Effort vs Trap Game 2 - DF Atlas

0:00-5:00

Trap starts with gate first
Effort pools before hatch

Effort has sent his overlord in the correct direction and finds the gateway expand

Effort takes a gas
Trap takes a second gas, starts his natural nexus and a msc

4 lings are in Trap's base preventing a natural wall from being built
Effort just drones up and starts ling speed

5:00-10:00

Trap walls off with 2 more gates, makes a stargate in his main
Effort just droning off 2 bases

Effort starts 2 evo chambers and a few lings
Trap adds a third gas and starts phoenix production and a forge

Effort starts +1/+1 and a lair, takes more gases, starts a 3rd hatch
Trap starts +1 and builds a robotics facility, then adds a second forge

Effort begins an infestation pit and +2/+2 melee, phoenixes start harassing and gives himself a worker lead
Trap starts twilight council, then charge

10:00-15:00

Trap moves his army out to take a 3rd, Effort intercepts with a group of lings and trades them for several sentries and zealots

Effort starts hive and enduring locusts
Trap takes his 3rd, makes a templar archives and warps in a couple archons

Suddenly trap moves across the map with chargelot+archon! Effort evidently wasn't expecting this, many swarmhosts are lifted and killed

Effort churns out a lot of roaches and eventually wipes out the attack
The roaches counterattack but Trap has enough army to deflect them
A few roaches run by and become an annoyance to Trap

Except Trap played the entire lategame completely wrong... Just sat there dying to locusts for 20 minutes

yea no idea why people are complaining

so what could Trap specifically have done to not lose like that once it reached the stage of max armies?

I'd love some warp prism play, but envision + tempest PUSHING instead of waiting would probably work better.

He did try warp prism play, several times. Unlike most Zergs Effort actually just covered all his bases in Spores.

Zealot runby's? tempest harass? Fuck do I know, i was sitting at the buss for 50% of the game.

God I've been to the baller fan club before, but re-reading it is giving me renewed life enjoyment. His life story was touching and gave me orgasms.

Just a couple of months ago everyone was saying that Skytoss was completely unstoppable...

2-3 weeks ago Swarmhosts were useless and people were joking how bad they are

It was the infestor useless QQ all over again.

Zergs always complain and then eventually find out that X unit is actually useful or viable, then shit gets real. :p

Tbh though, SHs really did seem useless, and are still very situational. They are definitely very good, but they have insane requirements for support and are difficult to transition too, you need a huge bank and a Great Wall of Zerg of casters and static def. Early-mid game they are terrible.

2 base nydus swarmhost allin disagrees with you.
Give thanks and praise!

At this point I think people are just completely biased against PvZ and will never be satisfied. We have a back and forth game with action happening in 3 places at once and still so much complaining. This is 10x better than WoL.

This game? Yeah it's cool.
Last game? It went on for half an hour while protoss had no chance whatsoever.

I think the issue with Swarmhosts mostly leading into long drawn out games is because they don't actually have this mid-game siege potential that they were primarily put in for (if I recall correctly). Zerg was supposed to get a unit that can actually use a good early game advantage and push earlier than Broodlords into fortified positions.

Thing is, Swarmhosts don't really provide anything additional to what you've already got in that regard. You get more, weaker units that have the same problems as Roaches, Zerglings etc.
No matter how many you have they cannot go through forcefields and they cannot destroyed by choke points, especially against siege units like Siege Tanks and Collossi.

So Terran will do fine against them first with bunkers and then siege tanks a littler later and Protoss still forcefields into Collossi.

Sure lategame and starving tactics are there but I don't feel like the Swarmhost has any "mid game, punishing siege unit" potential. I'd rather say the Viper has that siege potential but is obviously too late.
