DRG LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOO
|
Bit sad for Nightmare, he has had some really nice results and wins lately, would have been nice to cement with a GSL Ro8

Happy for the Final Boss, but I'm dissappointed that Solar is playing so poorly again. I thought he had finally reached a new plateau in his play but I guess it wasn't meant to last.

Difficult to know if he really was "lazy" or if he just felt like he didn't practice enough, but form can vary from day to day and you can't afford that in Code S ro16 as we have seen time and time again.

Pretty sure it's a bait bone, considering soO is playing well again, and even qualified in 2nd place in his group, but I will grab it: soO? ![](/mirror/smilies/clap.gif)
Solar / Dark often trade the 1st place nowadays, but sometimes SHIN is top 2
As for Rogue, it's going to be very interesting to see how he fares in his particularly difficult group, seeing Maru and Serral win so many titles during his military has probably been a motivation boost?

Glad to be wrong about DRG; was really worried about his commitment/mindset after how horrible he looked in Season 1.
Regarding the upsets in general, "GSL hardest league in the world!" cliches aside, we're currently on a pretty abnormal streak of RO16 upsets across a number of seasons. Maru going out in 2023 Season 3, Dark and Solar going out in 2024 Season 1, and now both Solar and Reynor going out in 2024 Season 2.

Hmm. given Reynor's lack of success in several GSLs so far - can we really say it was an upset and not business as usual?

Hmm. given Reynor's total lack of any success in several GSLs so far - can we really say it was an upset and not business as usual? Reynor has won a World Championship in IEM Katowice 2021, he was finalist in several WCs, he won a huge prizepool tournament in Gamers8 and has overall been a top contender in EU since he was allowed to play in the offline European tournaments. He only tried GSL three times which is not a lot, and as a foreigner coming into Korea it's probably more difficult to do meaningful custom games (since other foreigners won't be able to play you with good ping, and you need to practice with good ping for GSL since it's almost LAN). In spite of this, given his pedigree, Reynor is a favorite for the title in any tournament he enters, no matter if he seemed out of shape in a tournament a few weeks before (like in the recent DH:EU for example)

Sure, it's unlucky that Reynor hasn't made a deep run, but he's qualified and been in the top 16 every time (he reached the second group stage in 2018).
Just as a comparison, Maru went out in GSL Code A (2016). And in other GSLs he also got knocked out earlier (more than 16 players).

I think its a matter of style, Solar like to play early lingbane into Hydra Lurker Viper, and he usually have to hold the first tank push with slow banes and just Ling Queen. The current map pool is pretty great for such push from Terran and Solar just fall behind due to bad trade, then die minutes later from the bad trade.

That is true, Solar could just be having a very hard time due to the map pool. But then again, he fell out of his last GSL group before the patch went in so it can't JUST be that.

Why did everyone underestimate DRG whenever he came to Code S? That dude has won a title before he started his military service, and consistently made into top 8/4 since then while Solar only made into top 8 when he finally win his first title. I guessed DRG was the oldest of all current active SC2 programmer in Korea and perhaps the most hardworking player ever, right? Between Solar and DRG, I would say that DRG was more consistent in Code S preparation.

I love DRG probably more than anyone still following the scene and believe me DRG going into this group had no right to advance, let alone 4-0. Wax described it really well in the preview, it really looked like DRG was done and dusted for good.
