Hate to burst everyones bubbles here, but I'd say Grenada is the best country when it comes to the Olympics 2012.. You can verify this statement here: http://www.medalspercapita.com/
I believe China would need about 2000 medals (compared to the 88 they got) to get back to #1. Good news for US though as per capita you beat China by a wide margin counting only gold or grand total of medals.
Just saying.

Not for nothing, but doesn't this mean that the US has to win like 800+ medals to match? I mean, are there even that many medals given out at the Olympics? I don't know if measuring "per capita" is really the way to go, as opposed to just taking the absolute number. I think the fairest way would probably to do a percentage of events entered compared to medals: i.e.: if you can medal in 50% of your events, regardless of the absolute number, that's probably better than countries that just entered events for the sake of entering events (I think the IOC encourages countries to enter as many as possible, because the spirit of the Olympics is "fair competition" rather than winning.)
In any case, back on topic, with all of these conflicts, maybe my platinum zerg has a chance to win. Oh, to dream! TO DREAM!

Just a warning for anyone trying to qualify for this... The last WCG USA was a complete failure. I qualified for it and the scheduling and overall management of the tournament was awful. After, the 8 people who qualified got notified that they had to pay for their own trip/hotel/food to Korea and pay an entrance fee of $1500 to even get into the tournament.

does the fact that this is during MLG mean that it will make it easier for players like me to qualify?

this. i might play the second qualifier since they decided the 1st qualifier during wcs north american finals and mlg raleigh was a good idea. (lol?) but I fully expect them to fuck up and screw everyone over.

$1500 entrance fee? If this is true I won't bother playing the qualifiers.

Why is this in the sponsored threads? Wcg has shit on our community for a number of years now.

Here is the email I got last year after I had qualified:
"Hey guys,
We just tried calling you regarding the WCG USA Grand Final tournament. I just want to clear up some details which I don't think I made clear in my previous emails. As you know you will be required to pay for your own flight, lodging, food, expenses etc, but on-top of that WCG is also requiring that the USA Representative pay a mandatory $1,500 player fee just to enter the tournament. In this past this was covered by WCG USA, but since such drastic budget cuts were made, it is simply no longer possible for that to be waived. This trip is basically going to put you out something like $4,000 when all the necessary expenses are added up.
I completely understand if you cannot justify paying this much and if you wish to bow out, please let me know ASAP. We have been given a deadline of Sunday night to have a winner in this tournament, so even if you are still able to pay that amount, you need to be available to play back-to-back matches sometime in the next few days. Also, you absolutely must have your passport in your possession and be ready to go as far as that's concerned.
Please either give xxx a call back at xxx-xxx-xxxx or reply to all in this email with your decision.
Thanks,
- xxx"

Did you actually win a qualifier, or did you qualify to go? I'm pretty sure these have two different results

Both. I won a qualifier and then advanced far enough to earn a spot in the grand finals, hence why I received that email.

Sorry I wrote that incorrectly, what I was trying to point out is the fact that I think they can only pay for the trip of the person who wins the US qualifer. After that, it comes to funding and I imagine they only had enough funding to let the first place player go to Korea (which I believe is why Idra was the only american who went).

Conflicting schedules XD I'll be watching NASL...
|
Can someone from WCG please clarify:
- 1st place of each qualifier earns a paid trip to the WCG USA finals - 1st place of WCG USA Finals earns a paid trip to WCG Grand Finals
- 2nd - 4th of each qualifier earns a spot at WCG USA finals (not-paid)
Will USA send any other players to the WCG Grand Final (I.E. 2nd place has a spot, but not paid?)
Also, is there a date and/or location chosen for WCG USA Final and WCG Grand Final?
|
1st place of each qualifier earns an invite to the US Finals and a travel stipend 1st place of WCG USA Finals earns travel and lodging to WCG Grand Finals in China
2nd - 4th of each qualifier earns an invite to the US Finals (not paid )
As far as sending any other players to the WCG Grand Final, that is probably not an option seeing as WCG makes each country pay for every player they send to the finals.
US Finals are still in the process of being secured, but it will probably be at the beginning half of October.
WCG Grand Finals are in Kunshan City, China - all that info is on the main WCG website.

How much is the travel stipend? And thanks for the quick response! Also, is there any way to change the dates of the first qualifier so it doesn't conflict with MLG / WCS NA?
|
We cant adjust the dates of the qualifiers because of the scheduling before the planned US Finals event. But matches can be rescheduled as long as both opponents agree. We are also willing to work with players to extend their match times. This will need to be on a case by case basis, because not everyone whos playing in the NASL qualifier might be in the WCG qualifier as well.
|
The travel stipend is still being sorted out - but normally it would cover flight and we would arrange hotel. But it is a set amount, so if you dont book your ticket in advance, it might not cover it.
