Dark and soO are favorites. I can see one of the foreigners making it, but moreso with showtime. I think showtime vs Special is pretty 50/50 maybe even slightly favoring special. But I think showtime has a better shot against soO
Either way, SpeCial fighting!!
EDIT: Decided to have some fun and predict the scores
SoO 3-2 Special Dark 3-0 Showtime Dark 3-0 SoO Showtime 3-2 Special Showtime 3-2 SoO
Like last year, Showtime beats Dark in the opener and Special beats Soo 3-2. Showtime takes down Special in the winners match and Special beats Soo again in the losers final.

As it s BO5, I gues both 6-0 and 0-6 are pretty unlikely. But even in Bo3, a 4-0 would be pretty unlikely I gues. I m expecting him to bomb out to Showtime and Special. That would also save Dark from revealing his hopefully sharpend ZvZ allready

Yeah they’re great, think the IDs are afgsl3, 4 5 and 6. They had them for his season of GSL as well as GSL vs the World
Guys I need your advice, broadcast start at 23h00 for me, and IDK if I'm better staying up or getting up early.
How much talkcraft do you think there will be? Because if it's a Blizzcon like situation I'm going to bed, but if it's a WCS style broadcast I might stay up the catch the first games.

Well, I couldn't go to bed midgames so I would nap till 23 and then watch all night
EDIT: I've done it countless times this way, Superbowl for example starts somewhere around 2 am in EU. So I take a (long) nap and then watch and then go to bed and start my day late

Normally in these situations I would nap a bit before (as long as I could), then load up on caffeine throughout the tournament. Worked fine during MLG era and there was quite a bit more downtime back then than nowadays
On October 24 2019 02:31 Garnet wrote: Are the times wrong? Blizzard says tournament starts in 30 mins.
The show start in 30 min, the games start in 9 and a half hour, see they need to give time for the caster to explain all the incredible story line of this tournament and building up the hype by reminding us that the level of play has never been higher and that this should be the best tournament off all time.
The format is different to last years because last time it was two groups a day whereas this time (rightfully so imo) the groups each get their own spotlight of a day. Might not be the best time for us EU folk but we can always VOD it like i will do :D
Edit - Guess i will put a VOD link in OP actually for this purpose.
Lol yeah people complaining about the time for EU viewers have no clue what it’s like to be US/CAN east coaster. When GSL was on 5:30AM slot I was HAPPY because that meant I could get up early and watch the tail end of it, otherwise it started in the middle of the night. And considering it’s a bigger production and Bo5, if someone in EU wakes up a couple hours into it I bet they still have at least half of the broadcast left to view

Just now found out that it begins this early. I now could thank my children for being up so early (pre kids wakeup time is the calmest time of the day) but then again without'em I probably would've known anyway.
This group is really tough for me. I'd like to cheer for everyone. The coolest storyline would probably be soO winning the whole thing just like he did it in Katowice.
Finally Dark gets punished for doing that dumb ling/bane attack that is completely reliant on your opponent messing up. Just solid play all around for Showtime

It probably wasn't a winning position for anyone but still it wasn't a great response.

He could have pulled the probes away at the third and deal with the lings better. It doesn't solve his problem of a thousand locus knocking at the doors, of course just his response to pressure that didn't seems the best to me. showtime seemed to have phenomenal response to me. maybe not stats or trap level but he did everything he could imo.
it just sucks to watch protoss vs nydus. wtf are they supposed to do?
Showtime seems scared to attack. There was a decent window before the SH came out where Dark had overdroned and had basically nothing, but Showtime just postured around without actually attacking.
On October 24 2019 13:32 OsaX Nymloth wrote: Swarm Hosts were a mistake to ever be made
Nydus was a bigger one.
nydus should only be able to spawn on areas with creep? then it's just like the ones in BW
Or maybe add a cooldown on nydus spawn like recall..?
Why not just make each pair of locusts cost like 5 minerals? 20 Swarm Hosts would still only cost 100 minerals to spawn a fleet of locusts. They'd still only need to kill like a Zealot or 2 probes to justify the cost.

I think he wanted to attack when Dark was in the middle of getting his fourth up and then turned around. Maybe he wanted to force some units or maybe he didn't think it was safe to attack up that ramp.

There's no such thing as attack timings with 3 oracle unless you have prepared a timing (aka. the stats attack). You can't just attack in this matchup, and if it gets held then you absolutely lose to the SH nydus.

Winter's Gate isn't even good for swarmhosts (unlike say Thunderbird). But with the flight range that locusts have, there's no such thing as a map that's truly bad for swarmhosts.

It's still silly a siege long range aoe unit can move and reposition 4 times as fast as a siege tank.

Preaching to the choir. Tell that to Blizzard not me (and maybe also tell them that 10 range lurkers are a silly idea).
This was so weird game. It could have be over so many times, after that meh cannon rush, after first nydus wave, and somehow it went into macro SH/nydus + mass lurker game. Damn.
Last game was entertaining and back and forth, I don't really mind about these type of nydus SH game, I felt like there was at least some opportunity for Showtime. (Of course he was kinda behind in the midgame so that's probably the reason)

I apologize for ruining anyones viewing experiences, but there are some things that do not deserve to have words minced, and currently this iteration of Zerg is both bs and disgusting, and nerfs on one or two things might make it better.
like not even big nerfs--> Nydus goes to hive, and so do swarm hosts. Everything else is fine, these two units are broken, before it was Infestors and now it's nydus/SH. Like PLEASE, Blizzard SH free units? FINE. Nydus no CD? FINE. PUT THEM ON HIVE, so when Zerg gets to it, they'd actually have to do something in the game to cripple the Terran or Protoss or make them super behind to fight. that's good game-play. But Zergs don't have to do anything, Dark NEVER crippled Showtime before the Locusts came out, then one wave, and Showtime is DEAD. Like????? How is this good game-play???
I'm sorry mods, warn me all you want, but this is just disgusting.

Yeah, I think spending more time discussing the previous games may be acceptable before the winners matches since the guy who just played would have more time to rest and prepare, but for the second match is just too much...
@AzAlexZ I'm sure in the next super secret meeting that Blizzard CEO has with TL mods, they will discuss your concerns and come up with proper nerfs. You can stop posting now.

Damn I wanted to play Kohan on second screen during this downtime. Then I remembered it doesn't support windowed mode and anything other than old 1024 resolution. Bit sad now.

I think the worst part is that they showed a countdown until SpeCial vs soO but we then went to post game talk of the previous game. Could have at least made a seperate countdown for that since it will probably happen after each game.
That was Specials game to lose. Unfortunately, he did. I'm surprised soO was able to counter, but when you make as many mistakes as Special it is understandable.
I think special coulda done way more and almost decide the game with the BC's, but he did really bad calls like not taking down the lair after killing the spire.

You're making a really big assumption that I care 1 bit about what Blizzard does to Starcraft 2.

I think both are still better than the lurker, which finds use only against Zerg itself
Lurker is the unit for lower leaguers. Get hive, get insta-burrow, create mucho lurkers, do heroic run under the enemy army, burrow, lose to flying units
(on the more serious side - in lower leagues the insta burrow decimates army really well)

I’m not sure if I should wake up early tomorrow trying to catch Serral vs Maru or if 8h is gonna be the perfect hour. I don’t expect TIME - Maru to last long so this is tricky.

Are you even sure it happens? Still very possible for Maru to get #1 and Serral lose the first match against Stats.

The last man on TL.net who still believes we're getting a Serral v Maru Bo5

Well in that case I'm happy either way. I just want to see Maru qualify (if possible in first place) so there is hope for a terran win at BlizzCon!

It's not that unlikely.
I expect it to happen but they might be tired from playing each other. The good thing is that they know it's vZ next, whereas soO is unsure about the match-up he is gonna play
Special can't manage the unit engagements that good against Showtime. Showtime is always a step ahead. I guess Juanito's wrists can't handle going Maru or TY mode to pick up bio from incoming Disruptor shots, he's lost countless bio units due to Disruptors in these past games alone.

Yeah, I realy expected him to beat soO. In my eyes soO is by far the weakest player in this group, due to his bad form in the last couple of month
The foreign terran dream lays on Gabe's shoulders now but his group is not easy for terran...
Sad to see Major loosing like that he didn't play bad but he had better time for sur Now gogo showtime kick some koreans to show to the entire world that Europe is in the place !

Technically there s still Time, but yeah..
That does seem very technically with that group from hell, but yes..
I dunno just feels like Zerg has all the options and the better lategame, not rly sure why this matchuo is allowed to exist that way (ah yes and mostly ez scouting against all ins currently).
On October 24 2019 20:21 sudete wrote: soO and Dark aren't even abusing it perfectly. Wait till we see Serral vs Stats tomorrow
unless he is drunk,my boiii stats is better at defending dat nydus nonsense strat better than anyone because the strat itself aint invincible but if you fail to defend the 1st wave ? prepare for the worst
I disagree, the nydus is just too stupid as seeing it presents protoss with 2 options: 1. be insanely active around the map and defend all nydus(es?) or 2. go for a push and be aggressive. This leads to the zerg being able to do fake nydus as soO did game 1 or just do the nydus sh like they normally did or a roach nydus (which doesnt work that much acutally). That means if you try defend zerg has free roam and probably better lategame. And if you attack the moment zerg holds your push, they can instantly counter with the nydus while toss tries to rebuild expensive units. It's just way too much of a strategic limitation brought upon the matchup. AH yes and it's completely unfun to watch nydus sh but that's just an imo.
edit: not to say it's unbeatable but it's just beyond me that one (unit/building) is allowed to dominate the meta in a matchup like that.
Dark vs Showtime 3-2, SoO vs Special 3-2 and finally SoO vs Showtime 3-1. When will Blizzard act? Results like this can only be explained by gross imbalance! In any other meta, Dark or SoO would have had zero chance to win those matches. I'm highly disgruntled Edit: This is all sarcasm. Not sure if it would be obvious in the current climate....
soO lost to Dark? For me that is the most surprising result from today... I guess soO ZvZ is not what is used to be huh, because Dark is seriously terrible at it.
Showtime and Special did not have a chance today, lets be real here guys. Only EU Zergs could beat Korean Zergs in this day and age of SC2...
Showtime actually played well overall, except in the last game vs soO. He outplayed Dark in the first game, but after that the nyduses started catching up with him. Map 3 vs Dark (Disco Bloodbath) perfectly illustrated the problems with the design and balance of the nydus. He was already down 60 supply after taking major damage from the first locust wave, then he tried to deny the whack-a-mole by dropping immortals at the second nydus and managed to snipe it with some nice micro. So the swarm hosts just drop another wave at the original nydus instead. By the time he cleans that up and heads back down to the other spot, there's another two finished nyduses there. The look on his face said it all at that point.

Terrible? Dark's ZvZ rating is 2nd highest in Korea, and is 120 points above soO's.

Dark's ZvZ rating on Aligulac is carried hard by his overall rating(and, especially, by his ZvT). soO hasn't been winning many ZvZ in this patch, too.

Aren't vP / vZ / vT ratings independant of each other? Especially considering global rating is just the mean of vP/vT/vZ ratings.

I don't understand what this statement means. Moreover, Dark went 3-0 against soO recently. A 3-2 score is hardly surprising.

I don't know why you say Dark is terrible at it. Some of the best ZvZ I can ever recall seeing was Dark vs soO.

They are not completely independant, no.
If only one of two matchups are played in a certain period, the other(s)' rating will vary; look at Serral's rating history, for example: in the last period, he played only vsP and vsZ but his vsT rating increased as much as his overall rating(the average between his vsP and vsZ increase). Alternatively, check his list 234: Serral went 4-0 in ZvZ and all of his ratings increased by the amount his vsZ did.
Edit: Now that I think of it, this just doesn't feel right. This way racial specific ratings can influence each other, and I believe this is happening on a regular basis.
Specifically, on Serral's list 234, why would all of his rating increase by 15 if his vZ did? His vP and vT should stay the same while his overall rating should increase by 1/3 of the amount.

I Think, the guys behind Alligulac desidet to programm it this way, because if someone becomes an better played over all, but didn t Play all matchups equally, the Ratings would also be strong. For example, if an EU Zerg gets way better over like 1 year, because je goes full time, but plays way more vs Z than vs P and bearly any vsT, his Rating now reflects that he s stronger over all. With your method, the vsT Rating would be much worse and the vs Z Rating much better than his over all Rating. But that would be strong, as the Player just got better over all, no matter the match up.
Think only Special can feel disappointed with his showing today, his builds against soO gave him possibilities but he just didn’t quite execute today. Didn’t play terribly either but didn’t seize some of his opportunities, Showtime played pretty damn well but his opponents were a bit stronger today.

yeah I was surprised they thought Showtime was doomed for a short while. I thought Dark was in a poor position when his nydus attack began to fizzle out.

yeah I can't see him winning lategame against other top players. He approaches lategame too much like the midgame, trying to surround/outmaneuver the enemy with a lot of mobile units instead of taking advantage of zerg's really strong spellcasters.
dark vs showtime was just infuriating to watch. dark was 3-0 in the games he built a nydus canal and those games made me want to never watch him play vs protoss ever again. and 0-2 in the games he didn't
Well this will probably make some korean elitists gasp, but I thought that Showtime looked like he played the best overall of anyone in the group. Sure, he made some bad mistakes in a couple games, but so did they all. In general, he was having to work way harder because of the maps and matchup, but looked more impressive while doing it.
