matter, correct?
Yeah obviously its a lot more calorie dense so people usually go skim or 1% to cut, but if you're still at a deficit you should be fine.
almost lost my god damn mind checking in on the vegetarian thread...if i had a bullet for every time someone said "unnecessary protein" or "too much fat" while they go munch on a ton of pasta and bread i'd be a happy camper.

Ah okay cool, just wanna drop 3% to make my bottom abs show :/
And agreed. I don't understand how you wouldn't like a big nice juicy steak, who cares if you're killing an animal, they wouldn't give a fuck if you died, and I doubt if you were out in the wild you would bitching about animal rights.

Wild game may have leaner muscular meat than stockyard livestock, but muscular meat only comprises the bulk of the meat we eat today. Humans evolved eating nearly all of the animal, and organ meats and offal contain much, much more fat than even the fattiest Angus steak. Here's a basic rebuttal of the argument that hunter gatherers ate less fat, in fact they ate much more, and copious amounts of saturated fat.
A big reason stockyard meats are less healthy than more "natural," meats is that the animals are being fattened on grain and soy, which they--just like humans--are for better or worse not evolved to do.
Sure, a healthy person with decent genetics can get great training results with a variety of nutrition programs, however for overall health (avoidance of inflammatory-based diseases, etc. etc.), eschewing grains and gluten is simply better.
@decaf, why are u training!! You will not get stronger in a week, just let your ankle rest!!!
But im a hypocrite since I tweaked my elbow again today after missing a snatch. Then I just when to do cleans off the blocks even when my elbow was hurting lol.

oh wow that vegan thread is huge.
Lol its okay i didnt feel any pain(would have stopped if i did) because i stayed on my heels the entire time and was only went ~70% Only pain when i put pressure on the ball of my foot, so running is pretty out of the question. to be honest squatting hurts less than trying to walk ^_^ Not trying to get stronger in a week...i just need to lift or i'll feel like shit lol.
@cambium: lol welcome to my life when i got back from mardi gras. so brutal working out after non stop boozing benders

Yes, for now. Olympic lifts are so fun and I have a decent build for them (long arms = better pull).
And yes sir. The BROZKNOWS video squat is what I should be aiming for? Do you have a good tutorial for that? I've been watching the California Strength C&J/Snatch videos, and while I can't quite do everything as cleanly as those guys, I'm not bad.
