Damn misses this live will watch soon.
Thank you Artosis and Tasteless for this pillar in my life. I watched the first GSL’s live with the upgraded video quality to the detriment of some of my college classes, but it was worth it. Even if I wasn’t invested in some of the players or seasons the banter has always been top marks.
I hope someone saves these broadcasts in case YouTube or affreca pulls them. Congrats to Maru as well, easily the player who has elevated their race the most.
good times.

Rogue excelled the most in both format/tournament despite his first championship came after 2017. Byun, ? (who shouldn't be named), TY and others made at least one title in every format tournament.

Respect to Rag for making it and of course gratz to Maru for being the GOAT.
Honestly though it was a terrible finals, the skill discrepancy between these two was obvious and bordered on absurd. Maru never even once looked like he was facing any type of heat, completely in control the entire series.
Much love to Artosis, end of an era but all good things must come to an end one day <3

GSL format allows the opportunity for players to be at their peak every match. It doesn't necessarily turn out that way but they at least had the chance to play at their peak. In weekend tournaments no one has the opportunity to play anywhere near their best StarCraft. It's pretty much who can do the best given shitty circumstances. I'm much more interested in peak vs peak than who can play the best with jet lag, sleeping in a terrible hotel bed, being forced to use standard or well known builds due to multiple matches in a day, in a crowded venue wearing multiple layers of noise canceling and a loud audience.

This argument doesn't help the Serral goat argument at all. If this is the argument then it still goes back to the fact that Maru has won multiple international weekend tournaments while Serral hasn't won any GSL seasons. So Maru has many more of Serral's favored formatted titles than Serral has won of Maru's. Rogue also has won many of them too.
But nah, Serral doesn't need to win any of the Korean formatted events to claim GOAT status. Winning in his favored format is enough.

Ah yes, Serral hasn't won any of the GSLs that he's competed in a grand total of 0 in. I don't really care who people think the GOAT is, Maru/Serral/Rogue all have very legitimate cases, but this line of reasoning is moronic.

Maru has won 5 GSLs and Serral 0, do you think Maru's GSLs should not be counted because Serral hasn't competed in them or what is your line of reasoning here? Why should not even participating in a tournament be rated higher than trying and failing like Maru at World Championships (in which case failing means reaching the ro4 4 times).

Top 4 GSL might have lower aligulac rating than top 4 EU at this point lmao

...The point is that he hasn't proven himself in the format/region. It's not that it counts against him, it's that it remains an unknown and he can't be credited with it. And there are other people who have actually competed and done well in both formats. This means that they have concrete results to show that they can do it, which is to their credit. Serral didn't compete and win in the most prestigious and difficult tournament, so it's hard to credit him with it. My opinion is that he probably would've done well, honestly. I doubt he would've won, but he would've been in with a chance for sure. But my opinion is irrelevant, because he didn't actually do it. Do you really find this line of reasoning moronic?
Serral is one of the greats, I don't think anyone disagrees at this point. But ranking him against Maru and Rogue is pretty hard. I don't think it's something that can be resolved, it's all a matter of opinion.

You can't be the GOAT of Tennis if you haven't won any Wimbledons, you can't be the GOAT of basketball if you've never played in the NBA.
Code S is the most prestigious championship a player can win in Starcraft 2. It's right next to a Katowice or a Blizzcon championship in terms of prestige and difficulty. In fact I will argue it's greater because Katowice and Blizzcon gives advantages to non-Korean players because of regionlocking especially Blizzcons.
The fact that Serral is considered the GOAT when he has a 0 on his resume next to Code S titles is the same as giving a Tennis player the title of GOAT when they've never played a professional game on Clay or never played in Wimbledon. It would be absurd to do so in that sport, and it's absurd to do it in Starcraft 2.

thanks for a shit finals ragnorok
What a shitty ending to an amazing season
Rag did not deserve to be in the finals

Ragnarok is the goat. And I mean the goat from Jurassic Park.
This boy is consistently fed to Maru as a snack throughout his career. Was a truly awful finals but I think Maru would have nun-chucked anyone except for herO, (despite having beaten hero in the semis, if we gave herO another go i think he'd do better). Also seems that Maru plays a lot better vs players he doesn't respect. the recent 1-4 loss to Serral comes to mind.
I have a small suspicion this is the last GSL season? Stormgate going to desert the other RTS playing fields next year, I think. We'll see.

GG to Tastosis. Amazing run lads. <3

End of an era. We love you artosis

very poor finals in terms of dramatic effect, but happy to see artosis go and hoping for more State in the future!

One of the things that I'm hoping we can discuss is Maru's walling in this series. In a number of the games, he chose to wall in his natural instead of his main. Any idea why he chose to do that? What's the thinking behind that move?
