According to that, if someone seeded in round 1 wins, they get $1100. If someone from round 2 wins, they get $1000.

They have to play less games to win though (or more money per game).

Yep yep, and that's fair. I like it like that. However, the "in other words" summary of the prizes in the OP is half incorrect

These were the focus players I believe so I'm guessing it some "compensation" for them participating in the first 2 days or something.

The focus players (the 4 players that had challenges for the event) got seeded in round 2.

IMO, If anything, the 8 other players should be getting compensation, since they were guinea pigs/practice partners for the first 2 days of the event

can't wait to see Illusion bust out some mech tvp... realistically Naniwa will throw him down and kick him while he's down
still, this is great preparation for all players for MLG--- i just hope it doesn't mess them up psychologically against certain players if they end up being in the same groups as players they lost to this weekend during practice sets

Without the Mothership snipe/Collusi interception Hasu would have lost I think. He played really well, don't get me wrong there, but I do think that he got quite lucky there.

you are both right i guess^^ hasus colossi "control" is pretty sick and he defended very well, he still shouldve lost the game obviously, quite "lucky" with that mothership snipe and the fight position

SaSe's PvT isn't anything to scoff at though. A while ago he was going toe to toe with mkp and forgg on kr ladder. Now lets see if he can overcome his PvZ weakness :<

Lucky?
Hasu is one of the best at screwing with the colossus AI.

Without the Mothership snipe/Collusi interception Hasu would have lost I think. He played really well, don't get me wrong there, but I do think that he got quite lucky there.

Okay fair point with the Mothership. But luck comes to aid those that try hard. ;-)

Indeed. In the end, JYP played risky when he decided to pressure with colossi. Great game, and good play from both sides.

you are both right i guess^^ hasus colossi "control" is pretty sick and he defended very well, he still shouldve lost the game obviously, quite "lucky" with that mothership snipe and the fight position

why lucky with the mothership snip, we didnt see if he saw the ms crossing. i only saw that the watch tower was taken, but not by whom. but yeah jyp should have won the game :p

Nani said in a recent interview that he and Sase have opposite play-styles and that while they talk about stuff they have their own way of doing things.

I hear making a quicker second bunker or repairing it works out pretty nicely. There are tons of games of even four gate pressure being held off easily, stop whining.

lol do you think a good Terran lets a few HT's walk close to his army and feedback his medivacs ? :D

And in a huge engagements its not worth it, because this 1 feedback doesn't compensate for the lost DPS of the archon while 2 HT are morphing.

Assuming we get an all toss semi finals IDK who wins the tournament then, out of the players left I'm not sure who actually has the best PvP and I'm too lazy to look up stats.

Its a mix of tanking and DPS, but they are definitely more important for dps, since chargelots are the real tanks. (bonus damage against bio and splash)

Stim a few mm and kill the HT=no problem...maybe in diamond league you can do this stuff, but even then spending those extra APM on something else would be better and its just way too risky.

He had +2 ship weapons, ergo a 3 upgrade advantage, and let's not forget the only thing worth mentioning about that game, thorzain's very unique positioning abuse that gave him a good amount of kills for free, but in the end didn't matter at all, he also had more than 1 ghost.

I think JYP would be the favourite, but they're all pretty well known for being good at PvP, except maybe Parting, but thats only because he's Korean and naturally gets compared to players like Oz and MC.

rofl ye right lets count +2 ship weapons as a +2 upgrade advantage... pretty sure those +2 vikings really made a difference against naniwa's 1 colossus. thorzain would've won if he spend a few hundred minerals on bunkers, since nani was kinda allin off his 3 bases... or at least he should build a few raxes near his 3rd to make it harder for nani to micro and to create less attacking space for his chargelots.

I think JYP would be the favourite, but they're all pretty well known for being good at PvP, except maybe Parting, but thats only because he's Korean and naturally gets compared to players like Oz and MC.

I'd actually favour Nani in this scenario. I'm not too impressed by JYP's PvP and I admittedly haven't seen a lot of PvP from Parting.

lol do you think a good Terran lets a few HT's walk close to his army and feedback his medivacs ? :D

And in a huge engagements its not worth it, because this 1 feedback doesn't compensate for the lost DPS of the archon while 2 HT are morphing.

Your first point is not really true.. Feedback has 9 range.
Your second point is valid, but I still wonder if a terran without medivac energy is worth it

Stim a few mm and kill the HT=no problem...maybe in diamond league you can do this stuff, but even then spending those extra APM on something else would be better and its just way too risky.

Meh, this is getting too theory crafty. Ofcourse you move them forward in pairs and morph them right after the feedbacks. If he stims a couple of units, you move some stalkers forward.

But whatevs, I guess your right. I concede

The web page is SICK! All those stats. I hope Red Bull goes for a huge tournament next time instead of the LAN-thing. This is a brave concept but it's not attracting nearly as much attention as Lone Star even though the players are a lot more interesting at the Red Bull LAN.

the answer to your question is because archons take too long to morph, battle will be over before they finish. However you will see some protoss have maybe 2 Ht's left unmorphed to feedback medivacs. But this is only before storm finishes researching. Once it's done he'll storm with the energy instead, which is why you rarely see this in matches.

I would say the most notable major tournament wins by foreigners have been Huk's win of HSC3 and MLG Orlando and Stephano's win of IPL3.

Naniwa's 2nd place at MLG Providence is imo on the same level as those wins too, just because of the calibre of players at that event.

We've seen idra, stephano, huk, naniwa, and dimaga with pretty nice tournament wins.

However, we haven't had a foreign Terran win a major live event in well over a year.

Everyone ignores that though

They were the focus players for the event. So far they've all been eliminated so if Ret loses we get an all Protoss, all practice partner, top 4.

Offcourse, the conversation was about terrans, i just forgot to quote the post above mine.
There hasn't been any winning Terran besides Thorzain. Unless we are talking about daily EU cups, then there is some.

Parting had way less than enough to hold that off.

Ret lost 500 energy worth of infestor to just derp 1a. He'll be smacking himself and making 5 different hotkeys for his infestors this game.

He overcommitted on low economy with mass roach/infestor, lost all his infestors without damaging any of Parting's eco and then ran out of steam.

Yeah, PartinG had really good micro and those immortals eat roaches in low numbers. Those infestors were just derp herp throw infected terrans :D

To be fair he was and still would be heavily favored against both players imo so I can see how he can be really disappointed to be 2-0d by both to start off 2012. I wonder how pissed he would have been if he had lost to Destiny

It's SaSe, but Ret beat Parting, too, and Naniwa is just as good as SaSe. Genius and MC is a bit ahead of NA/EU Protosses still, but nowhere near the Code S Terrans.

nah naNiwa is a step ahead of SaSe. though it seems like they share builds.

Why isn't this listed on the ON AIR streams? missed so many good games

I'd say more than a bit. Plus, it's mostly that there are barely any exceptional foreign terrans. The best foreigners are toss and zerg.

I don't get what this even means? Genius and MC aren't anywhere near Code S Terrans but they're Code S protoss, one which was the last semifinalist and another who was ro8? Genius and MC are way ahead every NA/EU protoss, it's been quite a long time since any foreigner has beat MC outside of PvP and hard to say about Genius but he did come second only to DRG last GSL. Both are far above any NA/EU protoss, it might look similar only because those protoss copy their builds and execute them against lesser opponents than Code S players. The best XvPer in the foreign scene is Stephano and MC has beaten him in every encounter.

Good advice for Ret, seeing as he's Dutch, and bicycle theft is a huge issue over there.

Same in Copenhagen.. I've been through 3 bicycles in 3 years..

I can't imagine Ret on a bicycle though

Tune in to see SaSe getting warp gate on 3 bases. Does anyone know how he managed to get that build up or was it just a build which totally depends on it not getting scouted?

what a sick build on this map. pre 7 minute third and he got it up completely uncontested thanks to the 2 gate zealot pressure. Eager to analyze and try this build out.

Ret: 5 fast hatcheries and 11 minute hive

Okay. I'm stumped. But enthralled :D

The only reason why Sase broke through that, was because of lack of detection from Ret, Sase sniped the Overseer - Pretty big misread from wheat and day..

congrats to ret, he played super solid this whole weekend.

but it looked like sase was giving those builds a competitive test-run before columbus, seeing as only $400 was on the line. i don't think the series would have been 3-0 if he were playing a bit more standard.

I really enjoyed watching this over the weekend!

The format was fun and I really liked that the atmosphere had some of the informality of HSC but still the adrenaline of a stacked tournament.

and ofc Ret Fighting!

I think it's the 'new' APM, e.g. commands per minute. I checked the Cloud Kingdom game of Ret vs SaSe (25min) and its 257/240 APM (Ret/SaSe) vs 176/128 EPM. So those 'AVG APM' stats seem to be based on EPM.

Pretty cool stats overview nevertheless by Red Bull, well done. This one.

Ret played phenomenally, and other players played very well, but couldn't keep up.

He earned his wins; most of the time, he won the games, rather than his opponents throwing them away.

this, zvp is so heavily z favored, not because of any update, just because the metagame has evolved. Ret gong 5-0 his last 5 games vs toss? Ret is good but he CRUSHED every toss every game, wasn't even close ever
