Also, what are your plans with GSTL? The roster of team members was already not very deep, and with even fewer numbers in Korea right now, what do you plan to do about the new season?

Some questions:
a) Have you decided on full roster to SF yet? If so, reveal please?
b) Was HerO predetermined to be the finisher for this series or did you choose Taeja as your fourth because Genius three killed?
c) I know this is a long shot...but any thoughts on having a team for next GSTL? If so, Sheth or Ret as possibilities for foreigner representation?
Cheers for all the great memories so far in TAC3, hoping more will be created in San Francisco. <3

What was your line ups coming into the game? Were you saving Taeja to purely act as the 4th player? How were you going to deal if they sent MMA? You see, there is this misunderstanding in the scene that an ace player plays last. To blindly play your ace last means you have to have an enormously deep lineup that makes sense for every matchup before you get to your ace. Even in the deepest teams an 'ace' is often strategically played before the last. In this case we're up against a Protoss and we still have our two best players behind. The usage of their skill level comes out the least in PvP as the variance in that matchup is high. So the idea was to play TaeJa as fourth against the Protoss and in case he beat him and then lost to a Zerg (very possible considering we thought Coca would be the guy to watch out for vs TaeJa) we would have HerO behind that. In a way you could say how it played out HerO was our ace, but in truth the word ace is weirdly used.

And how on earth could you not warn ret of two base immortal allin :p I think that with the money involved in team leagues it wouldn't be fair to the players to remove their focus from the individual leagues. The biggest issue with your question is that it is often not a choice. By the time we must confirm our participation in individual tournaments such as for example ASUS ROG, we won't have advanced far in IPLTAC yet. Naturally without being able to predict how we will do we can't deny our players participation in ASUS ROG based on the assumption that we're going to beat all of these teams and make it to the final. We love team leagues but I can't speak of a focus on one or the other because of these reasons. For every IPLTAC round we do scouting on who they can line up, and do a lot of thinking on which of our players plays which matchups. Subsequently our players devote focus to the maps they map pick and the matchups they may play. Our team is pretty small compared to the Korean teams so that leaves you with a lot less options regarding dedicated practice, but we do what we can.
Thank you for the thorough response

How does TaeJa practice (with teammates, on ladder, customs with players from other korean team)? I mean most of his time Most of the time our players practice on ladder. We don't really have a mass player facility to provide the diversity a player needs for consistent improvement. It's very common for Korean pros to ladder a lot as it helps you deal with all sorts of situations. When it comes to being in tournaments where you have time to prepare, TSL, GSL, IPLTAC, there is more matchup specific practice.

Nazgul, do the players have a say when they want to be send out or do you or somebody else decide who the next player is? Also, is it predetermined who will be the 5 players playing in a particular team league match?

Heres a question for you Nazgul - Any chance for TL Mafia in San Fran?
|
taeja said in an interview he just ladders for practice, how true is this or was it just a bad translation?
|
Nazgul can u promise me that you'll never let go TaeJa, even if they offered a transfer sum of 1 million dollars?
|
Is there any chance Liquid partners with other team to play the GSTL? Perhaps MTW, considering Supernova is living with the guys in Korea. Or after OGS disbanded you are not interested in this kind of partnerships?

Taeja is too good for team leagues!
Let's see if he can pull off another reverse kill streak against the likes of Yoda, MVP, Nestea, MC, and Seed. If he does he will go down as one of the strongest Team Liquid players ever.

Who decides strategy and player order on TL, given that there is no formally recognized coach? Also, this is the first time that your whole team will be performing in front of a large crowd at a live event. Are you doing anything specific to make sure that your players will not suffer from perfomance anxiety / stage fright? We listen very carefully to what our players have to say and then I decide on the order together with Bumblebee. I'm not sure how much other coaches listen to their players versus pushing their own thoughts through, but we do a lot of listening to make sure we fully understand the dynamics of our players.
Most of them have performed in front of a large crowd before, but any suggestions are welcome! We'll probably just talk them through the event so they know what to expect.

Was the strategy taeja played vs CoCa something he made up spontaneiously, or did you plan to straight off deny any preparation for Coca, since you expected him to be prepared as a sniper for taeja?

My goal is to win and do so through making players comfortable. It's not the goal to feel comfortable and not be competitive in case that's what you thought. Internally we don't think like that, although I understand why it could feel that way for you.

They only play customs with improvised "practice partners" (like, whoever can help at this point in time, even among other teams) when they can prepare for a big match, typically a GSL game. That's why you see many players thank a very diverse array of practice partners in interviews (people from their own teams, yes, but also outsiders) when they win their GSL match. I think we're very far from the BW model where most practice is done internally.

God damn! Taeja is such a beast, what is his record in TAC?
|
Going into the finals, does it worry you that you have relied so much on Taeja? IM will surely prepare one or even two snipers just for him, and they got some amazing players to do it with.

Obviously Jinro would've been the guy for GSTL... but for this, was it you? Jinro? Hot_bid? I'm mainly asking this because you sent a stream of zergs at Genius... a guy who has amazing PvZ. I feel like our Zergs had a great shot today and lacked a bit of subtlety to finish the job. I believe that watching these games today with more than just an eye for score, you will see that the Zerg play worked out in terms of putting ourselves in a good position to beat Genius.
At the GSTL they had a laptop and were getting the picks through Skype, was pretty awesome to do it that way. I make the final decisions together with Bumblebee.

how come you dont want any more koreans right now? gstl went pretty badly although it was a first time out and iirc taeja was unavailable for atleast 1 match? is it purely a money thing or do you just not want another player right now full stop?
