Do you remember any of the games Stephano played during that period against top Korean Terrans? And he did play at the end of 2011, in the Blizzard cup. Got knocked out 1st round. IPL3. Where he beat a total of 2 terrans(one of them being Boxer)? Impressive. Never claimed it was. He asked if I remembered Stephano beating top Korean Terrans (and Koreans period) and I remember IPL3. But neither Boxer, nor StC were top Terrans. aLive was pretty good and Stephano lost to him. Lets just all agree that Stephano is a good player, the best foreigner, but all the hype of him winnig GSL ez was bullshit and extremely annoying. I think naniwa is the better foreigner overall Maybe at the time of his RO8 runs, but now I'm sceptical. On what do you base your opinion? Also I think Stephano and Naniwa are two completely different types of players - the one is better suited for GSL, the other for live events (how do you call that kind of tournament?).
I think stephano is the better player overall. Naniwa had 2 RO8 but did that on the back of a really strong(code s level) pvp more than anything. Also he kinda left the gsl pretty damn faster after those runs. Naniwa always kinda lacked consistency unlike stephano who has always been strong But i dont wanna turn this into a naniwa vs stephano debate lol Lets see how stephano prepares for the up&d, he might actually have a good shot at advancing if he gets a group without a lot of zergs

I was really hoping Effort would make it

Wolf is not biased actually at all towards foreigners. He may do an obligatory hype of their matchup, but he doesn't cast their games with bias like basically every other caster does. Besides Artosis, he is the best caster in Sc2 IMO. Very professional, great game knowledge/analysis, and ability to carry a cast by himself if need be.
And now we can go back to enjoying our regularly scheduled broadcast of the best players in the world playing GSL rather than seeds. Nestea

Not really, Flying revealed his Stargate play straight away. There was a probe more than halfway across the map which wasn't scouted and allowed Flying to set multipronged attacks with Warpgates. In hindsight, what Naniwa has done in the GSL is incredible. Everyone else that tries have fallen apart. Oh yeah cause jinro making 2 semis and HuK staying In code s without a seed for 6 months and making the ro8 is just falling apart. You're so smart please talk more

Well, he went to Blizzard Cup (different format but still vs top Koreans) during his prime. Stephano is still a top player. But his weakness can get exposed by Koreans. Where as vs Euros, he can play standard and still counter everything.

It's 1 bo3 where Stephano gets semi-hardcountered in BOs in two games, having late roaches against zealot pressure. My guess is he choose his BOs in order to prepare for a immortal all-in that never came. He didn't play his best, but he was also a bit unlucky. You don't have to understand much about SC2 in order not to draw grand conclusions based on today's games..

Fuck
Effort losing like that to some guy ive never heard about.

Well, Effort's vZ is beastly, and his vT very good. But his vP is really really bad.

But you have to wonder how long he will stay in Korea for. We have to remember that they have been a lull in big international tournaments during this period where Stephano is staying Korea. Soon, the international tournaments will pick up again with HoTS (IPL, MLG, IEM and then probably Dreamhack and others).

Flying used builds that are just not meant to work in the current metagame.
It was perhaps one of the most disappointing foreign performances ever in a GSL given expectations.

First part: He is a very good player but I don't think he's great. I've been watching SC a lonnng time and I have a good sense of who has "it" and who doesn't. It is my belief that Stephano lacks that "it" factor to be on the level with Koreans. So I don't dent he is talented but I don't see him ever being in the same sentence with top players.
Second part: I'm sorry but I have the right to cheer for and against who I want and so does everyone else. I wanted Flying to win and that means Stephano needs to lose. And if he loses more horrifically the better.
And have you heard of liquibet? If you bet against Stephano then you need to send all the negative energy his way that way the negative energy plus the lucky stone in your sock is just what was needed to make him lose and give you those glorious liquibet points.

Pretty sure that Flying was the one who "denied his talent". There's a difference between saying a pro-gamer is actually bad, and just being happy a player you dislike lost (or happy his opponent won).
Sometimes, spectators are fans of specific players. Sometimes, spectators dislike certain players.
That's life.

wow, Stephano lost to Flying of all people.
I feel like this deals the killing blow to his hype train in Korea, he will probably not return for the next season and never come back again, that is unless EG is forcing him to stay for Proleague.
