It's a bit unlikely and all, but if Crazy-Hydra gets an all-kill, would this be the first time in any korean winners league event that a team scores three all-kills in a row?
This match up needs more hype. I'm posting the piece I submitted for the writing thing.
The test is on. Since the start of the very first SC2-only Proleague; arguably there isn’t a team that had been undervalued; and undermined as Team 8. From the loss of Sea to TeamLiquid, Jaedong to Evil Geniuses and losing a whole string of players; Tyson, Killer, Movie for their lost passion for SC2; Team 8 became truly the “8th team” such that they were positioned to be the worst team of the 8 participating in SC2. After a notable player in Baby; their lineup consisted of a bunch of no names and a man that would have a solid outing and then unable to recall and repeat his perforamnce in the next match; known as Jaehoon. Top that off with having no sponsors; being forced to field the same players in Proleague because of their lack of depth; and their only notable player “Baby” struggling with a bare 50% record; they had every legitiament reason to just give up, quit, and forfeit each game. But they rose amongst the occasion.
Jaehoon. Speed. Ryul2. In the upcoming months and the upcoming rounds; these names will likely become household everyday names rather than no-name B-teamers forced to play the game because of a lack of depth. Ryul2 has provided a stellar ZvZ; although shaky at times due to inexperience. Speed, one of the biggest surprises of the tournament, has been a god-send to Team 8. Coming out of nowhere; he’s displayed some of the finest TvZ I the Proleague that would make Light jealous and providing a solid TvP and TvT as well. Don’t believe me? His victims: Effort, Stork, Reality, Hydra, Zero, Jaedong, and Turn; players who are ranked top amongst their respective teams. And there is Jaehoon: the man who drives everyone in the FPL nuts. A guy who’s been a pleasant surprise to us all; showing a solid PvP and a PvT and becoming easily the best protoss player of Team 8, beating out his competition of:himself.
These rag-tag group has shown they aren’t going down without a fight and going to be extremely scrappy for a win; doing whatever it takes; whether cheesing the **** out of the player; “speshal taktiks”; or even kicking the opponents players balls before going into the gaming booth; and hoping lady luck falls in their laps. For their first opponent this week; they’re going to have to pull out ALL of their shenanigans; hope for lady luck to completely side them and more because their opponent is none of then..
KT ****ing Rolster. Even the hardcore die-hard KT fans could have not seen the dominance as they’ve displayed for the first two rounds of PL. Reigning champion CJ at their midst? No problem. Rain/Fantasy led by the return of the evil emperor; boxer? Easy. The Unholy alliance featuring Jaedong, Taeja and Hero, each an absolute beast at their races? A joke to KT. Truly KT has become the best KT (so gtfo SKT!) In a matter of months, they have risen from the ashes and have become the team to beat. And they’re doing it with style, All killing poor STX Soul and a EG-TL anxiously awaiting the arrival of their final piece: stephano; TWICE, and beating their Rivals SKT to a pulp (4-1). If you take out the outlier of the Woongjin game in Week 2 of Round 1; no team other than CJ has been able to accumulate more than 1 win against them. They aren’t just winning. They’re COMPLETELY dominating.
Out of nowhere the inconsistent KT lieutenants have become the beasts of PL; Action showing off his great ZvZ; Crazy-hydra becoming arguably the best 5th man in SPL; and Wooki, a guy who’s only 9-1 this season including the most recent All-Kill on STX Soul. Then there is the always reliable Chin-toss; Stats a guy who just relishes and enjoys his role as the 2nd man but strong enough to go undefeated, take care of business and silently walking away from his booth afterwards as if the game was just a walk in the park. Even the b-teamers: Motive and Hitman have stepped up their game; picking up wins when needed and its only a matter of time before the super saiyan knowns as Hoejja steps up to the plate to join this fray of picking apart each SPL team. Team 8 is going to have their hands full trying to take down each one of these solid players preparing snipe builds, studying their VODs and trying to use the maps to the best of their advantage. If they are able to overcome this massive hurdle and beat the KT core…then as everyone in SC2 knows by now:
It’s Final Boss time. And after the Up and Downs, this final boss is angry.

Fion the bandwagoner
How am I bandwagoner. I've been a KT fan since early 2009.
GoRush makes the korean commentary a joy to watch. Yesterday, he was rambling about how to pronounce the two Hero's if they play each other and also how to approach white women. So jokes.

Not enough zergs are winning. Iron Squid was a prime example of this.
Showed the Muta's too early, if he'd hid them he could have hit an expansion and done a lot of damage. Instead he showed them to kill a reaper and allowed Speed to get turrets up.

CH didnt even play bad but he kinda messed up his engagement toward the end of the game. Plus this dude tends to play a rather low econ style on Arkanoid (read:interesting) so thats why theres no reproduction after losing that big army

The players clearly have the talent in EGTL, the coaching on the other hand... I'm no expert on how coaching should work but something isn't working

Few thoughts here... Zerg is an odd choice.. you might want to have a Zerg for later given the meta these days. Why send your other great Zerg out so soon?
But... thats okay by me because I really need Action to get as many wins as possible... hopefully all kill.
But lastly, and interesting, Zergs are the MOST likely to draw out Juan. If they feel confident (which they CERTAINLY don't against KT).. they are most likely to send him out vs Zerg. That's his MU. Hopefully he has been performing very well in house-

I have 9 from Revival too. whats your point?
I'm talking about the team itself, not one player. Revival isn't the whole team, but having him on my team would have been a smart thing to do from the start.
I wish I hadn't traded for CH. Expected him to play better. My captain TaeJa also scores no points because he's having it with the wrists, so only Wooki can save me now.

Well if there hadn't been so many vikings he probably could've denied the 3rd for a while with hardly any mobile anti air during the mech switch. Speed prepared pretty well, good turret spacing and just enough vikings
This is going to be mech vs mech. Cure's TvT is actually pretty solid. If flash plays like he did vs Taeja though he's going to win, anything less though Cure is going to all kill KT.

Actually it's really disheartening to see so many empty seats on a saturday. Back in BW days the studio was often totally packed on these days (with people standing far in the back).
What i've seen on the stream today (and the whole of SC2 Proleague) is nothing really.
that was so frustrating to watch, why would u just sit there watching a banshee hit your scv's when you knwo you dont have a scan ready. and let him kill 13+ just PULL THEM

Try mute + music of your choice.
It has higher quality for free over the English stream and I actually enjoy the Korean commentary even if I cant understand it. It's the same excitement I get watching Soccer in spanish.

Flash is so fucked. Cure is going to keep expanding and mining and Flash can't even get his thirdu p at all. IT's just a matter of time before he folds.
Cure is doing a lot of things right. Double expanding behind bio mech vs mech is exactly what you need to do whilst you still have map control so even inefficient trades work out

away from the banshee and in range of the turret that was 2pixels out of range, sure he'd lose 1 or 2 while moving but not 13+........
I love Cure taking Flash's expansion in the lower right corner. That's gonna make a huge difference in the event that the game somehow goes super late.
Wow, what great play from Cure. Sure, he got way ahead with that banshee early on but even beyond that, his decisions and multitasking were almost completely on point. Very impressed!

you must be mistaken, he had no turret att. And the moment it finished the banshee died.

Stats is formidable, but I'm afraid that he doesn't have what it takes to get a reverse-AK. He might be able to take down Cure, but there are three more players after that to contend with.

Did Cure know Flash was going mech when he pushed out the first time (couple of tanks, stim finishing?). Mech's gearing up then, even without losing so many SCVs, and I think bio might have been a better choice considering he was behind.

It just seems like going mech on a big map like this and only focusing on siege tanks your just going to spread yourself too far apart to make your tanks worthwhile. They will get sniped by themselves and put you in a huge econ deficit
On January 13 2013 13:36 Xxavi wrote: Instead of building so many useless CCs, he should have transitioned to BCs long long ago
that would have ended the game earlier for sure.
Yes, it would have been faster. But Cure's way is safer because he didn't know exactly how much he was ahead. If he misjudged and tried the BC transition, he could have gotten caught in mid transition from a strong 3 base push. Cure's strategy here was just gradually choking Flash since he was able to keep his tank count similar. Unless he overcommitted and ran his bio into siege lines, there was no way for Flash to move out cost effectively. And Flash had to be cost effective due to him being way behind on economy.

mech is actually really good on this map due to the chokes and ridges. Flash was just way behind after the banshee attack which lead to his third being way behind. He just did not have Eco to make hellions/ravens to support the tanks.
haven't seen enough of stats or wooki to critique the decision, even considering that wooki got the all kill last week
too much GSTL/Winners League experience tells us that single all-kills don't mean much, it's all-kills mixed in with great performances over a longer period of games

Bunching up units like that was good vs. the zealots. But vs. storms... shoulda seen that coming maybe. I guess he did get off a lot of emps... maybe he assumed he hit all the templars.
That wasn't a Stats win, that was a Speed loss. Speed should've canceled his 4th, lifted 3rd and ran. Stats was smart for engaging there, that's what I'll give to him.
That was kind of sad. I think if Cure fought in an open area he'd have won the big engagement, or at least even. Fighting at the choke by minerals was a huge blunder.

I'm confused, didn't they used to run Proleague where each player only gets to play 1 game, unless it goes to an ace match then maybe someone plays 2. When/why did it switch to the "Western" King-Of-The-Hill style where one guy keeps playing until he loses??

I wouldn't count MLG/IPL. If we did, I think Naniwa would be #1 with his run from Dallas. Polt also had an 18 or something game streak.
But those were instances where both players beat up a lot of canon fodder.

Yeah, honestly he's in a better sitution than the foreigners in EG-TL. I noticed that the foreigners are sitting on the edge of the bench by themselves talking english, they have Hwanni speaking fluent english to them too and so on. The rest of the team talk good enough english too. They don't really need to learn korean if they don't want. MajOr is basically thrown into it right away and it will be a huge help for him picking up the language.

I wouldn't count MLG/IPL. If we did, I think Naniwa would be #1 with his run from Dallas. Polt also had an 18 or something game streak.
But those were instances where both players beat up a lot of canon fodder.
I was mainly thinking of IPL5 or maybe a later MLG group (ie. not incontrol group) 10-0 into undefeated championship bracket type thing.
major said that alone is top 15 gm but he also said that ryul2 is currently the best player in practice games o.O. apparently baby is always around rank 1 gm lol

As someone who didn't follow Broodwar, this all-kill format, pro-league style, is quite fun. Can't say I enjoy their other format nearly as much though.

Fionn is secret SKT warlock or something. First he tried his witchcraft and cursed TSL to death and now he's a "KT fan" and see what happens.

Hard to believe. Seems to just result in a bunch of mirror matchups.
oh god the speed pickup was the sleeper pick of this FPL imo. And of course I got him before I read all the comments about him being sneaky good (have to toot my own horn )
WOW! just woke up. Beautiful results. Wish I had Cure on my lineup. Though I had Crazy on Anti, and this made me feel relief. Good to see someone knock down KT

Also why did KT send out two zergs :o
Did you watch the game lol?
What I want to say with this statement is that Flash's TvT skills dont transfer to SC2.
His superior tank management always won his games. In SC2 this cant help him.
Really impressed by Speed's play, I've got to say.. He played so well until that final mishap with the storms Man, those were so entertaining to watch. I also think Crazy-Hydra had a chance to win against him in the first game, but he kinda dropped the ball.
Sad to see KT lose, but they had it coming I guess. And I'm happy it's team 8 who beat them and not somebody else.
