Really looking forward to Reality vs HerO personally. Do think that has the potential to be a great game, also one with big significance on the overall result of the match.
It's a pretty sad state of affairs for Khan, I just don't see how they can win this. Their non-RorO, non-Reality players have all looked straight up terrible so far. =/

Honestly much as I love HuK, Thorzain and Idra I like seeing EGTL win even more. Plus I think HuK could really use a break and I'm happy he's getting one. I'm sure they'll eventually bring out Stephano too and he quite possibly could snag a win or two.

Starts at 4:30am for me in Chicago, so it should be 5:30am for you. The time it starts (in your timezone) is in the OP.
EG-Liquid is bringing an all-Korean lineup for this match, but I feel like it's still going to be a very difficult battle seeing the players that the opposing team sent in. I'm predicting a 4-2 victory for KHAN.
when will people stop underrating kespa teams? I also think TL-EG is favored but 2 maps being the max that KHAN will likely take? i think they are only slightly favored, should go to ace imo.
stork can definitely beat JYP (it was really mind-numbing watching a scouted 3 gate blink rush beat a slower 3 gate blink rush and no plan to defend the initial attack he knew was coming at all, no sentry attempt, didnt chrono wg or speed up gate production as much as he could have...just rolled over and died to 4 more stalkers from stats)

Jaedong will win vs Shine
Reality will MURDER Hero.
HerO will beat him, you didnt follow Blizzard Cup, huh? 2-0ed Mvp and being on a 12-1 streak against Terran, including 2-0 vs Polt, 3-1 vs Ryung win vs aLive AND ....2-0 Reality.
So what has Reality accomplished besides a win in PL?
I`ve picked Jaedong as the "choke of the day", as I do believe hes rather overrated, and ZvZ can swing either way.

Usually when Zenio says he's confident he wins... Plus I'm biased when Zenio plays ZvZ... He makes the match-up fun to watch somehow... It's not your standard ZvZ.

The ability to win in PL is what actually matters though.

I was getting tired of all the Z v Zs in the Blizzard Cup and so I decided to switch over to Proleague to clear my head, and of course the game waiting for me is a Z v Z.
Game 1 Recap Samsung_RorO (Z2) vs Liquid`Zenio (Z8) Antiga Shpiyard
RorO spawns top right, while Zenio spawns bottom left.
Both players go hatch first, 16 pool and gas. Metabolic Boost and baneling nest starts for both players.
RorO attempts an attack into the main of Zenio, which is repelled easily without losing much. Zenio counter attacks, but is thwarted by RorO without dealing much damage either. Zenio up by five drones at this point. +1 range and thirds start for both players, transitioning into roaches. RorO goes for burrow while Zenio opts for +2 range and pathogen glands.
RorO takes a fourth and a fifth in the center and to the top left main while Zenio takes a fourth in the center bottom. As +2 attack and Hydra range finishes, Zenio moves out to take on RorO's army by the watch tower by flanking to the side to engage by RorO's fourth. A full blown engagement occurs, resulting in a huge victory for Zenio, able to take down RorO's entire army and the fourth. In the meantime few roaches rushed into RorO's main to deal some damage. Up 30~60 supply, Zenio pushes into RorO's natural, and forces a GG out of RorO.
Samsung 0 - 1 EG-TL
Personal note: Really glad to see Zenio back in shape. Also it seems like RorO needs work on ZvZ...losing this one in this fashion and 0-2 to IdrA is not a real good sign
anybody know how are the koreans views on SC2 WOL or HOTS. I hope they stick with it and drive blizzard to make more exciting changes to different matchups

The studios have never allowed for a massive audience. Only a couple dozen people.
Er, no.
The reason why the SPOTV studio has barely any people is only because there isn't space. It's basically a mini-stadium inside a PC Bang.
Watch OGN's broadcast of PL and while it has a capacity of 80-100, all the seats aren't filled because SC2 isn't that popular of a game in Korea, simple as that.

I fail to see how we haven't basically said the same thing.
"studios have never allowed for a massive audience" "because there isn't space"
Game 2 Recap Samsung_Stork (P7) vs EG.JYP (P1) Caldeum
Stork spawns bottom left, while JYP spawns top right.
One probe sneaks in to Stork's main and stays undetected.
Stork goes for a 1 gate FE with a robo followup, while JYP goes for a 4 gate. Pylon goes down in the main of Stork, but goes undetected. JYP attacks with 3 stalkers in the front to draw out the army while two stalkers and zealots are warped in the main. An immortal comes out for Stork to save him, but despite killing at least 3 stalkers, it goes down and so does Stork's chances to win the game.

Reality looking good, doing everything right so far. Hero doing a lot of small mistakes but he can just stay defensive and go into the lategame without that much of a disadvantage.
On December 18 2012 21:20 Asha` wrote: Reality too passive.
Completely shuts down the DT opening, and then Hero has no splash and no charge yet he doesn't really put on any pressure.
That's the beauty of macro DTs. You can either make a raven and give them time to tech switch safely or you risk losing your whole army to DTs if you don't have a scan saved up.
Reality goes for a Reaper fast expand, while HerO goes for a 1gate expansion. Some minor pressure is put on from Reality with a bunker in HerO's natural, but it's easily fended off.
Reality opts for a Marine-heavy build while HerO goes for a Twilight Council, immediately into a Dark Shrine. Reaper from Reality goes into HerO's natural, but doesn't manage to kill off any Probes nor scout anything.
Reality scouts the forward Pylon of HerO, but loses two Marines to a Stalker while trying to take it out. Throws up another bunker, and gets a Turret at the natural.
HerO tries to shuttle some DTs into Reality's main with a Warp prism, but gets sniped off immediately by Reality.
Both players go for third bases and stay back to macro up. Templar Archives added on for HerO as he goes for 2/2 and Zealot Charge, while Reality starts his +2 attack and +1 armor. HerO is going for a zealot/archon composition, adding on Storm.
Reality starts his Moebius Reactor and adds on Ghosts while also getting Vikings and +1 air attack. Some failed Zealot harass on Reality's fourth. HerO has loaded up HTs and a Zealot in his WEP, almost loses it to Vikings. 3/3 started.
More failed Zealot harass from HerO as he takes a fourth. The two armies move around eachother as Reality pushes towards HerO's third, while HerO positions himself behind Reality's army, in the only escape route. The engagement goes down, HerO drops his HTs and get a big storm on the marine ball of Reality. The army of Reality is demolished, and HerO pushes up further. Gets to Reality's side of the map, but pulls bac.
Colossus tech finally coming in from HerO, off one Robo. 3/3 has started for Reality, along with Personal Cloaking. Another Starport added on for Reality as he gets +2 air attack.
Reality looking to take his fourth on the right side, but decides to move his CC to the left side instead. HerO moves out along the right side of the map. Viking production from Reality has ramped up. Zealots in Reality's third forces Reality to pull back, allowing HerO to move in. Some nice storms go down, both armies dwindle in force, but Hero's the only one with an army still standing.

Damn would have liked to see Puma play and win since he's on my FPL team (turn looked really bad in his TvT against Speed so I think Puma would have been able to do it). Oh well still get points for line up and team win

He's gonna all in someone so hard when he's finally unleashed.

to be fair, this wasn't the toughest opponent to 4-0. not taking anything away from EG-TL, they looked really strong today, but they ain't out of the woods yet.
Congrats EG-TL! And am I the only who doesn't care about foreigners? Zenio and Hero are 100% Liquid players, Jaedong is just awesome, and I'm not the biggest EG fan, but I'm sure something can be said about JYP.

Agreed. Proleague is all about consistency end EG-TL will have to deliver that.
I think they're fully capable of it though despite what the naysayers said in previous games. Honestly EG-TL's biggest challenge isn't skill, because in that department they're one of the wealthiest teams here (wealthy in other departments helps). It'll be maintaining this especially when both teams have a high commitment to foreign tournaments.

TL is good enough but I wish they had more people so they could prepare more snipes
Hey guys, the vods on Twitch are showing as being for subscribers only - is this a temporary thing? I don't remember there being any restrictions on the earlier days.
W00t EG-TL. The Foreigner team (filled with all Koreans and ThorZaiN) fighting...! ...Yay?
:D
In all seriousness, nice win. The only foreigners I am comfortable with playing in Proleague are probably Stephano and ThorZaiN anyway - I can't see Huk or any of the other foreigners taking a game.
Either way, tonight's broadcast has confirmed that, thanks to ThorZaiN, EG-TL will get all the fangirls. TFunk will soon also take up a role as the team's offical mascot

It's 5 bucks for the entire season (1 full year). Just pay it.

The promising thing today was not that EG-TL played really well... in fact Hero looked a little shaky today, and JYP and Jaedong didn't have to do much to win. The promising thing was that EG-TL looked really well prepared for their match, with good match and map specific builds. This wasn't readily apparent in the previous matches, and hopefully it means the team is starting to come together.

I`ve picked Jaedong as the "choke of the day", as I do believe hes rather overrated, and ZvZ can swing either way.

Just bought a pass, the hours these are played live are not worth my stinging out on 5 dollars @_@. A surprising turn of events for EGTL. If only it wasn't against the 2nd worst team in the league. It makes the 4-3 loss to CJ all the more frustrating.
Nice result! Should bring them back up into the fighting field for top 3 very soon. Tried to wake up in time to watch it but failed miserably, bad sleeping schedule EGTL vs Woonjing stars next!

Aha, ok, thank you!
HD VODs are all posted on Youtube like a day after.
Only in korean though, which is still pretty nice :D compared to gsl its much better, even the freestream quality is good!

Actually i think they should send out Huk , Thorzain , Stephano , IdrA , hell ... even Incontrol and the others if they happen to be there should prepare for the proleague ; would even be nicer if HuK , Thorzain and others didnt even travel that much and get to play the proleague as their main competition and prepare only for that.
thats the only good thing of having a foreign team in the PL , seeing foreigners play, of course HerO , Taeja and the like have higher chances to take a game of any Korean as they are at the top of the Korean competition atm. but I can see HuK or IdrA taking games every now and then if they prepare well and focus on PL.

They couldn't send HuK out yesterday, he's on vacation. Sadly stephano won't be there either, Homestory Cup this weekend :/
This is great to see. I'd been worried about eg-TL being able to handle the institutional single-map preparation of the kespa teams, but it's a relief that eg-TL's strong individual skill could show through.
See, these are the kind of results that we all expect from EG-TL and I don't think its done here, I know that with a proper line up they can put up a fight and even take down KT and just about any other team they're up against.
Too bad it was too early in the morning to watch live. Gah, still can't believe that PL could make me care about SC2 after more than two years of not giving a shit about this game!

I know a way to watch it for free. Same thing I did in the hybrid proleague, still works to this day. Can't share it here though...
Watching Reality vs. Hero now via VLC. One of the better games of the night. Hate though that one mistake by the Terran is easily capitalized by the Toss death ball.

Well, put thorzain against a non-zerg player on a map were you can most easily spoon your opponent to death and Stephano against protoss and they could be amazing.

It could all be in 3D smell-o-vision and only $4.99 and I still wouldn't buy it. The sound isn't good, the production isn't good, there really haven't been any "ERHMAHGERD!" games thus far, and I haven't been a fan of the casting. TB + Bitter was okay, but I couldn't stand TLO + Adebisi. If I'm going to pay for something, I don't want to have to mute it. That's really what the $5 is for; The english commentary. PL has been free to me for the past decade, it shouldn't change now just because some poor english commentary with poor sound is taking place.
Imagine if Sayle started charging $5 for his restream, people would laugh their ass off at him and go somewhere else.

What a ridiculous thing to say. A decade ago, the only way to see BW games was via sub-240p .rm VODs on broodwar.com. Livestreaming was completely unheard of and many were still saddled with 56k internet. People recorded FPVODs with camtasia and then had to manually encode the several-GB raw video file into something that could be uploaded. The first chance most of us had to even download a proleague VOD was the old TL DC++ hub in 2004ish. In fact, proleague didn't even exist 10 years ago. All you've done is prove that you weren't around back then.

No official PL VODs were ever available outside Korea until that esportstv youtube channel. The ones from the VOD tracker and other places were taken from Korean torrent websites and were of questionable legality to say the least.
Also, "proleague" almost always refers to the joint OGN + MBC operation. It was a whole different beast back when it was in direct competition with MBC's own team league. I suppose you could technically refer to the old OGN-only stuff as "proleague" just as MSLs could technically be referred to as "starleagues," but that's not really the idea.
The point is, you are not being asked to pay for something that's been freely available for a decade in the same form.

It is available on twitch channel if you subscribed to PL for 5 bucks.
Is that for hd streaming/voids, or is it only for se vods
Everything in HD. It's quite a steal, really.
PL has been free to me for the past decade, it shouldn't change now just because some poor english commentary with poor sound is taking place.
Now, since when is TL producing PPV content. This is rather dissapointing to me i must say. Im gonna watch korean vods then.
where did u get ppv from...? free live stream
exactly, for my timezone this means either korean vods or ppv

It doesn't matter if someone can or can't. It's that it just isn't worth it based on production value and commentary. Plus the fact that KeSPA is trying to force you to buy it by blocking all other means of watching it that have been available for the longest time, is just shady. I actually prefer the Korean version, but they blocked it, and apparently aren't allowing any more uploads via ESTV for foreigners. I'm not paying money for a lesser product.
If I'm wrong and they are just late with the uploads, then I'm wrong. But it appears that they aren't uploading any more.

It's not that I can't afford it, it's that I don't see why they have any right to charge for it. This wasn't in the announcement, look to the right of the web page; IGN is rebroadcasting again, are they charging money for unlimited years of content? no. So why should a participating team do so? It just feels like this is geared towards making money instead of improving the community.

You can't afford $5 for 7 months of content? Skip the starbucks tomorrow and spend it on Proleague instead, come on now It's basically free.
It's not that I can't afford it, it's that I don't see why they have any right to charge for it. This wasn't in the announcement, look to the right of the web page; IGN is rebroadcasting again, are they charging money for unlimited years of content? no. So why should a participating team do so? It just feels like this is geared towards making money instead of improving the community.
it is their right to charge 5 dollars for it. it costs people time and money to produce. it is however not your right to recieve it for free. also, basically nobody is making money in this scene. and even if they did, what would be the harm? it would go towards producing better content for us. so dont make excuses just buy it.

maybe they can call kespa and make them play all the matches at 3am kst
Or maybe they could restream the games at a better time, just like IPL, Onemoregame or NASAL do
but there are vods
Which require a subscription to be viewed
so why cant you pay 5 dollars?

Well, the price was set by KeSPA before TL/EG broadcast was announced. So, it is the content of the people who put up the 5$ subscription.
I have to say I have found my interest in watching SC2 decline greatly over the past six months or so, but I have been so friggen excited and stayed up at ungodly hours to watch every single EG/TL match.
nerd chills every match so far, especially being up 2 - 0 in the last match. My interest has been rekindled.

Whatever I've made my opinion clear and will just quit while I'm ahead. It's a shame to see this but shit happens.
last time i checked vlc link still works albeit low quality, korean hd stream is not listed as before (it doesnt work sometimes i noticed)
i avoid english streams and download(pirate) korean vods when they become available, the copyright issue which does not allow korean stream from ogn/kespa and gom is disappointing, very disappointing.
youtube link says "not allowed in your country" but i'm not sure if this is dependent on time or not as some vods work and some vods dont.

Watching live was free too, but the vods before the EsportsTV account was made were all "illegal" and the reason why jon747 was taken down and half of nevake's vods are set to private now. It's pretty much the same, except we now have a way to pay for rights to watch the vods yay!

What annoys me most about this is that TL never announced it. Couldnt you have written it in your big fancy news, that only the first couple of games were for free? Give a reasoning for it? Instead i stumble over a subscription block on twitch. I don`t understand why it was handled that way.

Yeah, such a shame that the businesspeople behind the SC2 scene are actually trying to build a sustainable model rather than catering to people who are too cheap to pay roughly 2 cents per day over the course of 7 months. Proleague is in high demand. They would be idiots and terrible businesspeople to not charge any fee. The fact that it's only 5 dollars for 7 months of HD content is something to be thankful for, not something to whine about.
You say "It costs a minimal amount of money to take KESPA's stream and add audio content to it" - did you consider that TotalBiscuit, MrBitter and Adebisi are not employees of EG/TL/Kespa and they don't work for free? There are something like 168 regular season BO7's that need to be casted, in addition to the playoffs.
You say "I really hope that you're not twelve years old or this conversation is pointless" and yet you're the one who doesn't seem to understand supply and demand, the most basic of all economic principles. There was huge demand for an English Proleague broadcast, and no supply, so EG-TL stepped in. If, as you say, "this is geared towards making money instead of improving the community," the price would have been something like 3-8 times higher than it is. Fewer people would have bought the pass but they would have posted significantly greater profit margins. Frankly, they could have charged $15 and I doubt many people who bought the pass would have blinked. $10 wouldn't have been a problem at all.
Also, just because TL is free to use doesn't mean they're not making money off of users. Ad revenue. Click through rates.
In all honesty, I don't really care that much about the fee they're charging for the HD stream and the VODs. What I actually care about more is the production of the content. If they're getting a naked feed from KESPA (no Korean commentary), why is the sound and other things so messed up? I'd like to be able to hear the in game sounds way more than what I currently hear, the commentators are too loud , and when we're out of a game we can't really hear anything other than the commentators.
I realize this is still new and early for them, but until that stuff gets fixed, I won't be paying for this. I feel like EG-TL should have passed on the streaming of this to a group that has more experience and more dedicated staff to producing content like this (IGN, MLG, NASL, etc.)
Can't watch the vods on twitch if I don't pay and can't watch the vods on esportstv's channel in my country wtf... I watched a thousands of vods of BW from 2002 to 2012 without paying anything, I missed that time sigh...

On December 19 2012 11:12 xuanzue wrote: well before this ppv model, I could send the vod to my friends, and made em closer to the scene
Well unlike BW there's not like there's a shortage of tournaments with VODs that can still be sent around of pro players playing great games.
Not sure why you'd use proleague VODs for sc2 hype, though perhaps it depends on the friends. I usually show semi-interested friends proven amazing games from GSLs, MLGs, TSL, etcs that have a far greater pool of games with amazing moments.
The majority of things are ppv nowdays anyway. Everything is at 'least' optionally ppv or heavily reliant upon an over-use of advertising. That's the world we're living in. E-sports ain't cheap and it's certainly not easily sustainable.
I'm honestly UPSET at KeSPA that they are ONLY charging $5 for the whole Proleague season. I think it shows that they aren't putting enough attention into their English/foreign audience and, by extension, the English stream.
Call me crazy, but to me it seems clear that KeSPA/IEG is only charging $5 for the entire season because they either don't realize how much potential the English/foreign market has, or - and I think this is the more likely scenario - they DO realize how big the English/foreign market is, but they weren't organized enough to be able to capitalize on it.
I'm saying this because they can look to GomTV and the GSL and how it's had a successful track record of providing content to English/foreign viewers for $100-$200 per year with good viewership numbers, whereas for Proleague they're charging about 2% of the cost. Not only that, they told OGN 48 hours before their first Proleague match that they won't be the ones doing their English stream anymore AND they just finalized their English casters (EG-TL) one week AFTER Proleague started. And it's remote casting, too.
Which, in the end, is why YOU should care about what KeSPA charges, even if it's "too low". The less KeSPA charges for their English stream, the less attention they will devote to providing a good English stream viewing experience.
And by 2% of the cost, I mean 5%, lol. I obviously can't do 2 divided by 100 in my head (actually it should be 8%, not 5%, because it's $5 for 7.5 months, which works out to $8 per 12 months)

Or maybe they're not overcharging as they get it set up and have stiff competition from the established GSL casts? They know they have a quality product so why not sell it dirt cheap for a while to maximise the audience? Once they've built a new SC2 fanbase and have a good system running i'm sure the price will go up. Plus KESPA has always been more about domestic brand marketing than anything else. There's no merchandise and they're not really focused on turning a profit in the same way gom is.
Don't really understand why people are crying foul, the vods are posted to ESTV youtube now. $5 for all of proleague isn't that big of a deal. Korean advertisers don't care about foreign eyeballs on their ads - I'll never be a customer of SK Telecom no point in them advertising to me. They're doing an english broadcast and that needs to get paid for somehow, $5 sounds fair to me!
