Which require a subscription to be viewed so why cant you pay 5 dollars? Because I'm a student and dont really have 5$ to pay. Plus this isn't a TL organised event. And the korean vods are free so why shouldn't the english ones be? This has nothing to do with tl other than the fact that they are participating in it and have decided to get some english casters. Everything could be fixed if they just gave full monopoly to sayle . though i doubt that he would want to cast sc2 ;o. You can't afford $5 for 7 months of content? Skip the starbucks tomorrow and spend it on Proleague instead, come on now It's basically free. It's not that I can't afford it, it's that I don't see why they have any right to charge for it. This wasn't in the announcement, look to the right of the web page; IGN is rebroadcasting again, are they charging money for unlimited years of content? no. So why should a participating team do so? It just feels like this is geared towards making money instead of improving the community. it is their right to charge 5 dollars for it. it costs people time and money to produce. it is however not your right to recieve it for free. also, basically nobody is making money in this scene. and even if they did, what would be the harm? it would go towards producing better content for us. so dont make excuses just buy it. It's not their right, it's not their content. Please have a basic understanding of international law before you start spouting your opinion as fact, and I really hope that you're not twelve years old or this conversation is pointless. It costs a minimal amount of money to take KESPA's stream and add audio content to it, just to let you know. Profit is not necessarilly put towards improvement of product either, it's up to the firm what they do with it. you are not entitled to free content I laugh how you're posting this on the internet, on a very site that provides a humongous amount of FREE information and content. if you feel entitled to TL and the services they offer, maybe you should check out the Ten Commandments.
making esports about money is definately helping it! because $100,000 tournaments can just magically happen without anyone paying for anything.... 0.o

I will pay for it today just because i want to watch these games, plus they won ;D
love EG and TL clearly my two favourite teams
Edit: done

Oh if Kespa set the 5$ then yeah I understand it, however I find it odd that foreigners are charged this price when for so many years proleague has been a free to watch event... Whatever I've made my opinion clear and will just quit while I'm ahead. It's a shame to see this but shit happens. Watching live was free too, but the vods before the EsportsTV account was made were all "illegal" and the reason why jon747 was taken down and half of nevake's vods are set to private now. It's pretty much the same, except we now have a way to pay for rights to watch the vods yay!

What annoys me most about this is that TL never announced it. Couldnt you have written it in your big fancy news, that only the first couple of games were for free? Give a reasoning for it? Instead i stumble over a subscription block on twitch. I don`t understand why it was handled that way.

Yeah, such a shame that the businesspeople behind the SC2 scene are actually trying to build a sustainable model rather than catering to people who are too cheap to pay roughly 2 cents per day over the course of 7 months. Proleague is in high demand. They would be idiots and terrible businesspeople to not charge any fee. The fact that it's only 5 dollars for 7 months of HD content is something to be thankful for, not something to whine about.
You say "It costs a minimal amount of money to take KESPA's stream and add audio content to it" - did you consider that TotalBiscuit, MrBitter and Adebisi are not employees of EG/TL/Kespa and they don't work for free? There are something like 168 regular season BO7's that need to be casted, in addition to the playoffs.
You say "I really hope that you're not twelve years old or this conversation is pointless" and yet you're the one who doesn't seem to understand supply and demand, the most basic of all economic principles. There was huge demand for an English Proleague broadcast, and no supply, so EG-TL stepped in. If, as you say, "this is geared towards making money instead of improving the community," the price would have been something like 3-8 times higher than it is. Fewer people would have bought the pass but they would have posted significantly greater profit margins. Frankly, they could have charged $15 and I doubt many people who bought the pass would have blinked. $10 wouldn't have been a problem at all.
Also, just because TL is free to use doesn't mean they're not making money off of users. Ad revenue. Click through rates.

In all honesty, I don't really care that much about the fee they're charging for the HD stream and the VODs. What I actually care about more is the production of the content. If they're getting a naked feed from KESPA (no Korean commentary), why is the sound and other things so messed up? I'd like to be able to hear the in game sounds way more than what I currently hear, the commentators are too loud , and when we're out of a game we can't really hear anything other than the commentators.
I realize this is still new and early for them, but until that stuff gets fixed, I won't be paying for this. I feel like EG-TL should have passed on the streaming of this to a group that has more experience and more dedicated staff to producing content like this (IGN, MLG, NASL, etc.)

Can't watch the vods on twitch if I don't pay and can't watch the vods on esportstv's channel in my country wtf... I watched a thousands of vods of BW from 2002 to 2012 without paying anything, I missed that time sigh...

Come on guys, leave the cheapskate alone, he obviously feels very entitled to other people's work. He really must think that casters and streaming videos and tech support comes free out of eSports' butt.

Well unlike BW there's not like there's a shortage of tournaments with VODs that can still be sent around of pro players playing great games.
Not sure why you'd use proleague VODs for sc2 hype, though perhaps it depends on the friends. I usually show semi-interested friends proven amazing games from GSLs, MLGs, TSL, etcs that have a far greater pool of games with amazing moments.
The majority of things are ppv nowdays anyway. Everything is at 'least' optionally ppv or heavily reliant upon an over-use of advertising. That's the world we're living in. E-sports ain't cheap and it's certainly not easily sustainable.

I'm honestly UPSET at KeSPA that they are ONLY charging $5 for the whole Proleague season. I think it shows that they aren't putting enough attention into their English/foreign audience and, by extension, the English stream.
Call me crazy, but to me it seems clear that KeSPA/IEG is only charging $5 for the entire season because they either don't realize how much potential the English/foreign market has, or - and I think this is the more likely scenario - they DO realize how big the English/foreign market is, but they weren't organized enough to be able to capitalize on it.
I'm saying this because they can look to GomTV and the GSL and how it's had a successful track record of providing content to English/foreign viewers for $100-$200 per year with good viewership numbers, whereas for Proleague they're charging about 2% of the cost. Not only that, they told OGN 48 hours before their first Proleague match that they won't be the ones doing their English stream anymore AND they just finalized their English casters (EG-TL) one week AFTER Proleague started. And it's remote casting, too.
Which, in the end, is why YOU should care about what KeSPA charges, even if it's "too low". The less KeSPA charges for their English stream, the less attention they will devote to providing a good English stream viewing experience.
|
And by 2% of the cost, I mean 5%, lol. I obviously can't do 2 divided by 100 in my head (actually it should be 8%, not 5%, because it's $5 for 7.5 months, which works out to $8 per 12 months)

Damn I want the interview. Can't wait for all our pro transaltors to see what they say.

So now the vods for subscribers only? damn it..in those awkward moments in life where i can't afford 5usd, so want to watch this.. GG
