terrible timing for this..
Literally all 3 qualifiers ran during 1 week.. the 1 week I will be in germany playing in HSC4 ...
SPREAD OUT YOUR QUALIFIERS THAT IS LITERALLY THE POINT OF HAVING MULTIPLE QUALS
this is incontrol on my brother's account btw lol
|
With it being the holidays, its tough to spread out qualifiers while at the same time finishing the championship bracket on the 12th deadline.
|
tough sure. Impossible, no.
3 quals in 1 week's time is going to hurt your tourney and I am here to say PLEASE RECOGNIZE THAT as these tourneys are awesome and deserve MORE recognition than a thread opened 1 week ago with 0 responses and most of the top NA talent not playing.

Its going to hurt only because of HSC, but at the same time only 4 Americans are attending HSC which leaves plenty of talent left to compete in the tournament. Violet got an invite so even with HSC he will still be playing the championship bracket. I definitely get what you are saying, but I don't agree with extent of damage you think HSC is going to cause.

|
Is Violet permanently living in the states? Seems like he's been getting lots of invites or competing in a lot of American events.
|
Awesome to see Illusion invited, seen some awesome plays out of him. Will be interesting to see how he goes.

Hmm okay neat.
These qualifiers seem to have a better set of players already than the Kiev qualifiers as a whole. We've got Agh, DarkCell, Everize and Zelniq in this qualifier and Violet, Slush, Illusion and KR already invited. The 3 players that qualify should represent a top skill level of NA. Hopefully some more Quantic, Gosu, RGN, EG and Vile guys sign up.
|
Looks like I'm going to be heading back to Brazil for Carnaval sooner than I expected. I know I wont qualify, but I do have family in SP so why not be there for something so epic for South American E-Sports.
|
So I can't join if I'm from australia? that sucks
|
Don't worry, there is an SEA qualifier for this event as well. Stay tuned for the announcement for it.

Is there a player list?

Sick, Demuslim, qxc and Vibe signed up!
Personally rooting for OwMyGroin though
Edit: Might want to put it on the calendar if you haven't submitted already. It starts in 6 hours right?
|
Yea it does, it will be on the calendar.

times listed on the site are weird

They look fine to me, do you have your esl website clock set to eastern time? You can check at the very top at the site ( click the clock icon )

You can be too sick to travel and participate in a three day tourney and still play in one that takes a couple hours.

i thought demuslim is in europe again right now ?_?

so checkin in 18 mins, start at 1 hr 18 mins?

From the final qualifier. This is a qualifier for the final qualifier, in which the top 4 qualify.
So Demuslim/Agh RSM/TriMaster DarkCell/qxc (Drewbie/Zelniq)/(Axslav/Suppy)

Why on earth is DeMuslim in the NA qualifier? He's European no matter how you cut it lol.

He's living in the states. Just like how Violet got invited.
For IEM, I'm pretty sure it only depends on your current place of residence.

This is correct. And for all wondering Demuslim is in the US right now at team house. he is not traveling anywhere because he has injured his back.
|
Axslav :D sucks he'll be playing demuslim if he beats drewbie though
|
Axslav's play looks really refined. I havent watched him in a few weeks and I think its pretty noticeable.
|
^oh yeh
So someone correct me if Im wrong, but is Demuslim, Qxc, Tri and the winner of Axslav vs Drewbie going to be the 4 seeds?
|

Doesn't matter, they would have both qualified for the qualifier by that point.
Right now Demuslim, QXC, Trimaster are qualified. Winner of Ax/Drew also qualify.
|
^ Ah cool. Lol i thought Tri was Trimaster :D
|
Demuslim why so cheesy? :D

How were invites determined? Nothing against the invited players, just curious on what results these were based on.

Seed5: DeMusliM Seed 6: qxc Seed 7: Axslav Seed 8: TriMaster
These are the 4 qualified players from this cup to the championship brackets! Great games!

Ah I forgot about the 3rd place match, was the Axslav/Tri series any good?

Trimaster went to sleep so it was not played.

(each qual has some conflict for me ><)
j/k of course

unfortunately, there is no cure...
a little bit of that he canceled HSC because he was sick and now plays other cups, but whatever. gratz to those who made it!

Begin registering for the next cups coming up this Saturday and Sunday!

Is the 3rd qualifier really starting at 2:00am (EST) in the morning?
|
No, the time was bugged, it begins at 8:00 pm like the other cups, thx for pointing it out.
|
This is tonight, correct?
|
|
wow, ret plays qualifier #2 from takes place i assume?
its 2 am atm and the tour starts! Oo
|
I'm guessing 1) Ret, if he plays. If not, Zelniq 2) State 3) Vibe 4) Drewbie
|
When did Ret move to North America?
|
Drewbie out first round Oo
|
1) Mass 2) Agh 3) TheOgnis 4) JimRising/SyntheticRhythm
Haven't heard of either of the last two, but oh well. In no order btw
Edit on matchups

Weird prediction in zelniq. I always root for him but I've never seen him put up any result at all which makes me sad, and poor ret

Not sure what happend to Ret, I guess ZvZ is just like that, and does't help he was playing at like 2 am in the morning.

fun event very well run, pharside

Wait, Ret is at homestory cup but playing in this?
I thought IEM rules were that you have to live in the area of the qualifier -- Ret lives / is in Europe at the moment.

Ret is actually living at USA right now with his GF, was only in europe for HSC, but is coming back to U.S, thats why he was allowed to play.

It's okay Xeris, Ret got second, he won't be playing KawaiiRice lol
edit: provided the bracket ends up with the seeds as they are

Yea bracket seeding will match the seeds listed.

will this be streamed tomorrow?

Also, I sincerely doubt that a bo3 will take 30 minutes...
|
This schedule looks really weird -- there are 4 winner bracket rounds, and yet this 2 day schedule only lists 3 (it also says that the Round 2 is winner bracket semis even though it isn't). Also scheduling 30 minutes for 1 round is really unrealistic, I don't think any tournament does this. Minimum of 1 hour per round is standard (you need to account for matches not starting exactly on time, games going longer than expected, etc).
|
Woops, read this as IEM Seattle! Too bad... (cough cough wink)

The schedule is not meant to be air tight as matches will just be covered as we go. The reason why you see semi finals and finals listed early is because you are not taking into account that its top 2 from winner bracket and top 1 from loser bracket that qualify for Sao Paulo. We do not finish the entire tournament bracket because it is completely unnecessary.
|
I lost 0-2 to suppy and I forfeit my loser bracket games.

Just because someone is invited doesn't mean things won't come up/complications won't happen. No need to be all upset about it :-/ Obviously KR should have probably given his spot away when he found out he was going to homestory/was getting back if he thought he wouldn't have enough time though.

Your speaking like you know the situation completely. He/ His manager requested an invite to the tournament BECAUSE of homestory cup, and it wasn't like it was an unforeseen complication. A little weird someone doesn't know their school schedule, so I think I have some rights to be a little annoyed.

School schedule also change/he could have asked for an invite before he had that knowledge. I still think you over reacted saying he "tossed it" which, to me atleast, says that you think he THREW his match against suppy and then forfieted because he didn't care(which I don't think KR would do). Maybe I am just reading to much into how you phrased it but that was my inital reaction to it.
|
He just got back from HomeStory -- and he has class until 5:30 tomorrow. So we thought that to try to work around it we'd see if Suppy could play last night (which he could), which would allow him to get back home relatively in time for his 2nd round game.
However, he was way too tired to play and he lost. He didn't quit out, he tried to play under his circumstances.

is this being streamed live?? where can i watch it i can't seem to find it?

Important Update We are proud to announce that it is no longer top 3 players from championship bracket that will be attending Sao Paulo, but instead Top 4 now!
Stay tuned for the finals on Thursday 8:00 pm EST!

What happened to Drewbie in the qualifiers? He won his two matches on the 4th (one was a walkover, I believe?) but then didn't seem to have played after that, and doesn't show up in the championship bracket?
Watching his stream last night, he lost a match to Everize. Was that a tournament game, or just a coincidence of them meeting on the ladder?
|
I don't know what he was playing last night but it wasn't for IEM. he tried to qualify once but failed to. He then also realized he couldn't go to sao paulo if he qualified, so he didn't try again.

So 2 from lower and 2 from upper now?

Why is this the case? Who did lose his spot?

He seemed to be just laddering on his stream last night. Just a coincidence that me ran into him, I guess.
Ok, maybe he was part way through the qualifiers and dropped out when he found out he couldn't go? Axslav and qxc both had walkovers after his last win.
I wonder why he couldn't go, was it timing or visa problems? Would a pro-gamer going down for a tournament be considered 'work'? Brazil is notoriously hard to get work visa's for, particularly Canadians - some friction between our governments, I believe. I was once turned back AT THE AIRPORT in Sao Paulo, i.e. after having flown down.

Where does the extra spot come from?
|
I think the extra spot comes from Asia afaik
|
Another Chinese player cannot attend so the extra spot goes to this tournament?!?!?!?
|
It was originally going to be 4 Koreans, but now its down to 3. The asia spot is still up, but it could change if they can't send anyone. Most likely another European will get a shot.
|
Be sure to tune in tonight to see which 4 players will qualify for Sao Paulo!

North America was supposed to get 4 slots all along (3 was a mistake which we later corrected). In Intel Extreme Masters the host continent receives 50% of the slots. For several reasons we see both Americas as one region so 4 slots went to SA and 4 went to NA.
|
Go go Demuslim! UK hwaiting, Violet will be a tough opponent though.

Ah ok, so the 4 korean invite was a typo on the website. I think this happened because NYC was was 4 korean invites.

The qualifier just startet on ESL.TV with Bitterdam. First game DeMusliM vs. viOLet.
|
guess Demu is now german?
|
Demuslim < > Violet coming up! Game 1 on Dual Sight
Haven´t seen games of Demuslim in a long time, hope he can qualify!
On January 13 2012 10:20 amazingoopah wrote:guess Demu is now german? Rotti just explained He lived in Germany and participated in the German ESL Series, so his ESL account has the German flag. Or something like that...

His german flag is stuck like that becuase he became ESL Trusted in Germany, and once you do that you cannot change your flag without a high Core Admin changing it.
|
Auch, looked so good for a short period...
+ Show Spoiler [Results Demuslim - Violet] +
By the way, a bit sad that ESL don´t have a overlay. So often I tune in a match and have to wait till they talk about the standing. There are very nice overlays with place for Map/Bo?/Event. Some don´t even cover the supply count in the middle.
And in Game 3 the Player colours are Demuslim red - Violet yellow but since they switched to blue/red in game, Demuslim is blue and Violet red. Well I guess that sound a bit more critic that it´s meant to be ^^

wow idra gg timing lol...O_O

Also Mr.Bitter & Rotterdamn you two make a great casting duo
|
Grats to Violet and qxc so far. qxc gets his second IEM event in a row.
|
MrBitter is looking kind of tired... :D

Am I right in my assumption that they wont play till the bracket is finished, but rather play till the 4 players qualified?

Probably.
Illusion forcing out some Demuslim rage.

Hmm, a bit of Idra rubbing off on Demuslim.

Ah good old smack talk really spices up the games.
|
Demuslim seems frustrated
|
Demuslim needs to focus, he's getting embarrassed right now.
|
Oh crap, I refreshed the stream and got an error (code 005). Great timing.
Edit: Closing and re-opening chrome worked. ^_^
Congratulation to Illusion. Very impressive. Demu' didn't give me an answer to why so many insists on mentioning him when the subject top foreigner/EU terrans comes up.
|
Looks like Demu got fed up with that game lol
|
Illusion is actually pretty darn good.

Illusion too sick, I love Demuslim too but Illusion is my favorite.
He's gonna tear up Sao Paolo!
|
|
Wow, what an impressive showing by Illusion. Really starting to become a fan of his.
|
Ret kinda choked against Axslav. Pure roach hydra.
|
Immortal good unit. That was sick.
|
lol this pvz is a slug match. I bet ret is so pissed.
|
Too many mistakes from Axslav, letting those runbys happen.
|
So many Zergs so far. 7/12 players.
|
Illusion getting some much deserved attention :D
|

Any VOD of the stream? I'd love to watch some of the games ^^

When are the Korean qualifiers?
|
On January 29 2012 01:23 Chriscras wrote: When are the Korean qualifiers?
I don't think there will be any. IEM usually invites players from South Korea due to scheduling difficulties with GSL. Also, there have been doubts on whether enough Koreans want to come because of the long and expansive flights.
