A shame with such a nice concept and what seemed to be some top notch production. Lol typical Swede, cant get out of that PC suit. :D Can't escape a sexist society, unfortunately... Living in Sweden has morphed your sense of what is sexist. No, it's definitely sexist. But, dear swedes, think of it as a tongue-in-cheek riff on how woman are traditionally presented in male dominated sports. Look at the colors in this show - the whole thing has to be done with an ironic distance! It's fabulous!
It's not sexist. It doesn't demean women. It's status quo, in the same sense that female cheerleaders are at ball sporting events or fight-girls are at combat sports events.

There is nothing wrong with sex, but when the participation of the one Sex is limited to appearing half-nude and mute, particularly in a setting as dominated by males as esport is, I can't blame people for taking offense (though I don't think it's worth more than a chuckle at the expense of the producers). Why are they there? What role do they serve? Do we really need such stale images of power to big up the players?

Oh, glad you cleared that up for me; if you say it doesn't, then it can't possibly demean women. Now tell me about all the piles of cash cheerleaders make and how women are welcomed when they rather want to play the sports where they're supposed to shut up and look pretty.
I agree with M0ck in what was written above my post as well; even though I think the problem of sexism in especially esports is a bit too severe for me to chuckle at. : /

Life is sexist. What about the cheerleaders in all major sports? Or the strangely monogendered sideline reporters who exist only to offer humorous anecdotes about the player's weekend activities? Or the female sports anchors that are never behind a desk so they can show as much leg as possible?
I mean it boggles my mind that people let themselves get bent out of shape.
That being said those chicks were ridiculous and I rolled my eyes each time they showed up.

Status quo and and intentional sexism ARE mutually exclusive however. Status quo is the path of least resistance, so it's mutually exclusive with almost anything that's intentional.
It's simply status quo to have pretty girl present things, for many reasons. One reason would be the catering to the audience (mostly males and majority of people are straight) Women's bodies are also culturally associated with beauty in general not just sexiness, so even if the audience is split 50/50, picking female eye candy is the obvious choice.

Anything can demean anyone, who cares? It doesn't intentionally demean women.
Now tell me about all the piles of cash cheerleaders make
Cheerleaders are professional dancers (at least in baskeball,) they make a standard professional dancer's salary I presume. They also love dancing. You're making it sound like cheerleaders at sports events are all the girls that wanted to play that particular sport but instead were cruelly told that since they're women they can't play but only cheer on the men... Obviously, this contradicts reason, because cheerleaders have to be skilled in their own craft and not in the sport they're cheering for.
and how women are welcomed when they rather want to play the sports where they're supposed to shut up and look pretty.
Women are welcomed to play sports just fine. I don't know what happens in your great progressive feminized homeland, but over here in America starting in high school girls can play all the sports that boys play except for american football and wrestling (I think.)
I agree with M0ck in what was written above my post as well; even though I think the problem of sexism in especially esports is a bit too severe for me to chuckle at. : /
The problem of sexism in esports? There's no problem of sexism in esports. There's no institutionalized sexism, there's only some vocal douche-bag fans who have no actual say in anything, but that's not sexism in esports that's just some vocal douche-bags being douche-bags.

Whelp, watched the end of it and the white suits, the girls questionably dressed (questionable taste I mean), the wheel, and the general editing and arrangement made it look like a cheap tv show.. Really didn't like it, but meh. Having another tournament to compete in is good for players, and I guess the intention was good, but going for something more.. sober? may have been a wisest choice in my opinion. It's not a question of having girls involved being sexist or what, I don't think booth girls ever shocked anyone in BW, it just looked ridiculous the way it was done :<

They have such a nice studio and it seems like they aim for a crystalclean production but everything seems just a bit off and seriously, these low FPS are just a no go, I hope they fix it for next time.

Yeah I can't watch it, feel like I need to run and hide behind a wall to not overload on awkwardness and whatever-it-is. Not sure what/who you lads are aiming for to be completely honest.
This is your baby though right TorteDeLini? You mind sharing the ideas behind making it what it is? Tried to watch some of the Hearthstone stuff but man, I felt embarrassed for me, casters, players, other people watching. Felt like I almost died of embarrassment. Had a thought that you might be doing it to cash in on some weird sub-culture of TCG-people where this level of awkwardness is standard but since you are also doing it with SC2 I just have to ask.
Best of luck though, hope you find your audience!

All of those women actually do something, the girls at ESGN are just standing and smiling and sometimes walking with someone, it's weird and awkward even if you don't think it's sexist.

The ESGN girls thing is cringeworthy cheesy shit and it's embarrassing to watch.

I am trying to remember whether there was this much of a fuss over the OGN Stargirls
|
Just watched the rebroadcast, my 2cents: * the games were fun to watch; the last one was borderline silly, but still fun * the format is interesting for a change * the video quality was awful with all the stuttering and seemingly low framerate * the sound quality was awful too; casters sounded like robots * the whole production reminded me of a Japanese game-show; not my taste, though others may like it * I don't like replay casting in general, but at least games were from the same patch
For me it failed on the main points. Though video and sound probably will be fixed in future broadcasts, I guess they'll keep the game-show like "nerd appeal", which turns me off.

Thanks for the input (:
We've noted the framerate issue and sound quality as well. Things will be smoothing out as we move forward. More stylistic things that you guys don't like may be transitioned out in future seasons.
Games are casted live at the time, then sent to post-production.
I've taken into account valid criticisms from the past 5 pages, thanks everyone (:

I heard something about them flying all kinds of people to Berlin for some Hearthstone games?! Seems kinda odd.
We are based in Berlin and our studio is in Babelsberg. On ESGN TV we try to cover all eSports related activities. For Fight Night we started with HS, SC II and SF IV. But that may change in the future, and we could add more games
For ESGN.com we cover the games our partners support with tournaments: SCII, LoL, Dota2, BF4, WoT, CS:GO and HS.

The funny but rather awkward "90s game show" feeling should be taken out. Besides that and the already mentioned production issues (the colors were way oversaturated, never noticed that kaelaris red beard is red like that when i met him in real life ) i really like the concept of the show. Unfortunately not all players are showman and therefore seem to be a bit out of place when getting introduced (like tlos entrance ceremony...awkward )
